General News

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,… You are serving the Lord Christ.  Colossians 3:23, 24b

It has been another eventful week at JCCS.  We are finishing up book weeks and the Lego blocks are all climbing the wall at the front of the school.  We have enjoyed buddy reading and had the wonderful experience of guest readers showing up at the school during this week.

Grade four has been celebrating Medieval Day in the gym.  It is wonderful to see the community get together to participate in these events. As a community, we work together to educate covenant children to the fear of his name.  Working together as a community strengthens these bonds. Praise God for the gifts that are being shared.

As with all weeks, there are some surprises.  We had a regular fire drill on Wednesday, followed by a fire alarm on Thursday.  It reiterated the importance of regular drills.   The alarm was tripped by a faulty sensor.  We are thankful that dealing with this alarm went well.

Students in grades 4 – 8 have been participating in the Geography Challenge.  The following winners will be competing on Wednesday, March 8.

From Grades 4-6: Micah dH, Allison H, Isaiah J, Joey S, Eliza B, Judah G, Eddie J, Leena S, Caleb L, Joshua V, Grayden B, Gideon J

From Grades  7-8: Jack L, Keagan S, Ella B, Russell S, Jenna VB, MacKenna B, Reuben V, Silas J, Daeton H, and Jacob D

Our competitions will happen at 10:35 for grades 4 – 6 and 1:00 for grades 7 – 8 students.   Everybody is welcome to join in a little healthy competition.   Bring a pencil/pen along and be ready to test your Geography skills!

This week is the final week before the March Break! We give thanks for the abundant blessings. JVI

Kindergarten

It’s hard to believe that in just over a week, we will, the Lord willing, be on March Break! The break is definitely needed and I’m sure will be most welcomed. The students and teachers alike are feeling tired. This past week, we completed the final week of I Love to Read weeks! The kindergarten class started off slowly with their reading but the Lego bricks are slowly piling up in the hallway by the office. Keep on reading, kindergarten! We have until Tuesday to hand in our yellow reading logs! Next week is a short week because of the PD day on Friday, March 10th. Don’t forget to hand in the Toonies for Anchor envelope. Here’s a look at our shorter week:

Monday – SH: Naomi

Tuesday – SH: Hayden

Wednesday – Combined day, library day

Thursday – SH: Neve

Have a great weekend everyone. JB/SV

Grade 1

March! How did it come here so quickly? It has been another great week of learning and reading! The grade 1 classes have worked hard these past two weeks getting their Lego brick towers to climb higher and higher. Thank you for all the help that took place at home to make these weeks of reading a success. Of course, we hope the reading continues even after this too!

This coming week is a short week again as March Break begins on Friday. We pray that these next days will be blessed with continued grow in our learning too. Looking forward to March 31st, we hope to head to Agape Valley Sugar Bush from 9-11. If you would like to come along, please let us know.

Things to practice this week:

Memory work: Psalm 100:4 (for Thursday) Text: Psalm 111:10 (Friday, March 24)

Grade 2

The Grade 2 class have been very busy with reading, reading, and more reading! On Wednesday, the teachers surprised their students by trading places to read to the other class. We’ve also enjoyed some special visitors who read to us! Thanks to Mrs. VanLuik, Mrs. Donker, Mr. VanIperen, both Mr. and Mrs. Boersema (Mrs. Vanderee’s parents), and Mr. Gansekoele. We enjoyed a library scavenger hunt with the Grade 5 students, and some buddy reading with them too.

In our Church History studies this week, we’ve been learning about Martin Luther and his work as a translator. It’s always amazing to discuss how important it is for each of us to be able to read the Gospel for ourselves. Next week we hope to wrap up our Zimbabwe unit before heading into the March break. That’s all for this week! Have a blessed weekend! BV/RG

Grade 3

The children could hear how the LORD used His mighty hand and outstretched arm to save His people from slavery. We hope to have a Bible test next week to finish up this unit. In Science, we are learning about adding heat to a solid or gas, and taking heat away. White art keeps us busy in art class and basketball keeps us busy in phys. ed class. Next week will be a packed week with studying for the children as we are also adding a spelling review test. Please take the time to study with your child. Thank you so much for all the help given so far. We had a great time doing a library scavenger hunt as well as buddy reading with grade 6A and 6B this past week. Thank you to the many guest readers who came and entertained our classes with great stories. That was a lot of fun!!

Grade 5B will be having a Social Studies “quest” on Lessons 1-4 of our unit about Ancient Egypt on Tuesday. Grade 5A will be having a Unit 4 Bible Test on Wednesday. We have finished (or almost finished) reading the book for our novel study, which means we will be starting our shoebox dioramas! Please send along any shoeboxes you may have sitting around at home to school. Thank you in advance! On Thursday, we will be watching The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe with both classes! Grade 6

Another very busy week in our classrooms. We completed the first round of the Geography Challenge. Caleb L., Joshua VI., Grayden B., and Gideon J. will represent grade 6 at the finals in the gym on Wednesday, March 8 at 10:30. Please feel free to join us. The students have been learning about the crusades, the brain, improper fractions and mixed numbers. They have enjoyed doing some phys. ed games together with both classes. Have a blessed weekend. TB/CVA

Grade 7

With the Science Fair all wrapped up and a new month upon us, it seems like a fresh start in Grade Seven. We’ll build a better energy barrier in Science and listen to a Christian perspective of climate change in Geography. In Church History we’ll learn about the influence of Erasmus and humanism during the Reformation in the Swiss Confederation. “Reading Week” went well as we enjoyed a buddy reading session with Kindergarten. We’ve begun a new unit in L.A. dealing with poetry, complete with interviews with poets and some alliteration, onomatopoeia, repetition and figurative language. Enjoy your weekend.

Grade 8

With the Science Fair in our rearview mirror, Gr. 8 has now turned its attention towards the Geography challenge. Congratulations to our classroom finalists who will participate in the school final next week Wednesday. With march break around the corner there are also many units close or nearing conclusion. That has led to final assignments being due in several subjects, particularly Art class with our final portraits due before the break. There have also been several tests and quizzes completed or scheduled for next week. The students have taken this in stride, well done everyone! Have a restful and blessed weekend. Cheers, Mrs. Tesfaye, Mrs. Ludwig, and Mr. J
