General News

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,… You are serving the Lord Christ.  Colossians 3:23, 24b

Working heartily for the Lord means that our eyes are directed upward and not inward. We are called to look to God as he calls us to work within his Kingdom.  As staff and students, we constantly realize that we work for a God who cares for us.  He nurtures and leads us.  It is humbling as a staff member to recognize that God uses us, broken vessels, to educate His children.  As parents, we are blessed with this task.  Humbling as it is, we know that we do it under His care and He will give us the strength and wisdom for the task.  Keep sharing these treasures with your families!

With the March Break already well in the rearview mirror, we embrace this last stretch of the school year.   We are already enjoying more springlike weather and look forward to God’s faithfulness in the changing seasons.  Spring can be such an exciting time.

The school is busy with a number of activities.  The Beauty and the Beast production is well underway and we are starting to see that planning is heading toward ticket sales and final production arrangements.  For your information the students will be part of the audience for the dress rehearsal which is scheduled for April 19th at 12:30.  They will be allowed to have a first glimpse of the hard work that so many have put into this production.  We pray for strength for the production crew as they work hard toward the production goal!

The basketball teams are out today playing at the annual Basketball Tournament hosted by Guido.   I’m sure you will hear more results in a later edition of this publication. I would like to take the time to thank Mr. Joosse and Mrs. K. Kelly for their work in coaching the men’s and women’s basketball teams.

I would also like to remind everyone about the Community Care Spring Food Drive.  Barrels have been placed throughout the school and are open to donations of non-perishable items. This food drive is running until April 6th at which point they will be brought to West Lincoln Community Care.

Here is a reminder that should you want to see a mid-semester progress report you will need to request them from through the office.  The deadline for this request is April 6th.

Wednesday will be ‘Dress Like a Teacher Day’. We look forward to seeing how the students are dressed, as the teachers will be dressed like students for the day!

I believe that is all.  We wish you a blessed week. JVI

Classroom News

Kindergarten

It felt good to be back in the classroom and back in the swing of routines and expectations. The students were so eager to share their stories of what they did over the March Break with their teachers and fellow classmates. We can look back over the March Break with much thankfulness for the break as well as God’s provision over us through this time off. We are coming to the end of learning all of the sounds in the alphabet. Parents, please take some time to complete the worksheets that come home addressed to the family.  This will help reinforce the concepts taught here at school.  We learned all about the teen numbers this week and will continue to learn these numbers. Ask us about the chain/loop activity that we did. You can also see a picture of this on the Google Classroom. Have a great weekend everyone.

Grade 1

We welcomed spring earlier this week and have enjoyed some very nice spring like days. It is still very wet out on the playground here at school. We are asking that you send a change of clothes, especially socks, in case of any falls in the water and mud.

Our class trip is coming up this coming Friday morning. We are looking forward to our time at the sugar bush. Please dress your child in appropriate clothes for this too. Wearing rubber boots is highly recommended again, due to mud, rain and melting snow.

The two classes are working to get in sync with our texts for memory work. We had to make one only a week long in order to get back on track.

That said here is what we will be practicing next week:

Memory Work: Hymn 24:3; Isaiah 53:6 (for Friday)

Spelling Words: run, tell, us, went, why

Have a wonderful weekend. KK, EVG

Grade 2

After enjoying a relaxing and fun filled March break, Grade 2 is happy to be back at school! In our Language Arts classes, we began reading Nate the Great. We’ll be busy with this mystery novel for the next couple of weeks. The students are greatly anticipating our Detective Day on April 5. (They’re already thinking about what they have at home for dressing up like a detective!) In our Science class, we’ve begun a new unit on “Movement and Simple Machines”. Ask your child to explain the difference between potential and kinetic energy! Please check your child’s backpack for extra socks. Extra pants would be a great idea too since we sometimes have mishaps with slipping in the mud.

Have a wonderful weekend! BV/RG

Grade 3

The children had lots of stories to tell about the March Break, yet it is also good to be back again. We pray for strength as we take up our task working heartily for the Lord the remainder of this school year. The children are enjoying the stories about Rev. Hendrik de Cock in Church History. How the people hungered for true gospel preaching. We will finish this unit with a test in the coming week. The antics of Mr. Popper and Captain Cook keep us entertained in reading class. We are nearing the end of our financial literacy unit and will turn to our math book once again. Keep practising the times table facts, boys and girls!! You need to know them by heart. Remember to bring food items for the Spring Community Care Food Drive!!  We continue to pray for Harper and her family as they mourn the passing of her grandpa.  Have a wonderful weekend and blessed Sunday.

Memory work: Hy. 37:1,2   Text: Ex. 20: 12-17

Spelling words: question, that’s, threw, through,

Thursday: Library day

Friday: Mission $

Grade 4

“Sing praise to our God…” As we prepare for our school concert, these words have been repeated many times. How beautiful! In Bible, we have started looking at God’s faithfulness to the kings of Judah as He preserved the line of David. Life Systems: Habitats and Communities will be our next unit in Science, and we look forward to exploring God’s creation in this subject.

Wednesday: Unplugged Coding Activity (4A)

Friday: Spelling Test; Library books; 4A Math Test: prime, composite, and multi-digit multiplication

Memory Work: Hymn 35: 4; Daniel 2: 20 – 22

Spelling Words: faced, crash, city, picture, mice, rocket, space, poem, ice, cricket, adventure, police, club, o’clock

Grade 5

It was good to be back together again after a week away from school to rest and recharge. Both classes are working on their dioramas for The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, and the students are very excited to work on them every day! Grade 5B finished a chapter on multiplying and dividing decimals in Math this week, and will be starting a chapter on fractions and integers next week, and 5A will be following close behind. Grade 5A will be having a Social Studies quest on Tuesday on lessons 1-4 of our unit on Ancient Egypt, and 5B will be having a quest on Thursday on lessons 5-7.

Devotions for next week are as follows:

5A – M. Keziah, Tu. Macen, W. Michael, Th. Ryan, F. Sawyer

5B – M. Holden, Tu. Seth, W. Colton, Th. Azlynne, F. Quinten

Grade 6

It was good to get back to our routines after an enjoyable break. The students were busy with changing fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions this week. The challenging part is to also put the fraction into lowest terms. Recess has involved a lot of running this week. Intramurals are still happening and enjoyed. Thanks to the organizers. We look forward to an outing next Friday to a museum in St. Catharines relating to the Underground Railway. No volunteers are needed for this and please remember to bring a lunch with no microwavable foods. Have a blessed weekend. TB/CVA

Grade 7

Students have been given their choice of a battle from the War of 1812 to study; ask your child what battle they chose. We were introduced to documentaries and your child will find and view a suitable one in connection with their I.S. topic. Ulrich Zwingli has become a Reformer within the canton of Zurich; what will the Roman Catholic cantons of the Confederation think? In Science we conducted an activity connected with evaporation and perspiration, “Quick Cool Down”. Enjoy your weekend.

Grade 8

We are already finished with the first week back! In math, we will be working on geometry and coding. We have recently begun our novel study for Shattered by Eric Walters. Students will have some ongoing questions/assignments to do. We have also started on our second 5 paragraph essay which will be due in another week and a half. After our Reformation Test, we will begin part 3 of the Ministry of Christ, which focuses on the last week of Christ’s life. Today is the Basketball Tournament, all the best to our peers in their competition! Have a blessed weekend! Cheers, Mrs. Ludwig. Mrs. Tesfaye, & Mr. J
