“Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” Eph. 6:11
The final week of February is now behind us. With term reports and parent interviews completed, we step fully into Term 2. March Break is on the horizon, and with more sunshine and warmer days, the first hints of spring are beginning to appear.
This week, Grades 1 and 3 enjoyed their third skating session of the year. It was encouraging to see how much progress our students have made over the season, evident by the growing number of unused skating helpers along the boards. Well done! Next week, Grades 4 and 6 will have their turn.
The Grade 5 teachers have asked us to share a request: they are looking for shoeboxes for an upcoming diorama project. If you have any to spare, please send them along with your child.
Basketball practices continue, and the teams are looking forward to participating in friendly exhibition games next Tuesday.
Today, the school gym was filled with little ones as we hosted another successful Early Years morning. These gatherings provide a wonderful opportunity for mothers and children to build friendships and connections within our school community. A special thank-you goes to the many helping hands who faithfully organize and host this event each month. Danyse, Nicole, and the entire promotions committee, your time and effort are greatly appreciated!
Last Thursday, our Public Speaking finalists traveled to ACRES for the regional competition. We are pleased to share that two of our students placed: Leena earned first place in the Poetry category, and Holden placed second. Both students will move on to the provincial competition in Glanbrook this evening, and we wish them every success.
Last but not least, if you happen to see Mrs. Blokker this weekend, be sure to wish her a happy birthday, she celebrates on Saturday!
I believe that is all for this week. May God richly bless us as we move into the first week of March.

Kindergarten
We enjoyed a full three day week in both classes! This week, we learned about the letters l and r and continued practicing writing and reading using all the letters we have learned so far. On Wednesday, we visited grade 3 to watch a video about Anchor Home and the ways we can help support them. There is 1 more week to return your toonies for Anchor envelope. We wrapped up our Bible stories about Joshua, learning how the walls of Jericho came tumbling down, and we had fun singing a song to go along with the story. Next week, our stories will focus on Gideon and Samson. Kindergarten has been enjoying the warmer temperatures at recess; with it comes melting snow and wet clothes. Please send in extra clothes and socks if you have not already done so. Have a great weekend! DV/MV
Grade 1
Wow — we were able to have a full, regular school week, and we accomplished quite a bit!
In Bible, the children heard the story of the Israelites asking for a king so they could be like the nations around them. They had forgotten their heavenly King. In His mercy, God gave them a king — Saul. We will continue to see whether King Saul would truly be a king after God’s own heart.
In reading, we wrapped up Unit 2 and are excited to begin Unit 3 with brand-new stories to explore — fables! It will be fun discovering what each fable means and what lessons they teach.
In math, we have been working on fact families and strengthening our understanding of how numbers are connected.
This past Wednesday was our final skating trip of the school year. Wow — the children did an amazing job skating around the arena! They did so without skating helpers and grade 7 students. It is so great to see their accomplishments! A big thank you to all the parents who came out to tie skates and skate with us. And thank you, Mrs. Nobel, for driving us to and from the arena.
It has been a wonderful week!
Grade 2
Seems like our weather was a little bit of everything this week, leaving a lot of students soggy during their lessons. Please remember to send extra socks and clothing with your child. In Church History this week we finished off our lessons about John Chrysostom, and worked our way to and through the lessons on Polycarp. In Math we continue to work through adding – double digits, and focus our attention on regrouping or carrying numbers. We look ahead each day to our Zimbabwe unit in Social Studies. Thanks to the parents who passed along their ‘Happy birthdays’ in 2A. Hope you have a great weekend, and a blessed Sunday.
Grade 3
Thank you to all the parents who came out and joined us on Wednesday. We’re thankful that we have had three sessions of ice skating. Thank you also to our bus drivers for bringing us to and fro safely. Ask your child how the LORD used Rev. deCock to reform His church in The Netherlands in 1834. Check your child’s agenda for a test that will be coming up. In math, we continue to multiply bigger numbers. We are learning to regroup the ones, tens, and hundreds. That’s it for now.
Psalm 47:2
Text: Joshua 24:15
Please check your child’s agenda for the spelling words.
Grade 4
Just like that, we are at the end of February! The days are getting longer, and we are excited to “spring forward” on March 8.
Next week in Grade 4B, we look forward to having Miss van Vliet enjoy her induction week. This means she will be teaching almost the entire week. It has been a blessing to have her in the school and in our classroom.
In Bible class, we will be learning about the kings of Judah and exploring the history of God’s covenant children through them.
On Wednesday, March 4, 2026, from 12:15 p.m. to 1:15 p.m., we will be going skating since we missed our last outing due to a snow day. Students are reminded to wear a helmet, and all parents are welcome. We hope to see you there!
In Language Arts, we will continue our study of medieval times. This has been a wonderful experience and has helped build excitement for Medieval Day on Thursday, March 26, 2026. A big thank you to Mrs. Alicia Bratcher for her extra efforts in helping with this – it is greatly appreciated!
Lastly, thank you to everyone who has returned the “Toonies for Anchor” envelope.
Have a fantastic weekend, everyone!

Grade 5
After a couple grey and gloomy days, we welcomed the warm sunshine this week! Both classes are coming to the end of our Bible and Science units, meaning that both 5A and B will have a unit 4 test on Friday. In science, students will be researching a disease and the effects that it has on the different body systems that we have been learning about. We look forward to hearing these presentations! We are over halfway through The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and so we are looking for shoeboxes to be brought to school so that we can use them for our upcoming dioramas. If you have one, or even more, please send them to school with your child! 5B will be having a French quiz on the pizza toppings on Thursday. If your child is in 5A, please consider sending a kleenex box to school with them as we have been going through them very quickly! Devotions for next week are as follows:
5A: Jackson (M), Quinn (Tu), Noa (W), Edwin (Th), Julia (F)
5B: Landon (M), Gabriel (Tu), Veda (W), Ivan (Th), Payton (F)
Have a blessed weekend! CDV/KV
Grade 6A
In Church History, we explored the origins of the Crusades and completed an extensive map assignment to help students become more familiar with Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East during that period.
In Science, we concluded our unit on Electricity with a fun and interactive lesson highlighting the invention and use of electronics — Pong tournament included!
This week in Math, students began a new unit on fractions.
For our novel study, students wrote a journal entry reflecting on Julilly’s impressions of the new plantation.
Students are encouraged to review and become very familiar with their memory work, vocabulary, and spelling words.
Our third and final skating excursion will take place this coming Wednesday at 1:15 p.m.
Have a blessed weekend,
CVA MJ
Grade 6B
Bible/Church History: Our exploration of Islam continues, and we’ll begin to tie that study into the history of the Church throughout the first millennium AD.
Math: We will be wrapping up our first unit on fractions this week, and then quickly diving into another!
L.A.: Barbara Smucker’s Underground to Canada is a helpful starting point for many meaningful conversations in the classroom. We continue to read through the first few chapters of this novel.
French: Describing a friend in French can be difficult! Students have practiced this using quick sketches, and will continue developing this by drawing and describing family members.
Art: We’re taking a look at the element of art that is space. We’ll be creating our dream bedroom space using one-point perspective over the next few weeks!
Phys. Ed.: We’ve just begun our unit on basketball, and we hope to continue this over the next little while.
Please note that grade 6 will be skating on Wednesday at 1:15. If you would like to join us, please let me know. The “Toonies for Anchor” fundraiser has also begun – please consider sending along a few dollars to support our brothers and sisters at Anchor.
Enjoy your weekend!

Grade 7A
We ended the month wrapping up our science unit, “Thermal Energy and Heat Technology”, and celebrated by enjoying some ice cream. Our next unit will be, “Pure Substances and Mixtures.” In geography we’ll measure the impact of our natural resource use and be introduced to thematic maps. We’ll move on to game play in basketball and work on the transition from defence to offence. Ulrich Zwingli has become a reformer in Zurich and the Reformation will spread to other cantons; what will be the reaction? Enjoy your weekend.

We are finished with Chapter 7 Rates, ratios, and percent. We will begin a unit on measurement, beginning on Monday. The graphic novel has begun under the guidance of Miss Ravensbergen and we are looking forward to seeing what the students create in the coming weeks! Have a great week! RK
