“Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.” Job 28:28

The sounds of the school concert are filling the halls and our heads with wonderful songs. The concerts are coming up, and if you’d like to know the times, here they are: We hope to have a matinee concert on April 16 at 1:00 p.m. and an evening concert at 7:00 p.m. on April 17. Both will be held at the Smithville Canadian Reformed Church.

This week, John, Noah, and Mason will be heading to the annual Chess Tournament at Maranatha Christian School in Fergus. We wish them success! Baseball practices are starting up, and we are still looking for coaches for the girls’ team. If you’re able to help, we’re aiming to hold practices on Tuesdays and Fridays. Please contact the office if you need more information.

On Wednesday, we hope to have Pancake Day. We’re looking forward to this tasty treat, served by our illustrious Ladies Auxiliary. We thank them in advance for adding some variety to our lunch!

I believe that’s all for the week! May God continue to bless our work.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten had a blast on Wednesday with our Teddy Bear Picnic. We made a few bear crafts, had to find a hidden puzzle to build and did some graphing in Math. We loved seeing everyones stuffies! The children played a new game in the gym with balloons and we think it may be a new favourite. There is only one more full week of school before our Easter performances, we are so proud to see how hard the children have been practicing. Thank you for sending in items for the community food drive. Next week, we will be having a special pancake lunch on April 9. A reminder to anyone who has not sent in extra clothing/socks to please do so, with the wet weather the children come in quite dirty from recess. Have a great weekend! MV/DV

Grade 1

We’re very thankful that we could have another week of learning in the grade 1 classrooms this week. In Bible class, the students heard about Solomon’s ascension to the throne and his great wisdom. We also learned about the temple of God that Solomon built. In our language program, we continue to read fables and practice all the skills being taught. We learned about verbs, and how they change to show present or past tense. In our social studies, we completed our unit by learning about Frederick Banting and Charles Best. It has been a fascinating unit for the students, they truly enjoyed learning about many people who have helped to shape Canada’s history. Next week we will turn our attention to a science unit on structures and mechanisms: everyday materials, objects, and structures. That’s all for this week! Enjoy your weekend!

Grade 2

We are looking forward to our exciting Detective Day next Wednesday – a dress up day filled with fun activities. We are still busy reading Nate the Great and trying to figure out who took Annie’s missing picture! Since we are still working through our chapter on subtracting and regrouping double digits, in Math, we hope you are still practicing together at home. Grade 2 also wrapped up their Church History unit on John Calvin and next week we will again put emphasis on the story of the death of Jesus on the cross and what it means for us. We will take some time retelling these stories this coming week in our class, covering all the stories from Palm Sunday to Easter Monday – such a blessing! Have a great weekend and blessed Sunday! BV&MB

Grade 3

What do all of these items have in common? A ruler, a weigh scale, a thermometer, a measuring tape, and a speedometer. They are all tools used to measure! Grade 3 has been spending time learning about the tools and their units of measurement in math. A test will be coming up soon. In Bible, we will continue to follow along with Moses as he guides the Israelites in the ways of the Lord while at Mount Sinai.

Be sure to check your child’s agenda for the spelling words so these can be practiced at home.

Memory Work: Psalm 65: 1 (no text)

Grade 4

Another fun week has gone by in Grade 4. We have started a reading unit on King Arthur and the Round Table – a great read so far! We are continuing in preparation for the Easter program which is scheduled for April 16 (matinee) and 17 (evening) so our recorder songs have been put on hold. Grade 4B has a quiz on Time and Temperature next week Friday for math class.

Grade 6A

With the typical southern Ontario weather yo-yo, we head into the weekend looking forward to a day of rest. On Tuesday the students will have a Bible Test on our study of Joseph. In Math next week we will be adding and subtracting fractions. We also look forward to learning more about various diseases as some of the students will present their disease research slides. We are in the home stretch for the Easter concert which is coming our way in two weeks time. Have a blessed weekend, CVA MJ

Grade 6B

The weeks keep flying by!  This week we continued to look at the life of Peter Waldo. God used him and others to translate the Bible into the language of the common people and then distribute it throughout Europe at great danger to their lives. What a great blessing it is that we can pick up this “pearl of great price” at any time and read it for ourselves.  We wrapped up our math unit on integers and we began a new social studies unit on Indigenous people of Canada.  Next week we will have several tests, so keep working hard Grade 6!

Grade 7A

This past week we brought our warming and cooling science chapter to a close and consolidated our learning with an activity where we attempted to build a better energy barrier. The idea was to stop the transfer of thermal energy and to maintain the movement of hot water particles. Our last chapter in physical geography dealt with climate and now we move on patterns in vegetation; we’ll recognize the connection between the two. Be sure to ask your child how their new math unit is coming along and what they have learned regarding financial literacy. Our study of the Reformation moves from the Holy Roman Empire (Germany) to the Swiss Confederation, and to a priest named Ulrich Zwingli. Enjoy your weekend.

Grade 7B

Grade 7 had a busy, exciting week. The students had the opportunity to make individual pizzas using the recipes they wrote in french. We also began our Dave Ramsey financial literacy course by learning about net worth and becoming smart with money. Grade 7 has also been working hard on practicing their radio plays in groups, complete with exciting sound effects! We’re looking forward to recording those radio plays next week and listening to the final product. The students have been working on another project in history by creating an interactive battle map of a key event in the War of 1812 and we’re looking forward to seeing those final products next week as well. Wishing everyone a relaxing weekend!

Grade 8

The Canadian “false spring” was in full effect this week, as we experienced rain, ice, snow, 20-degree weather, and sunshine—all in a matter of days. In the classroom, it was great to have a week of regular activities.

Looking ahead, we have a couple of tests next week. Grade 8A will be writing a Geography test on Friday. In Bible History, we are nearing the end of our study on Christ’s final weeks on earth and will be writing a test on Thursday to close out the unit. In Math, we have started our unit on linear functions and will have a small quiz towards the end of the week.

The women’s baseball team is still looking for a coach! If you think you can help in any way, please let the office know.

Enjoy your weekend!
