General News

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,… You are serving the Lord Christ.  Colossians 3:23, 24b

We thank Rev. Wynia for leading us in an Easter Assembly.  The message of bringing us from darkness to light was a beautiful reminder of the work that Christ has done.  He saved us from darkness and brought us into light.  We had a good reminder to use our talents to give thanks to Him.  We do this all as we “work heartily” for the LORD.

We thank the Ladies Auxiliary for the wonderful pancake lunch that was provided.  I was introduced to the JCCS non-patented, cutlery-saving, good ol’ “rip and dip”.   If you haven’t heard about it, ask your children, it’s a thing!  I’m sure that years from now we will be able to say that this all started here!

Ms. Amanda Black from McNally House came and joined us for an introduction to the McNally House walk that we do, entitled “Hike for Hospice”.  We learned how they care for people looking at the end of life and how they do it with dignity and respect.  We appreciate that life is a gift of God and we should be cherished.   Please look at ways to help your children support this cause.

We have reached the final week of the Community Care Food Drive.  Please continue to bring your non-perishable donation to school to help us fill the barrels as we help take care of those in need.

We wish you God’s blessing as we celebrate the Easter Message this weekend!

Kindergarten

Something amazing happened in kindergarten this week: all 39 students were in attendance on Wednesday! This hasn’t happened for the entire year. We made sure to celebrate and even were able to enjoy a pancake lunch. A special thank you goes out to the Ladies Auxiliary for preparing this lunch for us and serving us pancakes along with chocolate milk. In Language Arts we have finished learning the letters of the alphabet and are now ready to start reading more in-depth books while developing our story writing skills. We have started a new unit in Science and it has become a highlight of the day. We also spent time this week learning and remembering what Good Friday/Easter Sunday mean for us as God’s children. How thankful we are to have a Saviour that loved us so much that He was willing to die on the cross for us. Enjoy your long weekend with family and friends as we mark this special moment in the Christian calendar. SV/JB

Grade 1

It’s had to believe in many ways that it is already April. A big thank you to the Ladies Auxiliary for making us a yummy pancake lunch on Wednesday.  With a short week and some extra things happening we’ve had to change around our schedules a bit. That said, we are looking forward to the Hike for Hospice that we were introduced to this week. More information will be coming home soon, with the walk taking place D.V May 5. We’ve been able to continue with our math units and are currently learning about fractions. In Bible, we are hearing about the kings of the divided kingdoms of Israel and Judah, again we are reminded that here to God is carrying out his plan for Salvation and the promise to send the King of kings to reign over us all.

Next week is another short week, we still plan to have spelling words and Memory Work.

Memory Work: Psalm 140:4; Text: Rev. 7:17 (for Friday)

May you have a blessed Easter weekend as we remember the death and resurrection of our Lord and Saviour. KK/EVG

Grade 2

We had a great week in Grade 2! Our highlight was detective day on Wednesday! The students enjoyed dressing up and participating in some fun activities. We got to guess what was in some scented balloons, we listened to clues throughout the day for our mystery guests, and of course ate a delicious pancake lunch! Detective Nate the Great loves pancakes! We’ll keep it nice and short this week, we hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable Easter weekend. RG/BV

Grade 3

We enjoyed a delicious pancake lunch this past Wednesday. Thank you, Ladies’ Auxiliary, for the yummy treat.  On that same day we had a McNally House assembly where Ms. Amanda Black explained the purpose of this home and how we can participate in gathering funds for this worthy cause. Have fun collecting money, everyone! On Thursday, Rev. Wynia came to school to speak about the Lord Jesus Christ and His saving work. Thank you, Reverend. In Bible History, we turned our attention to the Israelites encamped around Mt. Sinai where they could hear the voice of the LORD; how awesome. We continue to read about Captain Cook, Greta and….? Ask your child about the fun novel. In Math we have turned back to multiplication. Wishing you a wonderful, long weekend. May we all stand in awe of God’s greatest gift, His Son Jesus Christ, who came to take away the punishment we deserve. Hallelujah, praise be the Son, for His redeeming work is done!

We hope that you have a restful weekend as we remember and celebrate the sacrifice and resurrection of our Saviour Jesus Christ. How wonderful it is to discuss these events in our Christian school! In science class, both classes are starting to observe which habitats are best for different organisms: where mould grows best (on dry, moist, or wet bread) or what fruit flies would like best (fruit or vegetables, wet or dry). We are enjoying discovering the complexities of God’s creation! Have a great weekend, KO & MVA

Grade 5

Thank you to the Ladies’ Auxiliary for the delicious pancake lunch on Wednesday! Our dioramas have been (very nearly) completed, and the students did a great job with them! We are hoping to be able to present them to each other’s classes and see the fruit of the hard work that was put into making them. They will be displayed in the hallway for others to enjoy for a little while, and then they will be sent home. Grade 5A has begun the next theme in World of Literature already (Amazing Things in God’s Creation), and 5B will be starting with that next week. Our Bible unit coincides nicely with Easter weekend, as we have just covered Jesus’ death and will be talking about His resurrection on Tuesday. We have had some good discussions as we reflected on how amazing it is that Jesus was willing to sacrifice Himself for us as sinners!

Devotions for next week are as follows:

5A – Tu. Camryn, W. Cooper, Th. Eliza, F. Hannah

5B – Tu. Lauren, W. Arli, Th. John, F. Zachary

Have a blessed weekend as we commemorate the death and resurrection of our beloved Saviour! RK/KV

Grade 6

Grade 6 continues to roll along the final stretch of the school year. The students have presented the disease that they researched, and overall they went quite well. We will move on to looking at our next Science unit, “Matter”, next week. We will also begin our next novel study starting next week where we will be studying “Lost in the Barrens”. The Pentecost/Ascension Day concert songs continue as well as we quickly come closer to the concert date. Have a great extra long weekend! TB/CVA

Grade 7

This past week we learned about heat capacity and changes of state in Science; next we’ll learn more about the particle theory and phase changes. We are nearing the end of the written component for our War of 1812 battle study; next will be the visual component. We will learn how Ulrich Zwingli lost his life fighting against Roman Catholic cantons and soon make the transition back to Bible History. Coding will continue in Math next week with conditionals and abstractions. Enjoy your long weekend.

Grade 8

Our Bible unit has coincided very well with Easter and we have been busy studying the week leading up to Jesus’ crucifixion. In History we have finished our presentations on the. North-West Mounted Police and now turn our attention to the lives of prairie homesteaders across the West. In LA we continue our novel study, Shattered and our engaging with new concepts such as PTSD and genocide and homelessness. A good opportunity for good conversation with your Gr. 8 child I’m sure. Have a blessed long weekend! Cheers, Mr. J, RT, AL
