“Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.” Job 28:28

We’re getting closer to the concert, and we’re ready to present it this week! A separate memo has been sent home with all the important details. Please note that for Thursday’s concert, the church doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

This marks the third time that the Elijah concert has been performed that I can remember. It’s a powerful performance that beautifully connects the story of Elijah to Easter. From a sacrifice ignited by fire from heaven, even after being drenched with water, to the ultimate sacrifice we celebrate in the risen Lord, this concert holds a deeply meaningful message. We look forward to seeing you there!

Three of our top chess players—John, Noah, and Mason—traveled to Maranatha Christian School in Fergus to compete against some very talented players. Altogether, 225 games were played! A huge thank you to Mrs. Theresa Jongsma for coordinating this event. We’re grateful to our students for representing us so well.

McNally House fundraising forms will be heading home soon. Our goal this year is $17,500! Just one form per household is needed, and don’t forget to include t-shirt sizing as well.

We’re also celebrating a few birthdays this week!

  • Mrs. Poort will mark her special day on Thursday, with just a few candles on her cake!
  • Mrs. E. Breukelman and Mrs. Tigchelaar will be celebrating together on Friday.

We wish all of them a joyful celebration and God’s richest blessings in the year ahead.

Finally, Thursday will be Mrs. Sarah Kingma’s last day before heading out on maternity leave. We pray for a safe delivery and God’s guidance and strength for her and her husband, Lucas, as they prepare to welcome their child and raise them in the fear of His name.

Blessings,

JVI

Kindergarten

We have come to the end of another busy and exciting week in kindergarten.  We finished our math unit on subtraction and will be starting on teen numbers next week.  On Wednesday we all enjoyed our tasty pancake lunch, thank you ladies Auxiliary!  Did your child tell you about the newest pets in grade 8? We all enjoyed our visit to see the little chicks.  Next week KA will be coming to school on Tuesday (not Thursday) for the whole school concert practice.  Kindergarten has been doing so well with all of the songs and are excited to perform at the concerts, we hope you enjoy it too! Have a wonderful weekend! DV/MV

Grade 1

Pancake lunch in the middle of the week was a grand success! The children loved their delicious food—thank you to the Ladies Auxiliary for this tasty treat. Another week of learning has flown by. In Bible class, we learned about the divided kingdoms and how they came about because of King Solomon’s sins. In reading, we kept busy exploring fables and working on our sounds—vowel pairs, digraphs, and blends. Math class threw us into the fraction jungle this past week—one slice at a time! We wrapped up the week with a wonderful all school practice for our upcoming Easter concert. We hope to see many of you there—either at the matinee on the 16th at 1 PM or during the evening performance on Thursday at 7 PM!

Grade 2

We had a great week in Grade 2 with two big highlights on Wednesday. -One being Detective Day! We enjoyed dressing up and participating in some fun activities. The students got to do some mystery math, and play some games where they had to use their detective skills and guess what was in some scented balloons, as well as some mystery bags. The other special day was on the same day, Pancake Day, where we got to enjoy a delicious pancake lunch, which is Detective Nate the Great’s favourite.  Next week we will take some time retelling the stories of Jesus’ death on the cross and what that means for us. Such a blessing! Have a great weekend, and a blessed Sunday. BV&MB

Grade 3

Hello again!

Are you looking forward to the JCCS Easter concert?  Grade three is super excited and ready for this wonderful event.  May the Lord be praised and glorified. In mathematics, we finished our unit on measurement.  We move on to more multiplication lessons next week. In our Bible classes, we continue to see how God keeps His covenant with Israel as they journey to the land of Canaan. This week, we prayed for Seraya Schutten who underwent a surgery with regards to her shunt.  We thank the Lord that the surgery was successful and may the Lord continue to bless and keep her in His care. On Wednesday, we had a yummy pancake lunch.  Thank you to the ladies’ auxiliary!

On May 1st, our class hopes to go to the Shaw Festival production of “The Lion, the Witch of Wardrobe”! We will be back to school after the buses leave, so students will need to be picked up from the school. We will be sending more information about this closer to the day!

The students were busy this week with adding and subtracting fractions, preparing for a French quiz about colours and clothing, and finalizing their slides to present in front of the class. We plan to complete the novel study in the coming week. After finishing our Bible History unit on Joseph, we have begun a new unit on the forerunners to the reformation. Ask your child what they learned about Peter Waldo! In History we continued our study of the explorers, covering Jacques Cartier and Henry Hudson. Next week the big event is the Easter concert. We look forward to praising our heavenly Father with many of you on Wednesday and Thursday. Have a blessed weekend! CVA MJ

Grade 6B

A week full of testing is behind us and we look forward to our concert performances next week!  The students have practiced a lot and are ready to share what they have learned.  We hope you all enjoy it.  In addition to this the students have journeyed to northern Canada in their novel study “Lost in the Barrens” travelling with Jamie Macnair to the camps of the Crees and Deer Eaters.  They are soon to travel even further north up river rapids and lakes to the desolate barren lands.  We have also begun our study of Canada’s Indigenous people, gaining insight into what our country was like before later European explorers arrived by ship.

The students are enjoying the, “Foundations in Personal Finance” unit. The Reformation has taken hold in the Swiss Confederation and is either being accepted or denied within the individual cantons. How will Ulrich Zwingli and the canton of Zurich address the possibility of civil war? After learning about climate in geography we have moved on to vegetation as we examine the connection between the two. We’ll be introduced to desertification, deforestation, biodiversity and habitat loss next week. After we present our radio plays, in language arts, we’ll move on to grammar. Enjoy your weekend.

Grade 7B

Grade 7 is slowly heading back into a regular routine as the Radio Play and History projects were wrapped up this week; it was exciting to listen to and see the student presentations. The students have been learning much about finances this week in math and we were blessed with the opportunity to hear a presentation from a deacon. Next week, we are looking forward to a busy week with the Easter Program preparations as well as the start of a new unit in Bible about King Solomon. Wishing everyone a good weekend!

Grade 8

It has been an interesting week in Grade 8, as we welcomed seven new feathered friends into the classroom. It is amazing to see our Creator at work as we witness new life breaking out of their shells.

Next week will be a busy one. Between an organizing meeting on Monday afternoon, a full school concert practice in the church on Tuesday, an afternoon matinee performance on Wednesday, and Good Friday, we will also try to fit in some learning.

Grade 8A looks forward to a Geography test on Tuesday. Grade 8 as a whole will have a Bible test on Tuesday, a Science test on Wednesday, as well as our regular vocabulary test on Thursday.

We will definitely need the long weekend after next week! Enjoy your weekend! RT/TB
