General News

“Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.” Job 28:28

With the concerts nearly behind us, we look forward to a quieter week ahead.

As a reminder for tonight, I’ll quote from the memo sent home:
For the evening concert, please note that the church doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and will remain locked until that time. The school doors will also open at 6:30 p.m., allowing you to drop off your children before finding your seat in the church. This adjustment is in response to concerns from our last concert, where a number of unsupervised students were engaged in horseplay while waiting at the back of the church. We hope this change will help create a more comfortable and orderly environment for everyone.

We look forward to seeing you at the concert and sharing the story of Elijah in connection with Easter. Yes, this performance has been done before in JCCS’s history—in 2002 and 2010, if my homework is correct. While we’ve made a few changes, much of it remains intact.

Next Thursday, Mrs. VanAndel will be celebrating her birthday. We pray that the LORD will continue to bless and sustain her in the year ahead.

On Friday, we look forward to hosting an Early Years Morning. All are welcome to join us at 9:30 a.m.

I believe that’s all for this week. May God bless you and provide for you as you celebrate Christ’s sacrifice and His victory over death and sin.

Kindergarten

Christ is Risen, Alleluia, Rejoice the Lord is King! We hope you all enjoyed the Easter concert.  Kindergarten did a fantastic job singing at the concerts, and we were so proud of how well they sang their special song “My God is so Big”.  Next week we will continue to work on teen numbers, this has been a tricky concept for some; extra counting practice at home would be helpful.  We have one letter left to learn, ask your child if they can guess what our last letter is?  Just a reminder, Open House day is coming up on May 2nd, KA will be coming to school also on this day instead of Thursday.  Please send in extra pants and socks for your child if you haven’t done that yet, it is very helpful to have a spare after a wet recess.  We look forward to an extra long weekend as we remember the death and resurrection of our Saviour. Have a blessed weekend! DV/MV

Grade 1

After weeks of learning new songs and preparing to present our concert, it was certainly exciting for the big moment to arrive this week! To God be the glory! In God’s providence, our Bible program also reached the stories of Elijah and King Ahab. Each morning, the students were eager to hear what would happen next in the story. In our language arts, we finished our unit on fables and are beginning a new unit called, “The Green Fern Zoo”. This is a unit which teaches about different animals while challenging the students to continue growing in their reading skills. Please continue to practice tricky words and sound cards until your child has learned them with confidence. In math, we’ve been learning about fractions and fractions of a set. The students did very well with this unit and will complete it with a test next week. We hope you all have a wonderful Easter weekend as we celebrate our risen Saviour!

Grade 2

Grade 2 has been busy with our Science unit learning about air, water and the environment, and we are almost finished the whole unit.  In our Language Arts classes, we learned about media and how we are to think critically about the media in our lives. The students had many questions about using the internet and were eager to share about the rules in their homes regarding screens and websites. Next week we will turn our studies back to our core Language program.   Grade2 is very excited looking forward to the Easter concert! Hope to see you there.  That’s all for this week! Have a blessed long weekend!  BV&MB

Grade 3

What a joy it was to hear the concert come together with the students singing so beautifully! “Declare His praise, your voice be jubilant for God is excellent!” Wishing everyone a blessed Easter weekend. When we return next week, students can expect to continue working on multiplication in math. Practicing multiplication facts at home will be beneficial to increase fact fluency! We also encourage students to study their spelling words (words in agenda) for the test on Friday. Grade 3 will have a Bible test at some point during the week. Please see the agenda.

Memory Work: Psalm 43: 1; Text: Psalm 23: 1-3 (two weeks)

Grade 4

By the time you read this, our matinee concert is already completed and we are looking forward to one more evening performance of our Easter concert. The students worked hard to learn their pieces and their efforts paid off! Many thanks to our director and accompanist! Regular music classes will resume next week, so don’t forget to bring your recorders to school every Friday.  Wishing you all a lovely weekend as we commemorate the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ!

Grade 5

After many weeks of hard work, and dedicating lots of time to them this week too, we got to perform our concerts yesterday and today. We hope you enjoy them and can join us in proclaiming God’s greatness and glory.

Next week, 5B will be starting our first church history unit, where we will learn about the early church after Jesus’ ascension into heaven.
In case you missed it last week, on May 1st, our classes hope to go to the Shaw Festival production of “The Lion, the Witch of Wardrobe”! We will be back to school after the buses leave, so students will need to be picked up from the school. We will be sending more information about this closer to the day!
Devotions for next week are: 5A – Harper (Tu), Mason (W), Kolten (Th), Mila (F), and 5B – Lia (Tu), Kingston (W), Ezra (Th), Macrae (F).
Have a blessed weekend as we commemorate the death and resurrection of our precious Saviour. RK/KV

Grade 6A

After the break we will start a new novel, “Lost in the Barrens”. We will also start working with integers in Math. We will turn our attention to John Wycliffe in our ‘Forerunners of the Reformation’ unit, and can expect an Explorers test soon. Have a blessed Easter! CVA MJ

Grade 6B

What a special joy it is to see all the students “Declare Your Praise” to God this week!  We hope you are able to come out and see them perform.  This week 6B continued their journey to freedom with Julilly in the novel Underground to Canada.  In math they are learning how to find the perimeter and area of different shapes – this involves memorization of different formulas which can be challenging.  Our indigenous studies have led us to the people of the Northwest coast who built impressive totem poles from the cedar trees that grow in this region.  We hope to replicate these in our classroom.  To do this we need paper towel and toilet paper rolls (no cedar poles for us) so please keep these coming.  We hope that you all have an enjoyable long weekend, a time to reflect on the sacrifice our Saviour made to give all who trust in Him new life.

Grade 7A

With thankfulness, after many weeks of practice, we could present our Easter Program. The LORD allowed us to memorize and harmonize and present to His covenantal people. Next week Wednesday, April 23, we will tour the Niagara area as we visit battlefields pertaining to the War of 1812. If you would like to join us, please let me know’ an itinerary will be sent home. Also next week, the students will be introduced to the “Anchor/Beacon Grade 7A lunch”, this will be an opportunity to host residents for lunch and serve them. Curriculum wise, we’ll continue with grammar, changing vegetation patterns, the development of Upper Canada, and specific heat capacity. Enjoy your long weekend.

Grade 7B

This week was a busy one with all the Easter concert preparations. We also began a new unit in Bible class about Solomon and are looking forward to diving deep into the building of the magnificent temple next week. The Grade 7 students presented their projects about the War of 1812 in history class this week and will be seeing the battle locations in person next Wednesday during our field trip. Wishing everyone a blessed Easter weekend as we remember Christ’s sacrifice and resurrection!

Grade 8

It has been a jam-packed week, even though it was a shorter one. We wrapped up another science unit with a test and are looking forward to building our hydraulic machines next week. In Bible History, we’ve also completed our study of the end of Christ’s ministry. Please remind students to bring in their Anchor Work Day forms if they haven’t already. Next week appears to be uneventful in terms of extracurricular activities. Enjoy your long weekend! TB/RT
