“Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” Eph 6:11
We are heading into another week of learning, and this one will be slightly shorter for our students. On Thursday and Friday, staff will be engaged in training as well as curriculum development and practice flowing from the Compass Reformed Educators Conference. While these days follow a different rhythm, they represent important work as we seek to serve Him faithfully.
Today marks the final day for Miss Kristen Van Iperen in Grade 1 and Miss Lauren VanLeeuwen in Grade 3. We have been blessed to have them as part of the JCCS community over the past three weeks and pray that their time with us has been enriching. We wish them strength and the Lord’s blessing as they return to CCRTC to continue their studies.
On Sunday, Miss VanderLaan hopes to celebrate her birthday. We wish her a joyful day and the Lord’s continued blessing in the year ahead. We trust she will find a moment to celebrate with her class as well.
This week also brought some excitement as our Tripleball teams participated in exhibition games with ACRES. We are seeing excellent volleys and strong teamwork. We look forward to the upcoming tournament at Guido on November 28.
Have you seen our tree? The tree in the foyer is adding leaves by the day. While leaves are falling outside, our tree is in full bloom! Come on in and take a peak! Ask your child about it!
Finally, we anticipate connecting with you at the parent-teacher conferences. Progress reports will be sent home this afternoon. These conferences play a vital role in fostering strong communication about the educational growth of the covenant children we are privileged to partner with you in teaching. We look forward to these conversations.
That is all for this week. May God grant you a restful, rejuvenating, and blessed weekend as we gather for worship.

Kindergarten
We started the week off with a couple of snowy days. The children enjoyed playing outside and did a great job getting themselves dressed in their winter gear. Wednesday was our first time going skating and everyone was excited. They all had so much fun and can’t wait for our next turn again. Thank you to the parents who came to help! We are continuing to learn two new letters each week and are getting into a good routine with this. Singing our Jolly Phonics song has become a favourite, maybe you’ve heard your child singing this at home. Next week we will continue to hear about Joseph and Pharaoh’s dreams. Report cards come home today; please make sure you sign the envelope and send it back to school. We are looking forward to meeting with you all for interviews on Monday and Wednesday. Have a wonderful weekend and a blessed Sunday! MV/DV
Grade 1
Grade 1A said goodbye to our student teacher, Miss VanIperen, this week. We pray that her time with us has been fruitful and that she continues to be blessed in her teaching journey. In Church History, we have continued learning about the worship service, focusing on the tasks of the minister, elders, and deacons, and how God uses them to care for His church. We also explored how Christ is the Head of the Church—what a solid foundation! In reading, students have been enjoying the stories in our reader. It is rewarding to see their excitement as they decode new words and recognize familiar sight words with growing confidence. Next week, we will be going skating and look forward to the help of the Grade 7 students. What a blessing it is to experience their love and service! We are also looking forward to meeting with parents next week to discuss the children’s progress and celebrate their growth.
Grade 2
Another full and busy week has flown by in grade 2! We started the week with some wintry weather and the students were able to enjoy some sledding on Mount Calvin. Some spare socks and mittens might be handy for students to keep in their backpacks as there were a lot of wet feet this week! On Tuesday, we had a Remembrance Day assembly and were reminded of the sacrifices made for the freedom we enjoy today. Book Month continues and Grade 2 is adding lots of red leaves to the tree – keep up the great reading!! Next week, we anticipate some fun buddy reading with grade 7. Progress report cards go home today and we look forward to meeting with the parents next week to discuss your child’s progress and how we can best work together to support each student’s needs.
In the midst of all the “extras,” our regular learning has also continued. We heard more about the work that Jesus did while he was here on earth: the parables he told, the miracles he performed and the disciples he called. We are wrapping up chapter 3 on geometry and shapes in math. We are reading the last few stories in our “Bedtime Tales” reader. The students have greatly enjoyed these tales, especially the ones that involve a trickster!
Enjoy your weekend and we wish everyone a blessed Sunday! MB/LS/BS
Grade 3
Grade 3B says goodbye to Miss Vanleeuwen. We wish her all the best as she heads back to school. In church history, we are looking at the Church as a body of believers, with Christ being our Head. Over the course of our unit we will look at how the members work together and share in each other’s joys and sorrows. Our science lessons continue to cover various types of forces: gravity, magnetism, friction, and static electricity. The students have done a number of experiments and are in awe at God’s mighty power. Subtraction is the focus in math and students are encouraged to practice their facts at home.
*No spelling words this week*
Memory Work: Psalm 15: 1; Genesis 49: 10
Grade 4
Learning is happening in Grade 4. The students have been busy learning about the life of Solomon. Grade 4A measured how long and wide the temple of Solomon would have been…54 meters long and 27 meters wide. How amazing it would have been to be there while the temple was being built…IN COMPLETE SILENCE. In math the students wrote a math test and have switched gears to geometry. We will be spending quite a bit of time learning lines, shapes, angles, and shapes. It’s always an interesting unit. In social studies the students are continuing to learn about the beautiful country that we live in: Canada. The students are working on their research project on a province. Next week will be a short week with two days for PD days. Please remember to bring in magazines or pictures for the art project that we will be working on this week.

Grade 5
It’s been another productive week! Many of our purple leaves are being added to the tree in the lobby, and DEAR time is always enjoyable, when everyone is so absorbed in their books that the classroom is silent aside from pages turning. We look forward to buddy reading with grades 3B (5A) and 4B (5B) next week. Grade 5A looks forward to beginning the first novel study, Call it Courage, next week. We have begun learning and practicing volleyball in phys. ed., and the students have been doing well with the responsibility of setting up and taking down the nets carefully. We continue to learn more and more about Jesus’ ministry, including the amazing miracles He did, displaying the authority and power He has as the Son of God.
Devotions for next week are, for 5A: Eden (M), Jackson (Tu), and Noa (W), and for 5B: Quinn (M), Landon (Tu), and Gabriel (W).
Have a wonderful weekend, and we look forward to seeing you all next week! CDV/KV
Grade 6
The students have completed a productive week. They have started writing rough copies of paragraphs for the bird research project. In math they completed a variety of questions multiplying numbers with decimals which they found challenging. The progress reports are going home today, and we look forward to discussing your child’s progress thus far and how we together as parents and teachers may assist your child to reach their full potential. A note went home today about two upcoming events. We go skating on the afternoon of Nov. 26, and we also have a field trip to the warplane museum on Nov. 28. See the email for more details! Have a blessed weekend. CVA BK MJ
Grade 7A
We continue to apply what we learned in our science unit, “Structural Strength and Stability:, as we add the finishing touches to our stir stick bridges. After learning about climate graphs in physical geography we will move on to global and local climate factors. Martin Luther has joined the Augustinian Order and sequestered himself in a monastery, will he be able to earn his own righteousness or will the LORD reveal to him the comfort of Romans 3? Enjoy your weekend.
Grade 7B
This past week, students wrote two French quizzes conjugating -er verbs. There was an opportunity for the students to rewrite if they wanted to improve their marks. While most students did very well, some students are reminded to study at home before the quiz. We will wrap up Chapter 3 in our history textbook with a test on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, November 19, we will be heading to the arena for our first skating! We will also accompany the grade 1 class, so students will be spending the afternoon on the ice! This will be a great start to the extra-long weekend! Enjoy! RK
Grade 8
This week was a full and active one in Grade 8. Extra-curricular activities included our visit to the Cenotaph for Remembrance Day, Tripleball practices and exhibition games against ACRES, as well as Poinsettia fundraisers and skating.
Next week, we look forward to a shorter three-day week as teachers have PD days on Thursday and Friday. Students will have a Church History test on Tuesday and a Math test on Wednesday. Progress reports go home today, and we look forward to parent-teacher interviews next week Monday and Wednesday as we discuss each student’s progress.
Next week will also be the final week for Ms. Van Iperen and Ms. Lof. It has been wonderful having them in the classroom—teaching, observing, and assessing. We wish them the LORD’s blessing as they complete their final few days.
Enjoy your weekend! RT/TB/MVI/CL
