General News

“Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.” Job 28:28

We are entering into the last week of school before the Christmas break.  We rejoice that we can celebrate our Saviour’s birth.  For a musician, the explosion of music at this time of year, filled with praises to the king, even in a secular setting calls the world to account that there is real truth and real meaning to this Christian holiday.  May God continue to work mightily in us to help spread this joyous message.

We will be having a Christmas assembly at 11:00 on Friday December 20th in the gym.  This will be led by Mrs. Poort. There will be singing appearances by the Grade 1b and Kb classrooms. We will also be handing out the prizes for the Remembrance Day poster and literary contest. We look forward to seeing you there. School will be dismissed early with the buses leaving at 12:00.

Here is an early reminder for those who like to be prepared for the events that are happening at the school.  The January 23rd  School Spirit Day will be Western Day.  We look forward to seeing y’all dressed up in Western gear.  We might even hear a few yee haws.

On January 6th, when school starts up again the gym shorts portion of the dress code will be enforced.  This means that students from grades 5 – 8 will need to wear either the old JCCS gym shorts or the new Land’s End gym shorts.  Please ensure that your child has the right gear.

Shorts are still available in the office.

This week Mr. Breukelman will be celebrating his birthday on Wednesday.   I’m sure his mom will treat him (and maybe a few others) to one of his favourite treats!    We wish him the LORD’s blessings in the upcoming school year.

Wishing you God’s blessings in the upcoming week.

Kindergarten

We had a busy week in kindergarten.  We are still working on our 6-10 math unit and have enjoyed all the fun songs and games to go along with counting and printing.  In language arts we continue to learn a new letter each day and started reading some 3 letter words, how exciting!  Wednesday was extra special this week with a pizza lunch and treats. Thank you, Ladies Auxiliary!  Next week Wednesday is our festive dress up day in kindergarten, we look forward to a fun day with games, crafts, treats and singing with Miss Bee. Come and join us on Friday at 11:15 for the Christmas assembly, KB will be singing some songs too.  Please remember to pack extra socks and pants in your child’s backpack. Have a great weekend.  DV/MV

Grade 1

How fun it was to finish our week with a presentation by the Guido choir! The students (and teachers!) always enjoy their lively song selection. We also enjoyed having some moms and Grade 8 students in our rooms on Friday while the teachers enjoyed a luncheon given by the Board. It was very much appreciated! In our social studies this week, we began a new unit on “Transportation”. This is an engaging unit for the students. They love to learn about all different ways to move from place to another. In Bible, the Israelites were given the Ten Commandments. Many of the students could recite much of the passage. But they were surprised to learn about how hard it is to follow God’s laws. In math, we’ve been learning about Canadian coins and counting different amounts of money. This can be a very challenging concept. Ask your child to count nickels or dimes to see how they’re doing. Keep practicing the tricky words, we’ve started testing the students to see how they’re doing with them. (You can find which ones we’re testing on the memory work slip) Have a great weekend!

Grade 2

We are working through the beginning of our Social Studies unit on Nunavut! So far the students have really enjoyed looking at maps of Ontario and Canada. We also have come to the end of the unit about our worship service. Next week in Grade 2 we’re

looking forward to a fun Gingerbread themed week in Language. This Friday afternoon we enjoyed listening to the Guido choir. Please remember to send extra clothes with your student ~ there were quite a few wet and chilly children this week. Have a great weekend and a blessed Sunday! BV/MB

Grade 3

Hello, readers. Our memory work for next week is Psalm 103:1 where we can sing, “O bless the LORD, my soul, bless your preserver! My inmost being, praise his name with fervour.” Indeed, there is so much reason to bless the Lord and praise His Name! Students should also memorize Exodus 20: 1-6 for Friday, as they continue working to understand the importance of God’s law for our lives. We have a busy week coming up in Grade 3 to end off our calendar year together. Please see what quizzes and tests we have in the coming week.

3A – Math Test on Thursday

3B – French quiz on Monday: colours; Bible Test on Friday; Spelling Test on Friday

Grade 4

Grade 5

The last school week of 2024 already?! How quickly time moves along! We will continue to be busy during the last week. Gr. 5A has completed the Call it Courage novel study, and is spending time in a grammar unit. Both 5A and 5B will have a mid unit test for Bible on Tuesday. Miss Vanderlaan sent an email to the parents about 5B’s Secret Santa on Friday. Due to the planned absence of several students, 5A will be holding their Secret Santa on Thursday! Devotions: 5A – Kolten (M), Mila (Tu), Hailey (W), Adelaide (Th), 5B – Peri (M), Kenzie (Tu), Jasmine (W), Emmett (Th).

Have a great week! RK/KVL

Grade 6A

The students were able to complete their displays of their bird research projects. They are hanging in the hall for all to see, stop by and check them out! Many students are commended for being willing to lend a hand to their peers so that the job could get done. How fitting that next week’s memory work is Ps.133:1, it was a beautiful example of the communion of saints at work. This past Thursday we completed a bible quiz on our study of Abraham, check in with your child to see how they did. Thanks to the ladies auxiliary for providing the students with a pizza lunch. It was greatly appreciated! Also thanks to all those involved with serving lunch to the staff on Friday. We look forward to the great food and fellowship. Have a blessed weekend. CVA MJ

Grade 6B

It’s beginning to feel a lot like winter! And in th Grade 6B class it’s beginning to look like winter as well.  The students have been enjoying making a number of cool snowflakes to hang off our ceiling in the wee bit of spare time they can carve out. Our Art project and our Bird project are taking up a fair bit of our days this week.  Our hope is to have these wrapped up by the beginning of next week. We are also wrapping up our Bible unit and mostly wrapping up our Math unit and so Wednesday and Thursday will be test days for those. Our pizza lunch was enjoyed by all. Thanks so much to the ladies for such a wonderful treat. Have a wonderful weekend and a blessed Sunday. SO/EV

Memory Work: Psalm 133:1

Wednesday: Bible Test (might be Thursday)

Thursday: Math Test

Devotions: M. Liam G., Tu. Allison, W. Liam H., Th. Denver

Grade 7A

We’re enjoying a different type of math as we work our way through plane geometry. For several of us, it is a nice change from fractions and expressions; math we can see and visualize. We’ll wrap up our study of landforms in physical geography as we learn that “natural” disasters are the LORD calling us to repentance in light of our Saviour’s return. Our scripts and panels are complete for our graphic novels, and next we’ll affirm with our group members what colours we’ll use and what the characters will look like. In about five weeks our science fair projects will need to have experiments completed and data collected… please check in with your child regarding that process. Enjoy your weekend.

Grade 7B

The second last week of school before the break went by quickly as grade 7 has been extremely busy finishing up some work. On Tuesday, we finished our brief unit on er verbs in French with a quiz and started a new chapter about things found in our homes. On Thursday, the students wrote a math test and finished the challenging unit on integers. Next week we will begin with plane geometry in math. The students have been working hard on drawing some pictorial renditions in church history; presenting and summarizing the stories in creative ways. Looking forward to another enjoyable, busy week next week as we close out the year!

Grade 8

Another week closer to Christmas Break! Next week, we will focus on “wrapping up” several units to close out the year. In math, we will complete our individual units on geometry (8A) and coding (8B). This week, we also finished our Tom Sawyer novel study with a five-paragraph essay, and next week, we’ll focus on our final art project: painting ceiling tiles based on a scene from the novel.

A reminder to students: you will have three science classes to work on your science fair projects. Please bring any materials needed for construction or experiments you’d like to complete at school.

Exciting news—we’ve been given the opportunity to go skating two more times in the new year! The dates are booked for January 22 and February 19. Lastly, next week, we will have a church history test on the first section of our unit on the Reformation in Scotland. Enjoy your weekend! TB/RT
