“Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.” Job 28:28
This week concludes with our three Tripleball teams participating in the tournament hosted by Guido. We’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our coaches for their dedication in preparing the teams: Mrs. Werkman (Girls), Mrs. Spoelstra (Mixed), and Mr. Van Iperen (Boys). A special thank you also goes to Mr. Breukelman for stepping in as the Boys Team coach on the day of the tournament.
Looking ahead to next week, we are excited to celebrate 60 years of God’s faithfulness at JCCS on the 60th day of the 60th year. We invite you to join us for a special assembly at 10:30 AM, featuring guest speakers and presentations from each grade. Following the assembly, a light lunch will be served, and the gym will remain open for socializing and viewing old JCCS photos. In the afternoon, students will enjoy some outdoor activities. Please remind your child to dress warmly for the cooler weather.
As we transition from November to December, the colder and potentially snowier weather is upon us. To keep everyone informed in case of inclement weather, we typically make a decision about Snow Days by 6:00 AM. We’ll send out a text message to parents, and the announcement will also be posted on Instagram and our website.
This week, we also celebrate two staff birthdays. On Tuesday, I’ll be marking another year, and on Friday, Miss Broersma will be celebrating her birthday. May God bless her in the year ahead!
That’s all for this week. Wishing you all a week filled with God’s providence!

Kindergarten
Another week has flown by in Kindergarten! It was fun to see the students and teachers dress up for book character day. Thank you parents for helping make this day special and thanks to Rev. denHollander for coming in and reading to KB. In our Bible stories this week we learned about the famine in the land, Joseph’s brothers bowing to him and how God always keeps his promises and cares for his people. With the cooler and wet weather here to stay, we ask that you please send an extra pair of socks and pants in your child’s backpack. On Monday, we will be having a 60th anniversary celebration at 10:30 followed by lunch (fries and nuggets provided) and the rest of the day spent outdoors. Please dress appropriately for the weather. Have a great weekend! DV/MV
Grade 1
Grade 1 had a thoroughly enjoyable week with many special activities. On Tuesday we could have a book character dress up day full of princesses, knights, mice, cats, I spy, doctors, construction characters, and so on! Then on Wednesday, we could go skating with the help of Grade 7 students (and parents!) The Grade 7 students were so careful to serve the Grade 1 students with their guidance, encouragement, and even some skating lessons. What a beautiful interaction to witness! In our Bible studies, we have been learning about God’s people in exile. God heard His people groaning and sent Moses to them. Next week we will hear about the 10th plague and the exodus from Egypt. Next week we also look forward to the 60th anniversary celebration of JCCS. We hope to begin our day with some mini-lessons in the style/subject matter of 60 years ago. In the Ministry of Ontario’s Health curriculum from the 60s, the students were subject to a health inspection each morning. I’m sure our students will find it amusing when we inspect their fingernails, ask them if they brushed their teeth, and check if they’ve brushed their hair! The afternoon will be spent entirely outside. While there will be lots of opportunity to warm themselves by a fire, we would like to ask the students to dress extra warmly that day. Please remember hats, mittens, and perhaps boots too. It promises to be an exciting day!
Grade 2
How is it already the end of November? ☺ In Bible class we have switched over to working on our first Church History unit which is about the Worship Service. We have been learning about the order of the worship service and discussing things like the votum, the salutation, and the benediction. Your child will have taken a sheet of paper home to take with them when they worship on Sunday. We hope they will be able to recognize and check off some of the items that we have been comparing and discussing about Church Order. Grade 2 has had a lot of fun finishing off the Reading Month with some extra activities. For those who have forgotten: With the wet weather off and on, and the expected cold weather we would appreciate extra socks and clothes for your child. Thanks! Have a great weekend and a blessed Sunday! BV&MB
Grade 3
Just like that, November is over. This is also the end of Reading Month. Our students enjoyed lots of extra reading time and activities that went along with this special month. Book character day was a highlight! Next week, both classes will be switching back to Bible History, where the focus will be on God’s faithfulness shown through the life of the patriarch, Jacob. In math, we continue to work on learning about multiplication and building fluency with the facts. Extra practice at home would be beneficial. JB/ KO
Memory Work: Hymn 20: 1, 4; Proverbs 3: 9, 10
See the agenda for spelling words.
Grade 4
Another busy week in Grade 4 has wrapped up! This is the end of book month and it was great to celebrate our month of reading with a book character day on Tuesday. There were some wonderfully creative costumes! Next Monday, the school will be celebrating 60 years of John Calvin Christian School! Our activities will be outside all afternoon, so please dress accordingly to the weather. Grade 4A has completed the math unit on Subtraction. Next week we will do a review and on Wednesday there will be a math test. Grade 4A also has started the new social studies on Canada. The students have been practicing cardinal and ordinal directions. They will practice giving directions to a fellow student using a city they have designed. Grade 4B has finished their science unit on rocks and minerals today with a test. Next, we will be studying our very own homeland of Canada. In math, we are finished with geometry and moving onto financial literacy.

Grade 5
We are looking forward to Monday’s 60th anniversary celebrations! Thank you to those who took time to interview JCCS alumni for our grade 5/6 presentation; we trust you have learned a few things about our history! Please remember to dress warmly on Monday as we will spend the afternoon outside.
5A will have a math chapter 4 test on Tuesday, and 5B will have the chapter 3 test later in the week. Because lunch will be provided on Monday, students will not lead devotions. For the remainder of the week, devotions are as follows: 5A – Emmaline (Tu), Micah (W), Adele (Th), Eli (F). 5B – Oliver (Tu), Aiden (W), Jace (Th), Scott (F). Have an enjoyable weekend! RK/KVL
Grade 6A
This past week we enjoyed a field trip to the Warplane Museum in Mount Hope. If you haven’t done so, this is a worthwhile family outing. Thinking of flying, next week for our Bird project, the students will be starting to get their paragraphs and pictures organized with borders. On Monday we especially look forward to the 60 year celebration. What a joyous occasion to rejoice in the many blessings of the LORD throughout these 60 years of covenantal education. On a personal note, the two of us find ourselves reflecting with thankfulness that the LORD has guided our lives in such a way that we could be part of this school community for so many years. Mrs. VanAndel especially, having been involved with JCCS since 1979! Have a blessed weekend! CVA MJ
Grade 6B
What a fun day we had on Thursday going to the Warplane Heritage Museum. The students thoroughly enjoyed themselves. I’m sure you have heard all about it already, but if not, ask your child about their favourite part of the trip. This week we say goodbye to Book Month. It has been a fun experience with our D.E.A.R. time, our buddy reading and of course, book character day. How fun that Miss Frizzle came to teach for the day! We are looking forward to Monday when we will be able to celebrate the 60th year of JCCS’s existence. What a blessing from our Lord. We hope to see you for the festivities that day. Have a wonderful weekend and a blessed Sunday. SO/EV

Grade 7A
Another eventful week has passed in Gr. 7A. We completed and presented our flags for the JCCS 60th Anniversary celebrations. The top three groups will present their flags at the event next Monday. On Wednesday we had the opportunity to serve Gr. 1 as skating “helpers”. We continue to make progress with our Science Fair projects. After learning how to record data, students are now encouraged to complete their experiments at home or if necessary, at work. Next week Dr. Luther will explain his concerns about penance and good works to the clergy of the RCC, and we’ll learn about Rome’s response. Enjoy your weekend.
Grade 7B
This week was another busy one for Gr. 7. The projects for the 60th have finished up with some students chosen to present at the assembly next week. Be sure to come check out their work on Monday! On Wednesday, Gr. 7 enjoyed a fun afternoon of skating with Gr. 1; the students displayed excellent service to Gr. 1. In language arts, the students practiced their formal writing skills and began a project to finish off our short stories unit. Wishing everyone a nice weekend!
Grade 8
It has been a busy week. Thank you for the poinsettia orders! We hope you all enjoy your flowers. Tuesday we have a Church History Test on the Reformation in England, and Thursday we have a Science Test on Chapter 3.
We go skating all afternoon on Wednesday (starting at 12:15 until 2:15) and parents are welcome! Helmets are required, please make sure that your student has a helmet to wear.
Have a great weekend, RT and TB
