General News

“Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.” Job 28:28

Week two is coming to a close of the 2024- 2025 school year.   I often compare starting a school year off to starting a big ship and bringing it out to sea.  It takes a lot of planning and careful navigation to chart the course.   It appears that we are out to sea and the ship is charting the course that has been set.   I shared this analogy with someone the other day and he said that sometimes it also looks like a duck.  The duck is calmly swimming over the water’s surface, but if you look underneath the water you will see some furiously paddling feet!  Well, we’re enjoying it!  We hope you are too!

The West Lincoln Community Care folks have been down and dropped off their barrels for non-perishable items.  It is good to see that we show love to God and support our neighbour.  Through this program, we have a way to show our support for those who are in need in the community.   These barrels will be ready for your food donation until October 4th.

Here is a last-minute reminder to have your forms returned to the school.  They are due for September 13th, so please ensure they are all returned.

Picture Day is on Monday. All but the KB will have photos on Monday.  The photographers will return on Tuesday for that class’ pictures.

We are still looking for some forms to be returned.  In particular, we are looking for a few more class moms.  Please see the attached form.

The librarians have been hard at work getting our school from the ResourceMate software to OPALS in order to fit our expanding library. The library will open the week of September 23.  There are 100 books that were not returned last year.  Please return them or there will be a $10 charge.  We thank our librarians for their hard work and we know that the library will be a blessing to our learning in the upcoming year!

We have had some very diligent students selling chocolate bars.  This year we ordered more chocolate bars to sell so that we could make enough money to cover the trips.   Please encourage your children to keep on selling so that we can make this a successful campaign. (Only 38 boxes of the 240 left!)

I believe that is all for this week.  May God bless the plans for the week ahead.

Classroom News

Kindergarten

We had a busy week in kindergarten and are getting used to the routines in our classroom. In Bible class we finished learning about the days of creation, and we were amazed at everything God created. Next week will be learning about Cain and Abel and Noah. We enjoyed our time in the gym playing games with both classes and learning how to use Ipads. On Wednesday we practiced bus safety drills, thank you to all our bus drivers for showing us how to stay safe in an emergency. Picture day is on Monday for KA and Tuesday for KB. We are looking forward to our trip to Mountainview Orchards on September 25th, let us know if you would like to join us on this outing. Have a great weekend and Blessed Sunday! DV/MV

Grade 1

Grade 1 has been very busy this week with reviewing our letter sounds and names. The beginning of the year is often spent in extensive review so that we are ready to jump into our language arts program with a solid letter knowledge base. We have also been busy with identifying and continuing patterns in math. The students are quite adept at this. In our Bible classes, we heard about the fall into sin, Cain and Abel, and the flood. Some of the students were even able to share about their visits to the Ark Encounter. In our Social Studies classes, we learned about bus safety. It was such a timely lesson with the bus evacuation drills being held on Wednesday. We look forward to learning about fire safety next. That’s all for this week! Enjoy the beautiful weather this weekend!

Grade 2  Wow, we’ve finished the second week of the school year already! The students have become more comfortable in the classroom and with the daily routines. This week, we had our first Bible quiz and continued with New Testament stories about Jesus. The students enjoyed Dot Day on Thursday! Dot Day is based on the book The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. We enjoyed reading the book and sang a fun song to go with it. The students are looking forward to having their dot art up in the hallway! Have a great weekend! MB&BV

Grade 3

Hello parents. You can ask your child about rounding numbers, early settlers and First Nations peoples’ lives, or vowels and consonants and they should be able to share what they’ve learned this past week. In Bible class so far this year we have been hearing the stories of creation, the fall, the flood, and more. Our first Bible test will be on Tuesday, Sept. 17. Looking over the notes, stories, and review would be beneficial for all students. Don’t forget picture day on Monday! We can’t wait to see everyone ready to smile!

Memory work: Psalm 17: 3

Grade 4

Grade 4 comes with some firsts for the students. They are allowed, if they wish, to practice with the cross country team. These practices take place at lunch hour, 3 times a week and a number of students are taking advantage of this opportunity!  The students did a great job on the posters for the Thanksgiving Food Drive and the bins with the posters are now placed around the school, ready for donations. Grade 4B has started learning about the church as the household of faith in Church History and we are having some good discussions about the similarities between our congregations and our families. 4B students will also start leading the class in lunch devotions next week. Students are asked to select a Bible passage to read to the class and to lead us in the Lord’s prayer.

Both classes are studying Rocks and Minerals in Science class and we have lots of opportunity for hands-on learning as our class is well equipped with various samples of many different rocks and minerals. Remember your water bottle for PE class!

(4B Devotions: M-Aleah, T-Sawyer, W-Shawn, Th-Leah, F-Taryn)

Monday – Picture Day, PE (4B)

Tuesday – PE (4A)

Thursday – PE (4B)

Friday – MW – Ps. 66:1, Mission $, PE (4A)

Grade 5

Week 2 is nearly complete, and the students are settling well into the class routines. We have learned about the birth of John the Baptist and Jesus, and next week we will be discussing the time before Jesus began His public ministry. We have read stories of both people and animals doing a good job, and will continue with this theme next week with more short stories. Grade 5 is very well-represented in the cross country practices! Don’t forget shoes suitable for running, and a change of clothes. Devotions for the week are as follows: 5A – Ethan (M), Blake (Tu), Oliver (W), Taurie(Th), Oliver (F). 5B – Emmett (M), Claire (Tu), Trenton (W), Lia (Th), Kingston (F). Have a great weekend! RK/KVL

Grade 6A

The students have made a good start with setting up their notebooks properly. Great job learning the meanings, spelling, and usage of the first twelve vocabulary words. Keep up the effort! On Thursday we enjoyed a delightful trip to the Oosterhoff farm to further our study of Flight as well as set the stage for our study of Biodiversity later this school year. Have a blessed weekend! CVA/MJ

Grade 6B

This week has taken us into our first units of study in many of our subjects.  Church History began with a review of what the church is, why we study its history and how God has cared for His people throughout time. The students had their first glimpse into the world of geometry, as well as working with and comparing whole numbers.  The students also experienced what it was like to run down the street in 1943 Denmark and titi ta’d their way through music class!  We had a lot of fun finding the countries on the map where all of our “stuff” comes from. Yesterday’s trip to Oosterhoff’s Bush was a resounding success as we took a couple of swims in the pond and explored God’s beautiful creation.   All in all a good week with lots to look forward to! Have a wonderful weekend and a blessed Sunday. SO/EV

Grade 7A

The past week was unique in the sense that it was our first full work week in Gr.7A. The students seem to be making a smooth transition into the routines and responsibilities of the new grade; please be sure to ask your child how they are doing. Next week in Bible History we will learn how God’s people want to be just like the other nations as they will demand a king. In Math we’ll move from number sense to number theory. This will include primes, composites, factors and multiples. There is a field trip looming on the horizon as we conclude our study of rivers and oceans in Geography. We were reintroduced to the multi level fitness test this past week and can’t wait to beat the beep next week. Enjoy your weekend.

Grade 7B

The first full week of school absolutely flew by! In grade 7B, we were busy continuing to read and discuss short stories in Language Arts class. In History, we learned about the exciting explorations of Jacques Cartier from France to Canada and the students imagined themselves in his place by writing journal entries (a reminder that these are due next week Thursday!). Looking forward to next week, we will continue to learn about Saul and the beginning of his kingship in Israel in Bible class. In Math, we will be finishing up our Number Sense unit; the students have been diligently working hard on their math, persevering until they got the right answers. I’m looking forward to continuing to learn and work together, have a great weekend!

Grade 8

As we come to the end of the first full week of school, students are settling nicely into the routines and rhythms of Grade 8. A few reminders for next week; We have a Math quiz on Tuesday on the first 6 lessons of Chapter 1, as well as a reading comprehension quiz on Thursday on our first 3 short stories. Picture day is on Monday, so please come prepared for that. Next week in Science, we plan on looking at pond water through a microscope to see what kind of unicellular organisms we can find, as well as building a 3D animal/plant cell out of household materials. Please remind students to have their materials in by Wednesday. Have a great weekend. TB/RT
