“Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.” Job 28:28
With the changing of the months, we’ve also seen a change in the temperature. We can be thankful that the weather in May was cooler, as it allowed us to steam ahead with our learning without being stifled by the heat.
I want to thank you all for your kind well wishes as I worked my way through an accelerated Master’s course this past month. I’ve now completed all the requirements for my MEd and hope to graduate in the fall.
On Monday at 4:15 a.m., the grade 8 class will be heading out to Ottawa. Excitement has been building throughout the week as students realize their trip is just around the corner. There’s also a buzz among the volunteers, some of whom will be “roughing it” for the first time with this energetic group. We wish them the LORD’s blessings for the week ahead.
The grade 7 class will be leaving for their end-of-year trip on Wednesday. With Niagara Falls as their destination, they’re looking forward to taking in some history and seeing the Falls up close! Please note that due to this trip, there will be no bus service for Bus 3 on the afternoon of Wednesday, June 11.
Students in grades K–6 are getting ready for Play Day on Friday, June 13. Please remember to apply sunscreen, send a labelled water bottle (or two), and pack a salty snack, especially if it’s hot. With grade 8 away in Ottawa, grade 7 students will help run the events. Cupcakes and a hot dog lunch will be provided by the Ladies’ Auxiliary for students, parents and all other spectators—thank you, ladies! The schedule is included elsewhere in the Chronicle, and all are welcome to attend.
Our year-end class trips are scheduled for Tuesday, June 17. Students attend free of charge, while chaperones must pay their own way—$14.95 for Safari Niagara (Grades K–3) and $30.50 for Wet’n’Wild (Grades 4–6). Please submit chaperone requests to the office by June 9, indicating which grade or child you wish to accompany. Do not send requests to teachers. All students and chaperones are to wear a JCCS gym shirt or a royal blue shirt; chaperones needing a shirt may request one from the office.
If you want to mark your calendars in advance – staff and grade 8 plan to play their annual baseball game at 1:00 on Monday, June 16th. You are welcome to come cheer on the teachers, or the students, if you wish!
I believe that is all for this week. May God bless us in the upcoming week!

We had a fun week in Kindergarten. Wednesday was a great day to visit Happy Rolphs and the splash pad. The children enjoyed cooling down in the water! Thank you to our volunteers who came with us. With only a couple weeks of school left, we have started to review material taught throughout the year. It has been a good refresher for the students. Next week, we are excited to celebrate all the summer birthdays with a special party. We have been busy practicing for our upcoming Field Day, the children are excited for a fun day! That’s it for now. We hope you have a wonderful weekend and a blessed Sunday. MV/DV
Grade 1
It seems surreal that we are wrapping up our school year already. This week we had our last visit to the library. Mrs. Lof spoiled the students with a treat as we said goodbye to her! Each week, she faithfully introduced the students to new authors and read fantastic stories to our classes. Thanks for a wonderful year, Mrs. Lof! We have begun learning our last memory work for this school year (Hymn 84:1). We are also hearing Bible stories from our final unit. This week we heard about the exiles in Babylon, and will continue this unit into next week. Next week we plan to complete our language unit on the Green Fern Zoo. We will start another unit called, “Kate’s Book”. We look forward to our play day next Friday! Please remember to label water bottles on that day. Have a great weekend!
Grade 2
This week we’ve enjoyed some more countdown activities in grade 2, as we count down to the last day of school! We had a gum day, no shoes in the classroom, a video day, and a crazy sock day! The students are excited to see what next week’s activities will be! We are still making our way through our last reading unit on Sir Gus. We have also started an endangered animal project with Grade 6! A reminder to return all library books. Thanks again to our volunteer librarian! Please make sure to look for any missing books at this time. Have a great weekend and a blessed Sunday! MB & BV
Grade 3
Happy June!!!
We heard stories about a man named Athanasius. Ask your child how the Lord used him to defend the truth of the gospel that Jesus is God. We hope to hear stories about Joshua soon. Math is all about geometry.! Ask us about lines, line segments, angles, polygons, and solid figures. Just a reminder that all JCCS students must wear their JCCS t-shirts or a similar blue shirt with sleeves for both play day and the end of year school trip. If your child doesn’t have one, please contact the office asap.
Thank you.
That’s it for now.
No more psalms or hymns to memorize.
Text: Psalm 24:4-6
See agenda for your child’s spelling words.
Grade 4
Yet another week flies by as we come close to the end of the school year. We are spending this upcoming week completing lessons and introducing final projects. Both 4A and 4B are planning to make chocolate chip cookies on Wednesday, June 11th from 1:30-2:30 to complete our lessons on fractions and measurement. If you are willing to help us make cookies, please contact Mrs. Tigchelaar via email (steph.tigchelaar@johncalvinschool.com) so that we can ensure we have enough help! There is no more library for the rest of the year. If your child has any books floating around at home yet, please bring them back to school.
Keep in mind that Friday is our local field day and play day. We are excited about a fun day with the whole school. Please remember to pack lots of water, as well as a hat and sunscreen. That’s all for now!

Grade 5
As we are nearing the end of the school year, we are working to wrap up several units. 5B will be writing a quiz for church history lesson 5. 5A will continue working through the unit and will be completing assignments for lessons 4 & 5 in class. Several students in 5A will be taking home penmanship work in the evenings. They have come up with a plan in order to get caught up on their outstanding pages and I will be checking daily to see if they are keeping up. They should have the book finished and handed in by Friday. We are reading our last novel, “Mystery at Cranberry Farm” and will begin a fun project connected to it. On Tuesday and Thursday, please bring a baseball glove for P.E. class. If you have any extras and are willing to share for the week, that would be appreciated! We will also be studying the endocrine and reproductive systems. The boys will meet with Mr. Van Iperen, and the girls with Mrs. Kelly. Please read through the material sent home over the weekend to prepare for the first class.

We have enjoyed our time with the grade 2 students helping them to research an endangered animal. As we study and learn along with them, we are reminded again of how awesome and powerful our Creator is. In social studies we have wrapped up studies of the Indigenous peoples of Canada. We hope to spend the remainder of our time with things of an intergalactic nature. Have a blessed weekend! CVA MJ
Grade 6B
Welcome to June! It is very hard to believe we have reached this point already. Though we are in the last month of school, there is still so much that is to be accomplished. Both novel studies have been wrapped up and we are now focussing our language arts attention on Lego Literacy. The students are thoroughly enjoying creating their own scenes from Lego and then building their stories around them. Math sees us building on our knowledge of fractions as we are learning how to add, subtract, multiply and divide with fractions. We are wrapping up our French unit on La Famille by making a family booklet. Next week we will begin our final science unit on biodiversity. In between all this class learning we are looking forward to our local Field Day/Play on Friday. Hope to see you there! Have a wonderful weekend and a blessed Sunday. (Mrs. VanEgmond is not here next week, so I will be teaching all week)

Grade 7A
We leapt and ran our way through the first week of June as well as at the Track and Field Tournament. Next week when JCCS has a “play day”, Gr. 7A/B will assist in the running of the events. Calvin has returned to Geneva and will continue his reforms making the city, as John Knox said, ” “It is the most perfect school of Christ that ever was in the earth since the days of the Apostles. In other places I confess Christ to be truly preached; but manners and religion to be so seriously reformed, I have not yet seen in any place besides.” We will wrap up our study of energy transfer systems in science by building one using a tea light. What caused armed rebellion on the streets of Toronto in 1837? We’ll find out in history. Enjoy your weekend.
Grade 7B
Have a great weekend!
