General News

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,… You are serving the Lord Christ.  Colossians 3:23, 24b

Evidence of our working for the Lord will come to you in an envelope today.  Yes, the report cards are arriving for your perusal this evening!   We pray that these reports stimulate conversation as we seek to use and develop our talents to the praise and glory of God. We hope to have interviews on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. A schedule should have made its way to you. If you have not received a copy please contact the office.

We enjoyed a wonderful soup and bun day on Wednesday afternoon. It was a warm welcome to some cooler weather. A special thank you go to all who did the organizing and cooking for this event.

On Tuesday Mrs. Visser will celebrate her birthday.  I’m sure she will do it in style with the kindergarten class.  We wish you God’s blessings in the coming year.

On the staff front, we have some news to share with you.   Miss B has shared with us that her medical leave has been extended by her doctors. Mrs. VanBrederode has agreed to carry on in the grade 3b classroom during this absence.  We pray that God will continue to surround Miss B. in her recovery. We also think about Mrs. Poort whose husband will undergo surgery to remove cancer.  This surgery is scheduled to take place on Friday, February 10th. We give thanks for the report that the cancer is localized and can be removed through surgery. We pray that God will guide the hands of the doctors and that there may be a positive outcome.

I believe that is all for this week.  May God continue to bless and strengthen us in the upcoming week. JVI

Grade 2 has wrapped up our Bible unit concerning Christ’s death, resurrection, and ascension. After completing the unit, we will be turning our attention to Characters in Church History for the next month or so. The first character we will study is John Chrysostom.

Both classes are down to their last box of Kleenex. If you could please send in another box, we’d all appreciate it immensely!

Grade 2B looks forward to beginning their studies of life in the warm climate country of Zimbabwe. Grade 2A will also continue with this unit; learning about the animals that live in the African savanna.

In the next week or so, please keep an eye out for a class list coming home so that students who wish to send Valentine’s cards can be sure to include everyone. Have a blessed weekend! BV/RG

Grade 3

We had a short, but busy week in grade 3. We are continuing with the Church Life stories; focusing on sorrows and troubles. Science keeps us busy learning about positive and negative charges. We will have a spelling review next week. Please let your child practise the words every day. A wonderful thank you goes out to the moms and Ladies’ Auxiliary for the delicious soup treat this past Wednesday. Have a restful weekend and blessed Sunday.

Both classes are enjoying reading “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe” so far! We also get to have PE together with both classes for our gymnastics unit, and the students are excitedly thinking ahead to what they are going to do in their routines. Grade 6

Grade 6 started our new unit in Church History this week about Islam. We begin with the life of Mohammed and we will be moving into a summary of the Islamic religion. Grade 7

Today the Semester One reports were sent home. Understanding that God has blessed each of us with talents and abilities, may there be fruitful and productive discussions with your Grade Seven child. The Science Fair continues to have our focus as we complete our paragraph write ups and move on to designing and decorating our tri-fold boards. We were introduced to the particle theory this past week in Science and we will continue examining warming and cooling. In geography we will learn about climate change and our response to it. To help us understand the matter, we’ll listen to Dr. Calvin Beisner, the founder and national spokesman of the Cornwall Alliance for the Stewardship of Creation. We will continue with the reign of King David in Bible class and learn how, “saints may fall into serious sins”. Enjoy your weekend.

Grade 8

This upcoming week we will have likely our final dedicated class time to work on Science Fair projects. Students have at this point received at minimum 6 hours of work time at school. Please check in with your student to see how the projects are going. In math, we are starting on simplifying algebraic expressions and solving inequalities. We are well into our poetry unit for Literature, and students will be introduced to how to construct a thesis for a classic 5 paragraph essay (hamburger style). In geography, we are looking at quality of life indicators from a world lens and a christian lens. We look forward to seeing many of you for parent teacher conferences next week. (MJ, RT, AL)
