My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour…, Luke 1:46b-47
And here we are at the Victoria Day weekend. This is the weekend where people get busy with the gardens, and we have a sense that the Summer is soon approaching. With only 5 weeks left of school, we can see that we are nearing the end of the year.
We have been blessed with another regular week of school, something to be thankful for. In the upcoming week, we will see a flurry of activities with school trips. Grade 2 will head off to Ripley’s Aquarium on Tuesday, Kindergarten will go to Happy Rolfs on Wednesday, our baseball teams will play against ACRES on Wednesday as well, the grade 5 classes will go to the Science Centre on Thursday, and the baseball teams will wrap up the week by going to the Baseball Tournament. A busy week of extras, indeed!
We have some staff birthdays this week. Mrs. Stel will celebrate her birthday on Sunday, and Mrs. Van Amerongen and Mr. Vanderwoude will share a day of celebration on Thursday. We wish them all a wonderful day and God’s blessing in the upcoming year. Mr. Vanderwoude will have some changes in the upcoming months as he heads off to B.C. to complete his teacher training. As I have shared with him, we hope to see him back soon.
Our baseball teams have been busily practicing for the tournament which is coming up on Saturday. We thank Mr. DeVries, Mr. Mans, Mr. Breukelman, Mrs. Spoelstra & Mrs. VanBrederode for their work in coaching these teams.
Due to the Science Centre trip on Thursday, there will not be bus service in the afternoon for bus 3 (Brandy Stieva). If you have a child on that route you will be expected to pick up your child(ren) from school.
The HR committee has been working hard at completing the staffing for this year. We would like to share with you some of the final pieces to staffing for the upcoming year. Mr. Breukelman will be moving from grade 6 to grade 8 next year. We thank him for his willingness to do so. We know that with his talent and skill set, he will be an excellent addition to that wing of the school. We will have grade 6 covered by Mrs. Simone Oosterhoff and Mrs. Esther Van Egmond in the one grade 6 class. We welcome Mrs. Oosterhoff back after retirement and welcome Mrs. VanEgmond to the staff as they work as a team to teach this grade. The other grade 6 class will be ably covered by Mrs. VanAndel and Mr. Joosse. Mrs. VanAndel is cutting back her hours in the upcoming year to enjoy a part-time retirement. (?) We wish both her and Mr. Joosse blessings as they take on this role.
I believe that is all for the week. Wishing you God’s continued care and blessing in the upcoming week.

Teddy Bear Picnic was the highlight of the week. The students were so excited to come to school in their PJs with their stuffies. They created teddy bear crafts, enjoyed stories all about teddy bears and ended the day watching one of Mrs. Visser’s favourite movies: The Teddy Bear Picnic. Next Wednesday we plan on having another special day as we hope to go to Happy Rolph’s in the morning and to the splash pad in the afternoon. On Wednesday please ensure that your child has their bathing suit, towel and water bottle. Please also ensure that your child is wearing sunscreen. By the time that you have read this, you will have received an email with more information. Here’s a look at next week: Monday – No school; Tuesday – SH: Hadley; Wednesday – Happy Rolph’s class trip; Thursday – SH: Ivan and Elias; Friday – SH: Weston. Enjoy the extra long weekend. JB
Grade 1
Grade 1 has been busy this week with learning. In Church History, we completed our unit on People in Church History. We have once again turned back to our Bible units, beginning with Elisha. In Science, we learned about what materials objects are made out of. We were also able to see how these materials have their origins in the resources that God gifted us. In Math class, we added and subtracted numbers with 3 digits. In Phys Ed, we practiced activities that we will be doing for Track and Field in June. In Language Arts, we continue to stand in awe of how much growth and change we can see in the students’ progress. It’s a humbling and rewarding experience to teach Grade 1! We continue to experience runny or bloody noses even now that the weather has turned warmer. Our Kleenex boxes have been depleted, and we could use a few more boxes to get us to the end of the year. Please send along a box if you’re well-stocked at home. A big thank you to Mrs. Heather Werkman for treating us all to cupcakes last week. So delicious! That’s all for this week; enjoy your long weekend!
Grade 2
Good afternoon! We are so thankful for the beautiful sunshine we could have this week! Grade 2 has continued learning about habitats in Science, and how animals adapt, and how God has thought of everything when creating animals. Next week Tuesday is our field trip to Toronto to Ripley’s Aquarium! We are planning to be back in time for the buses that afternoon. In Bible we continue to study the stories of Paul and his missionary journeys. Have a great long weekend, and we hope you enjoy Victoria Day together! BV&MB

We planted seeds in our Science unit. Ask us what plants need to grow.
Our Bible unit is coming to an end. A test will be given on Wednesday. See agenda for the notes to study.
Memory Work: Psalm 86:1
Text: Psalm 24:4-6
See agenda for the spelling words
Grade 4
We really enjoyed watching the King Arthur play at ACRES this week Wednesday. What a wonderful showcase of young talent and a great inspiration for our upcoming Medieval Day! Thank you to Mrs. VanLuik for driving us! 4B continues to plug away in Fractions with Mrs. Stel and will start Decimals with Mrs. Baartman next week. 4B is working through our final math drill booklet on the multiples of 9. Next up is mixed multiples, with the continued goal of completing 40 questions in 1 minute. 4A is continuing in Decimals after completing our Fractions unit. The Fractions test proved to be much more challenging for students – please check in on them about how math is doing! We are also beginning our unit on Esther, which includes a comic strip for every story – students will have adequate time in class, but if incomplete these will be sent home for homework to keep up with the work.

We could enjoy a wonderful week of weather as we come to the May long weekend. This week we could enjoy God’s creation and history as we visited Crawford Lake to enjoy the Wendat Aboriginal Village and enjoy a nice hike around the lake. Next week we enjoy a shorter week with Monday as a holiday. It looks to be a regular week with not too much extra curricular activities going on! Enjoy your long weekend and have a blessed Sunday!
Grade 7A
Next week in History we’ll learn about “Radical Jack” who found “two nations warring in the bosom of a single state.” We’ll then move on to Lord Elgin and the Rebellion Losses Bill. In Church History we’ll learn why John Knox, the Calvinist leader of Scotland, described Geneva as “the most perfect school of Christ that ever was on the earth since the days of the Apostles.” We’ll re-introduce ourselves to the particle theory of matter as we investigate pure substances and mixtures in Science. Our L.A. protagonist will risk his life as he plays riddles in the dark and jumps out of the frying pan and into the fire. Enjoy your weekend.
Grade 7B
What a beautiful spring week we could enjoy! In History we dug into the development of Upper Canada after the War of 1812. In Geography we looked more intently at renewable resources and how overuse threatens them. In L.A. we continued our study of the Hobbit, following the company as they endured trolls and goblins! Have a lovely long weekend! Cheers, Mr. J

We had a great week planning and talking about our Ottawa Trip. Please send in the Wilderness Tours waivers and any Ottawa Permission slips. Count on a Science terms quiz Wednesday and a Science Chapter test on Friday. We can look forward to planning our Hydraulic System projects and students should be arranging for building materials for the following week. In Bible, we are beginning a deep dive into Paul’s three missionary journeys. And in Language Arts, chapter comics on Voyage of the Lucky Dragon are due Friday. We have another major writing assignment yet before the end of the year as well. In Geography, we have begun our final chapter using the Open Doors Curriculum provided by CRWRF and in French, we are on our final unit and learning about making travel arrangements in French. Have a great long weekend, RT, AL and RV
