Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,… You are serving the Lord Christ.  Colossians 3:23, 24b

We have enjoyed a wonderful sunny and warm week at school. Students could enjoy the fields again as they have dried up and turned wonderfully green. We give thanks to our creator for his blessings in this as well.

The chess team enjoyed a day at Maranatha Christian School where they could challenge all of the other school champions in some games of chess.   We congratulate Nate on placing 4th, Logan 21st, and Jack 22nd out of the thirty-six competitors. Our school placed 5th out of the 12 schools that competed.   Congratulations gentlemen!

Kindergarten

We certainly enjoyed the beautiful weather that God so graciously granted us this week after many days of cloudy, rainy days. Praise God for the blessing of the changing of seasons! We continue to work hard on learning the teen numbers. One of the ways that we are learning these numbers is by playing Go Fish! The students have loved learning how to play this game! Please continue to play this game with your child at home as well as other games like Sorry! or Uno!. Next week the students will be introduced to the concept of subtraction! We have finally learned the last letter of the alphabet and the students are eager to begin using their skills to read more complex stories! This is one of my favourite times of the school year! Here’s a look at next week’s schedule:

Monday – SH: Keaton

Tuesday – SH: Magnolia

Wednesday – Combined day, library day

Thursday – SH: Mckenna

Friday – SH: Blake F

Have a great weekend. JB/SV

Grade 1

What a warm week! Students and teachers alike took advantage of the warmer weather this week and spent some extra time outside. We have almost finished our third unit in CKLA and students are getting more fluent in their reading. We are learning about fractions in math and learning how to split things equally in half, thirds, and fourths. This can be a tricky concept to learn so encourage your children to practice at home. The McNally walk will take place on May 5th and the students had their pledge forms sent home with them. If you need a new one, please contact your child’s classroom teacher. As the weeks approach the Ascension Day concert, grade 1 will not be learning anymore Bible texts but more diligently practicing the concert songs in the classroom.

Memory work: Psalm 99:1

Spelling words: zero, one, two, three, four, five

Grade 2

Good afternoon on such a beautiful day! It certainly feels like we’ve jumped straight into summer this week! We’re thankful for the sunshine and the warmth! This week, Grade 2 has been busy in our Science unit learning about Simple Machines and Movement. This week we focused on the screw as a simple machine. It amazed the students to see that this design is used in screwing the lids of their water bottles and in securing light bulbs into fixtures as well. After this, the students were taught about the pulley and it’s purposes. Next week we will focus on the impacts that simple machines have on our lives.

In our Language Arts classes, we learned about media and how we are to think critically about the media in our lives. The students had many questions about using the internet and were eager to share about the rules in their homes regarding screens and websites. Next week we will turn our studies back to our core Language program. That’s all for this week! Have a blessed weekend! BV/RG

Grade 3

Hello and welcome back, readers. Grade 3 has been learning more about holy God and the renewing of the covenant, as well as His tent of meeting, the tabernacle. In Math we are learning about multiplying with regrouping. The children are certainly challenged working with this new concept. Mr. Popper’s Penguins are quite the performers. Ask your child how it is going with this novel. In Art, Miss B. and grade 3A are working on their Barbara Reid modeling clay art, and grade 3B finished their repeated pattern art work. The grade 3B students were just introduced to the Barbara Reid art this past Thursday. Wishing you a restful weekend and blessed Sunday.

Thursday’s beautiful weather gave the Grade 5 classes an opportunity to spend Phys. Ed. class outside. We used this time to play a game of Capture the Flag, which was enjoyed by all the students! We continue to study the Bible lessons about Jesus’ resurrection and His appearance to various people. 5A plans to have a quiz on Tuesday dealing with the first portion of this unit. Both classes are still learning about Ancient Egypt. 5B will wrap up their unit on Tuesday with a final quest (quiz/test), while 5A will be busy with this for a bit longer. The much anticipated LEGO art has begun! We look forward to seeing these pieces hung in the hallway! Devotions for the following week are as follows: 5A  Isaac (M), Jayce (Tu), Judah (W), Keziah (Th), Macen (F) and for 5B Zion (M), Addison (Tu), Claire (W), Eddie (Th), Holden (F). Grade 6

The LORD has blessed us with a beautiful taste of spring/summer this week and we are thankful that we could spend some time outside this week enjoying God’s creation. Next week looks to be a busy one with the “Beauty and the Beast” drama production in full swing. We look forward to watching the play as a school on Wednesday. We have started our next novel study, “Lost in the Barrens”. We also have started our unit in Science on “Matter”, looking at the building blocks of creation down to the tiniest particles and elements. Have a great weekend!

Grade 7

In History we make the leap into the creation of the “interactive battle map”. The battle from the War of 1812 that the student has selected to research will be displayed and sequenced on a board; relief, troop movement and geographical detail will all be included.

Changes of state and the particle theory will have our attention in Science. We’ll move on to King Solomon and his kingdom of peace as we will learn how it foreshadows Jesus Christ’s glorious reign. We are reviewing our documentaries in Independent Study and providing criticism. Enjoy your weekend.

Grade 8

Due to the all day play practice today, the Science quiz on key terms will be written on Monday. As we are nearing the end of Chapter 5, a test is scheduled for Friday, April 21. As many students are involved in the play they will be able to use their notes during the test. Have a great weekend! MJ, RT, and AL
