“Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” Eph. 6:11
And just like that, we head into March Break. This week gave us a truly Canadian taste of spring: warm, wet, and cold all within a few days! To top it off, everyone arrived uniquely dressed for Tuesday’s School Spirit Day, which made for a wonderful start to the week.
Once we return from the break, we have several major activities to look forward to. The much-anticipated Medieval Day will take place on Thursday, and we are eager to see plenty of knightly spirit and a habit of nuns. I am certain that Miss Broersma and Mr. Reinink have much in store for the Lords and Ladies of grade 4.
On Friday, our basketball teams will head to Guido for the annual tournament. We share our sincere thanks with Mr. Reinink, Mr. Joosse, and the two Mrs. Tenhages for their dedicated coaching. May the Defenders do well! That same day, grade 1 will head to Agape Valley for their second attempt at the sugar bush. Their first trip was hindered by torrential rains, and while the teachers made the difficult call to stay back, hindsight proves it was the right decision. We hope the weather on March 27th is much more pleasant for the students. To round out a busy day, we will also host another Early Years morning on Friday and look forward to seeing many of you there.
Looking further ahead, mid-term interviews are scheduled for the week of April 7 through April 10. If you would like to request an interview, please email the office at office@johncalvinschool.com no later than April 2. Once all requests are received, the teachers will coordinate and schedule the specific times.
Wishing you all a refreshing and restful March Break.

Classroom News
Kindergarten
We were thankful to enjoy some warmer weather this week. It was such a treat to head outside without snow pants, mittens, and hats! We had fun visiting with other classes this week. The Grade 3 students performed the stone fox play in our classroom, we practiced our two concert songs with the Grade 1 classes, and we finished the week with buddy reading with the Grade 8 students. This week we finished our math unit on addition, and everyone did such a great job with this concept. After March break, we will begin learning about subtraction. You will find a Spring Break activity booklet in your child’s agenda. We encourage students to spend some time working through it over the break and return it to school after the break for a prize! The students have been buzzing with excitement for the upcoming March Break, and we can’t wait to hear about your adventures when we return. Enjoy a fun and relaxing March Break! DV/MV
Grade 1
This week, we finished a busy and fun time in Grade 1B!
In Bible class, we heard how David had to flee from King Saul and hide in different places. Even during this difficult time, David continued to trust in the LORD. It was a good reminder that the LORD cares for His covenant people wherever they are.
We also finished our Social Studies unit about famous Canadians with a test this week. The students worked hard learning about several people who helped shape Canada. We are now looking forward to beginning our next Science unit on everyday materials, objects, and structures.
The children looked fantastic on our “Dress Not for the Occasion” dress-up day. It was fun to see all the creative outfits!
Although it was disappointing to cancel our Agape Sugar Bush trip because of the large amount of rain, if all goes well, we will go on Friday, March 27.
Now the children (and their teachers!) are looking forward to March Break. We wish everyone safe travels and a restful break. Lord willing, we hope to see everyone again on Monday, March 23.
God’s blessings to you.
Grade 2
This week grade 2 has been working hard to finish their CKLA Unit 4. We have a few lessons left before we start our novel study. In Church history have been learning about Pelagius and Augustine, and their work for or against God’s Word. In Math we are working with double digit subtraction and regrouping. Please continue to practice math facts at home with your child. Grade 2 is looking forward to the March Break. Have a great week! 🙂
Grade 3
We wish everyone a wonderful March Break, both parents and students. May this time away from school be restful and enjoyable! When we return to school, Grade 3 students will pick back up with division in math. In science, we will jump into a new unit titled “Strong and Stable Structures.” While looking at the how, what, and why of structures, what a wonderful reminder it is to know that “the church’s one foundation is Jesus Christ our Lord.”
See agenda for spelling words.
Memory Work: Hymn 37: 1, 2; Psalm 23: 1-3 (2 weeks)
Grade 4
“Beware the Ides of March” – This famous quote from William Shakespeare refers to the warning given before the assassination of Julius Caesar. Perhaps you remember studying this well-known line. Thankfully, we have nothing to fear as we approach March Break, and we wish everyone a wonderful and restful holiday! However, the quote does remind us of the rich historical context behind it.As we continue reading King Arthur and the Round Table, we are noticing how the influence of Christianity, the history of England, the time period known as the Middle Ages, and even our lives today are all connected. We will celebrate this history together on Thursday, March 26, 2026, in the gymnasium with Medieval Day. We are looking forward to seeing all the wonderful costumes, food, and artwork displayed around the gym. Thank you to everyone for the help and preparation so far in making this a great success! On Friday, Mr. Reinink will be accompanying the Grade 7/8 women’s basketball team at a game. As a result, Grade 4B will have a substitute teacher for the day.
In Math, we are diving into the world of division. For some students this can cause a little anxiety, so please encourage and assist your child if they feel they are having difficulty. A little extra practice and reassurance can go a long way! Have a wonderful March Break, everyone! We look forward to seeing you again in 10 days.

Grade 5
And just like that, we’ve made it to March Break! On Thursday the students enjoyed watching The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe as a fun way to wrap up the reading of the novel. When we get back from the break, both classes will begin creating their diorama. Thank you to everyone who brought in a shoe box for this project! 5A will begin unit 7 in Math, learning geometry, while 5B will begin unit 6 on multiplying and dividing with decimals. On Thursday, 5A will have a quiz on the first four lessons of our unit on Ancient Egypt. Grade 5 has the pleasure of running the Spring Community Care Food Drive. It will be running from March 23 – April 2. Please consider contributing to this event, as it is a good way to support those in our community who are in need. Devotions for the next school week are as follows:
5A: Leah (M), Megan (Tu), Jasper (W), Gabe (Th), Autumn (F)
5B: Elias (M), Phoenix (Tu), Hailey (W), Macy (Th), Kenzie (F)

Have a restful March Break!
Grade 7A
As we head into the March Break we are so very thankful for the work we could do under the Lord’s care. After the Break is history, we’ll head out of the American Revolution and into the development of Upper Canada. We’ll be introduced to Thomas Talbot and John Graves Simcoe. Science will have us swimming in mixtures and pure substances and P.E. will have us developing our basketball game play. Enjoy your Break.
Grade 7B
Have a great March Break!

We hope that everyone has an enjoyable and restful week and we look forward to the final stretch of the Grade 8 year! RT/TB
