“Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.” Job 28:28
The sun is rising beautifully as I type these notes this morning, albeit a little later every day. Looking at our calendar we see that we are moving from September into October in the upcoming week and with it the dark is creeping in as we head towards the shorter days. We have completed the first four weeks of the school year in the blink of an eye. God’s faithfulness in providing us with an opportunity to work faithfully in educating covenant children.
Tomorrow is the annual Soccer Tournament at Southward Park. Our teams are polished up and ready. Here is a copy of the schedule should you want to stop in and see how it is going
Here is a reminder. We need a little push to get the last 30 boxes out of the door for chocolate bar sales. We use the funds for our field trips. It is also a good way to get outside money to help and support the school.
We have been collecting food for the West Lincoln Community Care food drive. We hope to wrap this up on October 4th. Thank you for your donations to this cause.
On Sunday, Mrs. Gansekoele will be celebrating her birthday. May God continue to bless and sustain her in the upcoming year.
I believe that is all for this week. We wish you God’s blessing and strength in the upcoming week.

Kindergarten
What an exciting week in Kindergarten! Wednesday was a busy day, we had our first visit to the school library. The students were very excited they were allowed to take books home with them. We spent some time at Mountainview Orchards, where we got to enjoy a wagon ride, pick an apple and have a tasty treat. Thank you to the Feenstras for having us and to all our parent volunteers who joined us! Next week, we will continue with our Five Senses unit in Science and will hear about the Tower of Babel in our Bible lesson. We have settled nicely into our schedule and routines this month and look forward to all we’ll do in October. Enjoy your weekend!

Grade 1
Grade 1 had a fantastic time at the Safety Village today. We practiced our driving skills, we crossed the roads safely, and we also crawled out of a room with ‘smoke’. It was a great way to wrap up our unit! Next week we will begin a science unit on life systems. We are also eager to dig into our language arts program, beginning on Monday. Throughout the year, we will be sending home a ring of sight words for your child to master reading. The ring will start with only a few words as they are introduced in class. Please practice these words with your child, or have an older sibling practice with them. These sight words are very important in helping your child read with fluency. As the weather is changing, please check that your child has spare socks in their backpack. Puddles are hard to resist! That’s all for this week, have a blessed weekend!
Grade 2
Wow, just like that, the first month of school is almost over! We have been very busy in Grade 2 learning about solids and liquids in Science, learning about cityscapes for Art, and starting a Math unit on addition strategies. The students were excited to have their first visit to the library this year. Our library day is Mondays! Please continue to bring in your non-perishable food items for the food drive; we would love to see the bins overflowing! Please also bring in an item for the girl basket for Fall Fest as well! Have a great weekend and a blessed Sunday! MB & BV
Grade 3
This upcoming week marks the end of the first month of school and the beginning of the next. We are ready to start our new month off with our field trip to Westfield Heritage Village. On Tuesday, we anticipate some Pioneer children dressed up and ready to head off on a great adventure. In church history, we are nearing the end of our unit about John Eliot. Keep an eye on the agendas for when we will have a unit test. Math will have us practicing addition facts and learning some new strategies. With lots of exciting things and work ahead, students are reminded to continue doing their best to be responsible students. We are working for the King! Have a great weekend, JB/ KO

Grade 6A
The students are involved in 2 main service tasks. One is looking after the recycling for the school. Our class will continue doing this until the end of January when the other class (6B) will continue. The other way we help is by setting up for the early years event in the gym and the other class will clean up. The students enjoy helping out with these activities and learn a lot about working together efficiently. This past week students began a new Art project called, ‘A T-shirt about me’. In Science we had a quiz on Flight and the parts of planes and helicopters. Next Tuesday we hope to have a quiz on Charlemagne. Have a blessed weekend! CV and MJ
Grade 6B
Fall has arrived, and though the weather is cooling off a bit, we are definitely loving the warmer weather. We enjoy being outdoors as we continue to hone our soccer skills in Phys. Ed. We have come to the time when many quizzes and tests are being assigned. Please encourage your child to take their studying seriously. Next week we will be having a Social Studies quiz on Tuesday and a French Test on Wednesday. French duotangs are already in your child’s backpack. Studying a little over multiple nights is a good habit to get into. Our first Art projects should be hanging in the halls by the end of today. Feel free to pop into our hallway for a peek next time you’re at the school. Have a lovely weekend and a blessed Sunday. SO/EV
Memory Work: Hymn 74:1,4

Grade 7A
We have learned how the LORD listened to His people’s request and He gave them a, “king like all the other nations”. We saw how this king was a leader in battle, braggadocious and self-serving. We’ll see how with the next king, the LORD shows mercy to His people and gives them a king, “after His own heart”. Before we move on to our study of King David, we’ll transition to Church History and the Reformation in Germany; just in time for Oct. 31. Greatest common factors and least common multiples will have our attention next week in Math. In L.A. next week we’ll “get cooking” with a short story, “Home on the Range” as we study “theme” and act out the story. What a blessing the LORD has given us with the universal solvent as we’ll see in Science. Enjoy your weekend.
Grade 7B
The first month of school went by so quickly! Grade 7B has busily been working hard on their school work. In French, we’ve been working on family vocab as well as beginning to work on conjugating some irregular verbs. In Language Arts, the students spent the week writing their first major writing assignment (a reminder that this is due next week Thursday). On Monday, we will be starting a new unit in Bible class about David. Have a great weekend!
Grade 8
It has been a whirlwind of a week in Grade 8. We completed tests in Math and Bible and quizzes in Science and Vocab. As we look at next week, we have a couple more quizzes that the students can look forward to! On Thursday, it looks like we will be having a reading comprehension quiz on our last 3 short stories. We have successfully finished our first chapters in History and Geography in our respective classes and now will be switching subjects with the other classes. We pray for the participants and volunteers at the soccer tournament tomorrow that all may go well. Thank you also to those who are running/volunteering for the concession stand! Enjoy your weekend!
