“Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.” Job 28:28

We have enjoyed a beautifully long summer with this weather.    It has been a blessing to enjoy this at recess, although the cross-country run practices at noon were a little warmer than we desired.  I am sure that this has helped condition the runners!

The soccer teams had some exhibition games at the Liesureplex against CAIRN.  They were beneficial for helping the students develop their skills in a competitive situation.   Our teams will compete on Saturday, September 28th at Southward Park. Here is the schedule. You are all welcome to come and take a peek at all the different teams from across our Ontario schools compete.   You can support the grade 8 Ottawa trip by stopping by the concession stand and grabbing a burger or the like!

Our librarians have been busy upgrading the library software from ResourceMate to OPALS.  The work is appreciated and students are looking forward to checking out more books from the library starting this week.   We are looking for a volunteer librarian for the following times: Wednesday afternoon from 1:00-2:30, and Thursday afternoon from 1:00-2:30.  Please let the office know if you would be available to join our librarians.

Here is a reminder.  We need a little push to get the last 30 boxes out of the door for chocolate bar sales.  We use the funds for our field trips.   It is also a good way to get outside money to help and support the school.

On Friday we hope to have our first Early Years morning.  We are thankful for the coordination that takes place for this event as these are very well attended and enjoyed.

I believe that is all for this week.   We wish you God’s blessing and strength in the upcoming week.

Kindergarten

We had a great week getting started with our math, language arts and science units. In science we had fun doing our first science experiment together.  Please continue to work on your All About Me pages and return them to school, we are excited to put them all together in a class book.  We have been busy filling up our hallway with the students’ artwork, which they love to see. Have a great weekend!

Grade 1

He is the LORD, our God unfailing…The LORD showed his faithfulness in the Bible stories about Abram to us this past week. We could focus on fire safety in Social Studies. We practiced STOP, DROP, and ROLL, crawl under smoke, and learned how to quietly exit the school when there is a fire. This past Wednesday, the whole school practiced a fire drill; how neat that it coincided with our topic. In art we are learning how to paint with watercolours, add details with a sharpie, and draw a variety of lines. Ask us about our ice cream art. Next Friday we hope to go to the Safety village and learn more about fire safety and street safety. For that day please don’t send along a microwave lunch. Don’t forget to bring some non-perishable food items for the food drive and a toy or $2 for the Fallfest boy basket.

Grade 2

Another week has flown by! In Bible we have heard the stories about Jesus’ baptism, the calling of the first disciples, and His first miracle! In Science, we’ve learned about the different properties of solids and liquids. We enjoyed our investigation on thick and thin liquids! The students loved seeing which liquids flowed quickly and which ones flowed slowly! We are finishing up our first Math unit and will be starting chapter 2 on addition and subtraction! On another note, it would be very helpful to have an extra set of clothes in your child’s backpack just in case. Have a great weekend and a blessed Sunday! MB & BV

Grade 3

Bonjour mes amis!  Ca va?  Students enjoyed the first French classes!  It’s good to have a second language. Students wrote their first Bible test and did a great job!  We now move on to Church History and John Eliot. On Tuesday, October 1st, we hope to have our annual pioneer trip. (DV)  A note was sent home with the students last week.  Have fun getting your outfits ready! If you have any questions, feel free to ask your child’s teacher.

There’s not much to report this week in Grade 4. That doesn’t mean nothing is happening however! Cross country practices continue on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. The bins for the food drive are slowly filling up. A reminder that Grade 4 is responsible for the birthday themed fall fest basket, or please contribute $2. For the rest, regular classes continue and the students have settled well into their new routines. As always, remember your water bottle for PE!  Grade 4A will have a Bible Test on Wednesday.

This past week, we read about Jackie Robinson in connection with the theme “Good Job!”. This week, we will learn about Mother Teresa and her good job. Grade 6A

In Language Arts the students read a story about students that won the Google Science Fair with their innovative ideas. We discussed what the problem was and how these young engineers solved them. A nice connection to what we have also been discussing in Science class! In French we are reviewing the numbers, learning some verbs, body parts, and reading a simple story pronouncing the words correctly. During Math we were encouraged to follow the steps to be successful in rounding the numbers correctly. In Art class we experimented with creating a portrait using different types of lines while in Church History we began to study Charlemagne and his impact on God’s gathering, defending and preservation of His church. The students are reminded to bring a food drive item and something for the soup theme basket. Have a blessed weekend, Mrs. VanAndel and Mr. J

Grade 6 B

How fast the weeks are flying by!  In Bible, this week, we continue to learn about the Fall into sin and what that meant for Adam and Eve, but also what that means for us as well.  We have completed our first Art project and hope to see them hanging outside the classroom soon.  There will be a Church History Quiz on Monday and a Bible Quest (not a quiz but not quite a test either) on Thursday. Please check your child’s agenda for what needs to be studied. Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy the beautiful weather! SO/EV

Grade 7A

This past week in Science we moved from mixtures and pure substances to solutions. We’ll learn about what makes materials dissolve and take a closer look at the amazing universal solvent the LORD made. In L.A. as we explore setting we’ll read short stories involving time travel, involving the past and the future. Multiples, composites, primes and factors will be our focus next week in Math chapter two, “Number Theory”. Our big event next week will be our field trip to the shores of Lake Erie on Wednesday as we construct and apply our watersheds and river basins on the Wainfleet beach. Enjoy your weekend.

Grade 7B

Grade 7B has had a pretty busy week, wrapping up some units and chapters and moving on to new ones. We’ve finished the beginning chapter in History about the discovery of North America, next week we will begin learning about what life in New France (Canada) looked like. There will be a short quiz in History on Monday about chapter one. Our Bible unit about Samuel and Saul is coming to a close as well with a test coming up next week Friday. We will also be beginning a new unit in Math on Monday, one that is less review and more new information so come prepared to work your brain grade 7! Have a great weekend!

Grade 8 What a beautiful week it has been this past week. As we now enter the thick of things, students have been challenged with pace of Grade 8 with more independent work and more responsibility placed on them. Students have been handling the challenge well, and continue to adjust to the new expectations. A few quizzes will be happening next week, including a Math quiz on algebraic expressions (Tuesday), a Science quiz on cell parts (Wednesday) Bible quiz on the Intertestamary period (Thursday), and a vocabulary quiz on Word List 2 (Thursday). A reminder that the soccer tournament is next week Saturday, which then also means our first Ottawa trip fundraiser, the concession stand. Thank you to all who volunteered to help out. If you still would like to sign up for any of the positions, or have a high school student who is willing to get some community hours that day, let us know and we will send you the schedule to sign up. Enjoy your weekend! TB/RT
