The purpose of John
Calvin School is to assist and support parents in the education of their
covenant children to the glory of God. In accomplishing this mission, the vision of John Calvin School
is to provide excellent Christ-centered education in service to God and our
neighbour.
Greetings school community on this first day of new month as
we bring to a close week six of home-based learning. As stated in the memo you received yesterday,
we will be continuing with this mode of learning at least until the end of May
as per the Education Minister, Stephen Lecce’s, announcement earlier this week.
Keep up the great work parents, students, and staff! If you have any questions, please don’t
hesitate to contact your child(ren)’s teacher.
If you have any questions of a general nature about home-based learning,
please don’t hesitate to contact the principal.
Please continue to pray for the staff as they continue to pray for
you. May our Heavenly Father continue to
provide us with everything we need during the corona virus pandemic. Let us
continue to put our hope and trust in Him
I would like to share with you another reflection as we
continue in these unprecedented times. As
the days become warmer (certainly the case this weekend), we are no doubt
wondering what the weeks ahead will bring us! We need to have some hope, some
positive expectations for the future. And yet no one can plan too much. What is
really for sure these days? We can be so easily filled with doubts about a lot
of things right now. Even listening to Premier Ford earlier this week, it was
made clear that we remain in uncertain times. Yet we may know ourselves to be
grounded in this storm which can so easily toss us about.
In life we encounter many storms, and most of them are
spiritual storms that threaten our faith. This is where we do well to listen to
what the author of the letter to the Hebrews wrote in chapter 6:19-20(NIV):
“We have this hope as an anchor for
the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the
curtain, where Jesus, who went before us, has entered on our behalf.” This
passage speaks of an anchor. As we know any good ship will have an anchor. When
a ship comes into harbour it will let down its anchor, so we know the ship will
safely stay right there. When a ship is
out on the waters and a storm threatens, it is good to drop the anchor so as to
stop the ship from being driven into the rugged shore and wrecked. Thankfully, we have an anchor; a sure and
steadfast anchor of the soul. How we need spiritual stability also in these
stormy times!
Now the wonderful thing about our anchor is that it is not
cast into the deep dark sea. Rather our anchor has been thrown up on high; up
into the heavenly sanctuary, where Jesus Christ is! He is at the Father’s right
hand interceding for us as we pray. He is there ruling on our Father’s behalf
over all things. We need not aimlessly drift through life. We need not be
buffeted about by the winds and waves of doubt. Securely attached to Him, we
may rest assured that He is directing all things for our good. By faith in Him
we may stay on course as we make our way to the heavenly harbour! And so may we
seek our Lord in prayer, asking him to continue to care for us and our loved ones;
to direct us on the safe way, the stable way of faith. May we ask the Lord to draw us ever closer to
Him in the midst of the instability around us.
May the Lord continue
to provide for those in our community who need Him in a special way; be it
those who are sick, who are impacted by COVID-19, who are dealing with
difficult family situations, or those who are grieving the recent death of a
loved one. Once again we think of the family
of Mr. Herman Poort. We also think of the family of Mrs. C.
VanAndel, who passed away earlier this week.
She is the mother-in-law of Mrs. Cathy VanAndel (our Grade 6A teacher) as
well as the grandmother and great-grandmother to a number of students in our
school. May they continue to find comfort
in our good and gracious God. May
our Heavenly Father continue to surround us all with His love and care.
Kindergarten
registration: Kindergarten
registration forms will be sent out early next week to all parents who have a
child who is of Kindergarten age for the 2020-2021 school year.
Reminders:
*It’s that time of year again, so please continue to
be wary of ticks and mosquitoes.
*The Spring Membership Meeting, originally scheduled
for April 29, has been postponed to May 20.
*The Open House scheduled for May 8 has been
cancelled while the Hike for Hospice has been postponed, likely to October.
*The Gauss Math Contest scheduled for May 13 has
been cancelled, as has the baseball tournament scheduled for May 23 and the
Regional Track and Field Meet scheduled for June 5.
*The Teachers College graduation is scheduled for
Friday, May 22, D.V.
