It is an incredible blessing to witness God’s covenantal faithfulness in providing Christian education for our covenant children here at JCCS. Our Open House was once again a true highlight. While it may have come with some extra nerves for our teachers, it was heartwarming to see generations gather to celebrate learning and the beautiful gift of our school.
This upcoming week is a little quieter than the last, with regular baseball practices and some special birthdays to note:
- Thursday – We celebrateMrs. D’Addazio’s birthday. We pray for God’s continued blessings and strength in her life and work.
- Saturday – Mrs. Boersema celebrates her birthday. We give thanks for her health and faithful service and pray for God’s ongoing provision in her life.
May God bless and renew you through the proclamation of His Word this Sunday.

Kindergarten
The big day has finally come! We had a lot of fun welcoming our special visitors in the kindergarten classrooms. Thank you parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles for coming to the open house; we hope you enjoyed your time visiting the school. We are looking forward to the hike for hospice this afternoon, thank you to all who are joining us on the walk. Please send in your collected money for McNally house next week. It looks like next week will be a quieter week, back to normal routine. Reminder: return library books on Wednesday, we only have 1 month left to get new books and this is a highlight each week. We are in need of baby wipes again, we would appreciate a few packs to get us through to the end of the year. Have a wonderful weekend! DV/MV
Grade 1
It has been a busy week in Grade 1! In Bible studies, we continued learning about weak and sinful people from all times and places whom God used to bring the Gospel of salvation to the nations. We explored the story of Stephen, a deacon who became the first martyr for professing Christ as his Saviour. We also learned about Paul, who once persecuted Christians but was transformed into a missionary, spreading God’s Word far and wide. The children are thoroughly enjoying the informative stories from the Great Fern Zoo. In math, we introduced calculators as a fun way to explore adding and subtracting larger numbers. The students were excited to use this new tool and practiced their skills. Our hallways have taken on a cheerful, spring-like atmosphere, decorated with the beautiful artwork created by the children. As we write this, we’re looking forward to welcoming many of you at the Open House and participating in the Hike for Hospice.
Grade 2
This week in Bible, we continued learning about Paul and his first missionary journey. In Math, we have been focusing on adding triple digit numbers with regrouping in the tens and the ones! The students have really enjoyed the first lessons in our Animals unit in Science class. We are sending home a sheet to see who would like to come along on our class trip in May. Please check your child’s agenda. Thanks to all the many visitors who came today and to those who joined us on the McNally walk. Have a great weekend! MB & BV
Grade 3
What a lovely day with Open House and the McNally Walk. Thank you to all of those who came out. Just a note that our mission money count has been fairly low over the last few weeks. Please consider supporting the mission work through the school. The spelling words for the week can be found in each child’s agenda, with the test at the end of the week on Friday.
Memory Work: Psalm 80: 7; Psalm 23: 4-6 (two weeks)
Grade 4
Have a great weekend!
Grade 5
It was a full week, but a very good one! We enjoyed our class trip to see The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe at the Shaw Festival. Although it was a little more secularized than the book, we can still see the gospel story through it and praise the Lord for His goodness to us in Christ! We also enjoyed having so many visitors in our classrooms today, and were thankful for the opportunity to go on a hike to support McNally House in the afternoon. Next week, 5A will be starting the first church history unit, about the early church. It will be a quieter week for extracurriculars, and we look forward to having lots of time to dedicate to teaching and learning.
Devotions for next week are: 5A – Blake (M), Oliver (Tu), Taurie (W), Maddison (Th), Thomas (F), and 5B: Jace (M), Scott (Tu), Jocelyn (W), Maelle (Th), Michaela (F)
Have a wonderful weekend! RK/KV

Today is another special day at John Calvin Christian School, one in which we can open our doors to our families and the supporting community, and then walk through town, in support of an important community cause. Hopefully many of you were able to come out and observe the classes in action. A big thank you also to the volunteers who came out to walk the Hike for Hospice with us – your help is appreciated. Next week looks to be a regular week of study, with a science test on Friday. Enjoy your weekend!

Of the past week, two events stick out. On Tuesday we could welcome and host our brothers and sisters from Anchor and Beacon for lunch and activities. We can agree with Proverbs 11:25, that “one who waters will himself be watered”. On Friday we could welcome visitors and go for a hike. Next week Monday, we will welcome two entrepreneurs into our classroom in connection with our math unit, foundations in personal finance. We’ll hear about the challenges and appeal of being an entrepreneur. In geography we’ll learn more about the connection between the loss of natural habitat and endangered species. We’ve begun practicing for high jump and other track and field events in anticipation of the track and field meet to be held early next month. Enjoy your weekend.
