“Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” Eph 6:11

We had a shorter week with an added snow day, yet we still enjoyed a wonderful soup lunch on Thursday provided by the Ladies Auxiliary. It was a perfect treat for a wet day, and we were spoiled with many delicious flavors. Thank you so much!

On that same day, our Public Speaking finalists traveled to ACRES for the regional competition. We are very happy to share that two of our students placed: Leena Schulenberg placed first in the Poetry category, while Holden Kingma placed second. Both students will move on to the provincial competition in Glanbrook this Friday evening, and we wish them both the very best.

A member of the Royal Canadian Legion also visited our school to deliver the results from the zone competition. We congratulate Madilyn denHollander for placing second and Yelena Stel for placing first. Yelena will also be moving on to the Provincial level.

It is also time for our annual Toonies for Anchor fundraiser. We expect to send envelopes home next week and hope to have all collections submitted by March 6th. It is a privilege to support Anchor Christian Homes and the vital work they do in caring for those with special needs.

Looking ahead, we are excited to host another Early Years morning this Friday. We are grateful to the dedicated volunteers who organize and execute these wonderful events. Finally, we celebrate Mrs. Blokker’s birthday this coming Saturday. We wish her God’s continued blessing in the year ahead.

I believe that is all for the week.  May God richly bless us as we move into the last week of February.

Kindergarten

Another short week with a PD day and an ice day! Thank you to the Ladies Auxiliary for still making soup day happen, it was enjoyed by all. We have entered into some pretty wet weather, another reminder to make sure your child has extra socks and pants at school. The children have been having fun exploring addition in math, they are showing a good understanding of this concept. We have resumed learning some new letters and everyone was excited with all that comes with that including letter art and “write the room”. Next week, we will hear about Joshua and the battle of Jericho during Bible. That’s all for now, we hope you have a wonderful weekend! MV/DV

Grade 1

Our 100th Day of School was a resounding success! After a one-day delay, the very excited students were finally able to join us for our big celebration. The morning was filled with activity as students rotated through a variety of fun “100” stations. They worked together to build a 100-piece puzzle, created detailed pictures using 100 items, prepared goodie bags with 100 different snacks, counted how many rolls it took to reach 100, and carefully stacked a tower of 100 plastic cups.

The excitement didn’t stop in our classroom! Throughout the school, students searched high and low for 100 hidden pictures of Mr. VanIperen. If all 100 are found by the end of the day, the entire school will earn 10 extra minutes of recess at a future date. At the time of writing, 91 pictures have already been discovered — so close!

A heartfelt thank you to the parents who dressed their little centenarians so creatively, to those who generously volunteered their time, to the moms who baked delicious cupcakes, and to our Board Chairman for surprising us with 100 Timbits. Your support helped make the day extra special.

Looking ahead, next week brings our final skating session. We plan to skate independently this time, without our wonderful Grade 7 helpers. They have supported us so faithfully, and thanks to their help, we are ready to show how much we’ve learned! We would greatly appreciate parent volunteers to assist with tying skates so we can get everyone on the ice smoothly and quickly.

It has been a joyful and busy season in our classroom!

Grade 2

Grade 2 enjoyed a fun, short week this week thanks to Family Day. They were excited to have Monday as a PD Day, but quite pumped to have Wednesday off as an ice day too. In Church History we’ve started with the stories of John Chrysostom and how he became the bishop of Constantinople. The students like the stories about him, and the people of Antioch. In math we are adding and subtracting double digit numbers, and reviewing reverse operations. Soup was enjoyed by all (almost all ;)). Thanks to those who put in the time for us to enjoy that!! Have a great weekend!

Grade 3

Who is Rev. deCock?  We will be hearing stories of how the LORD used him to gather and reform His church in The Netherlands. We continue to multiply in our math classes.  Please continue to practice your multiplication tables at home, grade three. Thursday was soup day!  Thank you to the ladies for serving us yummy soup. Next Wednesday, we will be going skating from 1:15-2:15.  Students are required to wear helmets.  Please join us!

Psalm 108:1

Deut 18:18

Please check your child’s agenda for the spelling words.

Have a blessed weekend.

Grade 4

Life in Grade 4 has been a lot of fun, and we are in the middle of some great learning! Our unit on measurement is proving to be especially engaging. There are so many ways to measure, and although keeping everything organized and labeled may not always be perfect, experimenting has helped us make meaningful connections to everyday life.

In Science, we have been exploring the world of sound. Students have been learning about vibrations, pitch, frequency, and how we interact with sound. This connects beautifully to music and instruments, and we look forward to more discussions, demonstrations, and experiments related to noise and sound pollution.

In Art, we will be creating Illuminations inspired by our Medieval Times studies. These will be used as placemats for our Medieval Day, scheduled for Friday, March 27, 2026. A package with more information about this special day will be sent home today. We would love for students to dress up, and we are also looking for help in preparing a feast. Please read through the package carefully and return your preferences as soon as possible so we can continue planning. To keep things fair, selections will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Thank you in advance for your support in making this much-anticipated day a success!

Finally, due to this week’s snow day, our previously scheduled skating trip has been moved to Wednesday, March 4, 2026, from 12:15-1:15 PM.

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!
Let’s go, Team Canada!

Grade 5

Our very short week flew by! We hope you all enjoyed the holiday on Monday and the extra day off on Wednesday. Thank you very much to the Ladies’ Auxiliary for being willing to move Soup Day and for the delicious soup and buns we could eat on Thursday! 5A has started the next unit in math about multiplying and dividing with decimals. 5B is still working on the chapter about 2-digit divisors. 5A will be having a French quiz on the pizza vocabulary on Thursday. In Bible, our stories continue through the end of Jesus’ ministry as the time for His suffering and crucifixion approaches.
Devotions for next week are:
5A – Autumn (M), Avalon (Tu), Levi (W), John Paul (Th), Eden (F)
5B – Hailey (M), Macy (Tu), Kenzie (W), Brynlee (Th), Quinn (F)
Have a great weekend! CDV/KV

Grade 6

Bible/Church History: We’ve started to dig into the Islam faith – where it came from, what it believes, and how we as Christians can communicate productively with those of a different faith.

Math: Fractions are our most recent challenge, and we will continue to practice getting quicker at simplifying fractions to their lowest form!

L.A.: As we continue to dive further into Underground to Canada, students will continue deepening their understanding of the injustices of slavery.

French: We’ll continue looking at family units in French, and will continue to develop a family “album” that describes our family members!

Science/Social Studies: Our exploration into electricity is nearing a close.  We have been discussing how we can conserve energy, and will look at the different electronics that the Lord has blessed us with!

Phys. Ed.: We’ll be wrapping up our ball hockey unit and beginning to practice some basketball skills over the next number of weeks.

Enjoy your weekend!

Grade 7A

We welcomed Ms. I. Ravensbergen from the CCRTC into our classroom this past week. She is in her third year of the Diploma of Teaching program. We look forward to working with her over the next five weeks; a change is always nice. We learned about the unique character of the Swiss Confederation in Church history. Over the next weeks we’ll discover how the Lord used Ulrich Zwingli to promote the reformation among the cantons. Next week we’ll wrap up our study of rates, ratios and proportions. Enjoy your weekend.

Grade 7B

Another week gone?! With the holiday and weather cancellation, we have had limited French classes. Next week we hope to continue practicing the chapter 5 vocabulary. Students can expect a quiz on Wednesday. It is very important for students to study for these quizzes; please remind your children to spend some time on it. We hope to start a new L.A. unit under the direction of Miss Ravensbergen, the student teacher in 7A. We will turn one of the MosDos short stories into a graphic novel! Thanks to those who have sent Kleenex boxes to school! If you haven’t yet, please consider sending a box as we tend to use them up very quickly 🙂 Have a great weekend! RK

Grade 8

Another week comes and goes in Grade 8. A number of quizzes and assignments were completed this week and we look forward to a relatively normal week considering the chaos of the previous two weeks. Congratulations to Leena Schulenberg and Holden Kingma who both progressed to the provincial public speaking contest next week Friday.  Next week, students can look forward to a Geography test next Thursday/Friday. Enjoy your weekend!
