General News

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,… You are serving the Lord Christ.  Colossians 3:23, 24b

The school had an opportunity to witness the ‘dress rehearsal’ of the Beauty and the Beast production and we were spoiled with a spectacular performance.  Congratulations to all on a wonderful job.  A reminder that doors will open a half hour before each performance.  There is no need to show up early as you will have an assigned seat.  We look forward to welcoming you to these performances!  The Friday evening show is sold out, but there are still some tickets available for Saturday’s performances. May God richly bless the experience of the performers, production crew, and audience.

This coming week we have a number of standard things going on.  The baseball tryouts for grade 7 and 8 students continue on Monday and Thursday.   We also are continuing to learn our school concert pieces.  It is starting to sound quite good!

Mid-semester report cards will be coming home for those who requested them. This coming Friday staff will be working on a number of projects for PD.  We pray that the school will be rewarded by this work.

On Monday Mrs. VanAndel hopes to celebrate a significant birthday. We congratulate her on this milestone and give thanks for the work that she continues to do here at school. Happy Birthday! We also have Mrs. Ravensbergen celebrating her birthday on Friday. May God continue to richly bless her in the work that does here as an EA. I’m sure there will be some celebrations due to these events!

I believe that this is it for this week.  May God richly bless you this weekend. JVI

The students were able to watch the dress rehearsal for the Beauty and the Beast play and they thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks so much to all those involved in the play and for giving us the opportunity to watch this masterpiece. In Bible we are learning about David’s life and how God uses David’s life to accomplish great things! In Math we have started learning all about subtraction and what better way to learn this than with smarties and fruit loops. In Language Arts we have begun practicing reading the book “Ox and Man” and have started our labeling unit. In Science, the students continue to learn all about animals and how the Lord God created each animal so uniquely and intricately. Here is a look at next week:

Grade 1

Greetings from grade 1! The students in grade 1 , as well as the whole school, loved watching the “Beauty and the Beast” performance this past week. What an amazing group of talented young people we have in our upper grades!  After the short summer weather we had, it was tough to see a bit of winter again. The sun is starting to shine and the weather is getting warmer again. As the weather gets warmer, grade 1 is starting to investigate living things (hopefully outside) and explore God’s wonderful creation. Grade 1 is starting the new unit in CKLA next week: The Green Fern Zoo. Students are getting more comfortable reading and writing and it is evident through their testing. Keep up the reading at home!

Memory work: Psalm 99:2

Grade 2

What a special treat it was for the whole school to watch the production of Beauty and the Beast on Wednesday. Kudos to all the students and individuals involved in this. Grade 2 had a fantastic time and has been reminiscing about favourite parts and the funny characters!  In our Language Arts studies this week, we’ve turned our attentions back to the CKLA program to a new unit called Sir Gus. The students are excited to read about a knight and look forward to finding out what adventures he will have.

We’ll also be starting a new unit on Investigating Animals in our Science class. This unit comes with some pretty exciting events and opportunities.  Stay tuned for more details!

Next week Wednesday is a mismatched dress up day for the whole school. How mismatched can the children be?

Have a blessed weekend! BV/RG

Grade 3

We were spoiled watching the fantastic play ‘Beauty and the Beast’. Thank you cast, and organisers!!  We absolutely loved it.  It was a great hit!!  We are nearing the end of the novel ‘Mr. Popper’s Penguins’ and will turn our attention to making posters about God’s amazing creatures, the penguins. In Bible History, we have come to the end of our unit about the Israelites staying at Mount Sinai. We will have a test this coming week. In our Social Studies unit we are learning about Communities. Ask your child what a community is and which ones we have learned about so far. Multiplication with regrouping in ones and tens keep us busy in Math class. And we are learning the 4 times table. Please practise often, boys and girls. Thank you grade 5ers, for showing us your cool dioramas!! Wishing you a restful weekend and a blessed Sunday.

Grade 5

Our highlight of the week this week was watching the dress rehearsal of the play! The students loved it, and undoubtedly many or all of you parents heard about it when they got home. All of Grade 5 has now finished their dioramas, so we had the opportunity to view each other’s dioramas and see the results of all the hard work that was done. Grade 3B and Grade 4 also came to view them. Grade 5B has finished the Social Studies unit on Ancient Egypt, and we are moving back to Science to study space! With this unit also comes the planet project. There will be an outline in the students’ agendas explaining what the project consists of. Parents, please do not spend excessive amounts of money on this. If you do need to buy any supplies, the Dollar store should have everything you need. Grade 5B has also completed the last unit in Bible, which leads us into Unit 1 of Church History, where we will follow the sequence of events from our Bible units into the early church, including things like Pentecost.

Devotions for next week are as follows:

5A – M. Michael, Tu. Ryan, W. Sawyer, Th. Sophia

5B – M. Seth, Tu. Azlynne, W. Colton, Th. Quinten

Have a wonderful weekend, and if you’re planning to see the play, enjoy! RK/KV

Grade 6

Grade 6 continues to roll along during this last stretch of the school year. It has been a busy week for those who are part of the “Beauty and the Beast” production and it was truly a blessing to see all of it come together on Wednesday. They did an excellent job! Next week is a short week with the PD Day on Friday. Next week Wednesday is “Mismatch Day” where students/staff are invited to dress up using mismatched clothing. We look forward to seeing all the crazy colours and patterns. Have a great weekend. TB/CVA

Grade 7

This past week in History we transitioned to the creation of our interactive battle map. Students will recreate a battle ground from a battle from the War of 1812 and show the class the maneuvers and strategies used by both sides of the conflict. This past week we wrapped up our study of poetry and will prepare to venture to middle earth for our upcoming novel study. In Bible History we are learning how Solomon’s glorious reign of peace foreshadows Jesus Christ’s ultimate reign. In Physical Geography we will learn about spatial significance and in P. E. we will work with a game brought back to Badminton House, England from India. Enjoy your weekend.

Grade 8

We are in the last few weeks of our Shattered Novel study. Students should count on some tie-up assignments due two weeks (or so) from now. We will be working on finishing off our Ministry of Christ part 3 in the next week as well. In Science, students will be starting a new chapter. Wishing all the ‘Beauty and the Beast’ students a great couple of performances tonight and tomorrow. RT, AL, MJ
