General News

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,… You are serving the Lord Christ.  Colossians 3:23, 24b

This Chronicle is the last one of March for this year.  It is amazing how time flies.  We are busy working towards some spring projects which will come to fruition in the next weeks.  We have the drama production coming up on April 20 and 21st.  You will have seen notices about this.  We are also working toward the school concert scheduled for May 25th and 26th.

We congratulate the basketball teams on games well played.  The men’s basketball team could even take home a trophy.  Thank you to Mr. Joosse and Mrs. K. Kelsie for coaching these teams.  Staff had the opportunity to play against the men’s team in a friendly game on Wednesday afternoon.  It was a fun game!

On Wednesday we will be enjoying a Pancake Day put on by the Ladies Auxiliary.  We look forward to a break from our regular lunches.   Thank you!

Later on Wednesday afternoon, John Calvin School will have an assembly at 1:45 to introduce us to walking for McNally House. Amanda Black will give an overview of the work done at McNally House. If all goes well, the hike will happen on the afternoon of May 5th. We are looking forward to learning more about the beautiful gifts McNally House provides for those in need and how we can be a help in the community.

You are all welcome to join us at 8:00 on April 6th for an Easter Assembly.  This assembly will be led by Rev. Wynia.  All are welcome!

Here is a reminder that should you want to see a mid-semester progress report you will need to request them through the office.  The deadline for this request is April 6th.

I believe that is all.  We wish you a blessed week!

Grade 3

This past week was a busy and fun week. Church History was finished with a test about Rev. Hendrik de Cock, and our math financial literacy also received time to finish up with a test.  A Science test has been planned for the coming week. Check your child’s agenda for the date. There is never a dull moment in grade 3. Oh, how fun it was to see so many teachers in our classroom and only 1 student. Way to go dressing like a teacher, boys and girls. We had a lot of fun skipping, and working with a parachute in gym class. Keep practising memory work, text, spelling words and math facts on a daily basis, boys and girls. Remember to bring in food items for the food drive!! Wishing you a wonderful weekend and blessed Sunday.

Paper, cardboard, clay, and fur… our classrooms are littered with craft supplies as the students build scenes from the Narnian world! They have been happily working on their shoebox dioramas, which are looking great, full of incredible details! In Math, 5B has been learning about integers and fractions, and 5A will begin this chapter in the coming week. We are wrapping up our P.E. gymnastics routines and have begun to present them to the class. Devotions are as follows: 5A – Sophia (M), Ashley (Tu), Avery (W), Caleb (Th) and for 5B – Elyse (M), Leena (Tu), Thomas (W), Geneva (Th). Enjoy your weekend! RK/KVL

Grade 6

Many students enjoyed dressing up as a teacher and informed me that they were on yard duty and I could go and play. Loud cheering could be heard as the teachers challenged the senior students to a basketball game. We continue to practice our ball handling skills during phys. ed. Please remember to contribute regularly to the mission money collection. The students are finishing off their slide presentation for their disease research. Some of them will be presented next week. Have a blessed weekend. TB/CVA

Grade 7

In our study of thermal effects on matter we are learning about expansion and contraction, temperature changes and specific heat capacity, and changes of state. In History we continue with our study of a battle from the War of 1812. Students will create a written component, visual component and an interactive battle map. We have learned about documentaries and students need to find an appropriate one to view and receive parental permission to view it. Please ask your child for their, “Parental Permission” form. The reformation continues in the Swiss Confederation with R.C.C. canton vs Protestant canton; will the result be a civil war? Enjoy your weekend.

Grade 8

Looking ahead to next week, we wish everyone a blessed Easter break. In Bible, we are starting on the Ministry of Christ part 3, which coincides very well with Easter as we will be learning about the last week of Jesus’ life. We are continuing on with the novel study Shattered. Wednesday, students are expected to submit their second 5 paragraph essay. They have had ample class time to work on it (at this point it has been 1.5 hours of writing time and an additional 45 minutes for the outline and construction of a proper 3-point thesis). Please check in with your child to see how it is going. In Math, we are currently working on either geometry or coding. RT, AL, MJ
