Good Friday morning John Calvin School
community on what’s shaping up to be another beautiful day as we bring week #8
of remote learning 3.0 to a close and, at the same time, bring to an end formal
instruction for the 2020-2021 school year.
Thank you very much parents and students for all your hard work during
what will altogether be 13 weeks of remote learning (5 in January/February and
then another 8 from mid-April to June) during the calendar year. Yes, at times, the work was challenging or
may have been overwhelming, but the staff of JCS really appreciated how, once
again, parents rose up and took on the challenge of instructing their children,
and the children carried out their learning at home. Your dedication, patience, and
stick-with-it-ness helped accomplish the work that was assigned by the staff on
a weekly basis.
Students still have today and tomorrow to
complete and submit any unfinished work.
The staff will be busy with writing report cards and completing various
year-end activities over the next couple of weeks. May our Heavenly Father guide and keep us in
his care and bless the ongoing communication between parents and teachers for the
remainder of the school year. All the
best and God bless as we work together in bringing another school year to a
close. May the LORD bless us and keep
us; may he make his face shine upon us and be gracious to us; may the LORD turn
his face toward us and give us peace. (Numbers 6:24-26)
Here is what the schedule
looks like for the next couple of weeks:
- The virtual
year end assembly is scheduled to take place on Thursday, June 17. We are planning a 30-minute assembly via the
Smithville Canadian Reformed Church livestream.
The assembly will take place from 10:00 – 10:30.
- Parents and
students are invited to come to school on Friday, June 18 to pick up report
cards and any student stuff that is still at school. At the same time, parents and students can
drop-off chrome books and textbooks, and the students will also have an
opportunity to say good-bye to their teachers.
Mission money jars will again be at the entrance doors for those who didn’t
have an opportunity to contribute on drop-off day this past Thursday. Thank you in advance for your support towards
this worthy cause. The schedule is as
follows:
- 12:00 – 1:00 Niagara South
- The 2021-2022
class lists will be emailed to the parents on Friday afternoon, June 18, after
the pick-up and drop-off schedule is completed.
- The staff
will be in school from June 21-23.
Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with those who need the
comfort, encouragement and guidance of our Heavenly Father in a special way;be it those who are sick or in
hospital, who are dealing with difficult family situations, or those who are
grieving the death of a loved one. In
particular, we think of the Breukelman family who earlier this week laid to
rest Mrs. Marilyn Breukelman.
Staffing update: We are still in
need of a Grade 6B teacher and a part-time (67%) EA position.
A few matters for your attention:
*We wish the Grade 8 students,
their chaperons, and their teachers a fun and enjoyable year-end event next
week. Looking at their itinerary, they
have an activity-packed week to look forward to.
*It’s that time of year again, so
when you are outside please continue to be wary of ticks and mosquitoes.
*A final reminder that the school
is still collecting can tabs for wheelchairs.
*News and Views materials are due
on Monday, June 14 with distribution scheduled for Sunday, June 20.
*Miss Broersma has put together a Kindergarten
welcome package in lieu of Kindergarten Day. They have been or will be sent home to
parents with children already in school, and parents whose oldest child will be
going to kindergarten can pick up the package at the school on Friday, June
18.
*Hike for
Hospice: We thank and praise the Lord that we have
exceeded our goal of $10 000.00. To
date, just under $11 000.00 has been collected.
We will provide a final number in next week’s Chronicle as there are
still a few outstanding pledges that need to be brought to the school. Thank you again to all the families who
participated in the hike to raise money for McNally House. FYI, t-shirts will be available when we
return to school in September.
*Library
Books: If you still
have library books at home, please return them on the pick-up and drop-off day next
week Friday. We would like our year-end
inventory to be complete. The librarians
thank you for your cooperation.
*Lost and
Found: All lost and
found items have been placed on tables so when you are next in school, please
take a moment and have a look for lost items on the tables in the foyer. All remaining items will be taken to the GBF
or Value Village at the end of the school year.
*Graduation: A parent committee is currently working out
the logistics for Grade 8 graduation. A
final decision with respect to the how and when of graduation will be made at
next week Tuesday’s board meeting.
*FYI, included with today’s
Chronicle is the latest edition of The Link newsletter published by the LCRSS
(League of Canadian Reformed School Societies).
