“Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” Eph. 6:11

Having wrapped up our theme of putting on the armour of God, we turn this weekend to the victory of Easter. The resurrection shows us that Jesus has already won the battle over sin and death; because of His finished work, we can stand strong in His armour every day. We don’t wear this armour to earn God’s love, but because He has already saved us by His grace. This Easter, we celebrate that the same power that raised Jesus from the dead is now at work in us, protecting us and giving us peace as we follow Him.

In school news, our basketball teams had an incredible showing at last week’s tournament, with all three making it to the finals. The boys and mixed teams brought home trophies, and the girls finished in an impressive second place! It is nice to see the talent and skill development that has happened over the last number of weeks. We extend a thank you to our coaches Mr. Reinink, Mrs. Tenhage, and Mr. Joosse for their hard work and dedication.

Looking ahead to next week, we are excited for Pancake Day on Wednesday. It is always a highlight for the students, who especially enjoy the “rip and dip” style of eating them with maple syrup! We are very grateful to the Ladies Auxiliary for providing this wonderful mid-week lunch.

You may also start hearing some “earworms” at home as students begin practicing for our school concert. The music already sounds marvelous, and we look forward to sharing our Ascension/Pentecost program with you on May 21 and 22. Additionally, we hope to welcome representatives from McNally House for an assembly this Thursday at 2:00 PM; parents are welcome to join us in the gym.

Wishing you all a blessed Easter weekend.

Classroom News

Kindergarten

This week started off warm and sunny, and KA enjoyed extra time outside for recess. We are getting very close to an exciting milestone—learning all the letters of the alphabet! To celebrate, we are looking forward to our upcoming Alphabet Party on April 15th. Please take some time to read through the newsletter and enjoy working on your child’s assigned letter together. These activities are a fun way to reinforce learning and build excitement as we wrap up this important unit. On Wednesday, we had our first school concert practice and the students did a wonderful job singing. This week our Bible stories focused on Easter, learning about Jesus’ arrest and crucifixion and we had lots of great discussions. Next week we will finish with the resurrection and then return to old testament stories. As we head into the long weekend, we take time to remember and reflect on the death and resurrection of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Have a blessed weekend! DV/MV

Grade 1

With the arrival of April showers, we’ve certainly experienced some very wet days this past week! Please remember to send an extra pair of socks in your child’s backpack so they can stay comfortable and avoid walking around with wet feet (or no socks at all 😉). In Bible history, we have begun learning about King Solomon. We discussed how he prayed for wisdom and was blessed with so much more from God. We also marveled at the beauty of the temple that Solomon and the people built and dedicated to the Lord. In reading, we continue to enjoy fables. Be sure to ask your child about the story of the mule who wanted to act like a dog—it gave us all a good laugh! In math, we are working on fractions, learning how they represent equal parts of a whole as well as parts of a set. Our winter art projects have been sent home, and signs of spring are now brightening our walls in the grade 1 hallways.

As we reflect on the Easter season, may our hearts be filled with wonder at Christ’s sacrifice. He humbled Himself, taking on our sins and bearing the punishment we deserve through His death on the cross. With joy and gratitude, we celebrate His victory over death—hallelujah!

Grade 2

In our Church History studies next week, we look forward to learning about John Calvin. We’ve finished working through our Zimbabwe unit in Social Studies, and Unit 4 -The Job Hunt- in LA.  The Students are looking forward to starting our Novel Study next week. In math we are again estimating and adding+subtracting double digit numbers. Grade 2 is looking forward to Pancake Day on Wednesday. That’s all for this week! Have a blessed weekend!

Grade 3

Looking ahead to the first full week of April, there will be a few tests: French quiz (3B, days of the week), Math test, Bible test, and spelling test. Keep an eye on the agenda for dates. We look forward to Pancake Day on Wednesday, RIP N’ DIP style. We wish you a wonderful Easter weekend, celebrating the wonderful gift of Jesus’ death for us and His resurrection. He has conquered the grave!

Memory Work: Psalm 65: 1; Psalm 23: 4-6 (two weeks)

Grade 4

After a very busy week with Medieval Day last week, it was nice to have a shorter, slower pace to the week. This doesn’t mean that the students were not working hard. In math the students began the dreaded unit on division. Many of the students are feeling overwhelmed with long division but having the steps written down using a mnemonic device such as Does McDonalds Sell Burgers? Really!!! has been very helpful. The students use this to help them remember what step comes next in solving the equation. Parents please set aside some time throughout the week to practice long division solving equations such as 97 ÷ 5. The more times the students practice this concept the easier it will become. IN Bible Grade 4B has completed their unit on the kings of Judah and Grade 4A will finish this unit on Wednesday with review on Thursday and a test on Friday. Have a wonderful weekend remembering the death and resurrection of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. FR/JB

Grade 5

Another productive week has flown by in grade 5! Students have been busy working hard on their dioramas, recreating many different scenes from The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. We will continue to work on the dioramas next week and look forward to seeing the students present their work. Our last Bible unit has lined up perfectly with Easter and students have been learning about the events of the week leading up to the death and crucifixion of our Saviour. How amazing it is that we can learn about and talk about the trials and sufferings that Jesus went through so that we can receive forgiveness of sins and the promise of eternal life. On Friday, 5A will have a mid-unit Bible test about these events as well as the death and burial of Christ. Devotions for next week are as follows:

5A: Jackson (Tu), Quinn (W), Noa (Th), Edwin (F)

5B: Veda (Tu), Payton (W), Malachi (Th), Sawyer (F)

We hope you all have a blessed weekend as we remember and celebrate the death of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ! CDV/KV

Grade 6A

This weekend we look forward to commemorating the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus. During this past week students were busy in Math adding and subtracting fractions. In Language Arts we hope to wrap up our novel study in the next two weeks. In French we are busy studying how to discuss clothing and items to wear. In Bible History we have begun a new unit on the story of Joseph. Through it all we continue to practice and prepare for our upcoming school concert in May. Have a blessed weekend! CVA MJ

Grade 6B

Enjoy your Easter weekend.  Spend some time reflecting on the most joyful and all-important victory that our Saviour has won!

BK

Grade 7A

We marched through the last month under the Lord’s care and blessing. Using Ps. 72 and 127 we are learning how Solomon’s reign foreshadows King Jesus’ glorious reign. Things have gotten dramatic in LA as we have been placed into groups and charged with finding a radio play to perform and record. Physical geography has us learning more about renewable resources and how to steward them. While we wait for the fields to dry up, in PE we’ll be introduced to handball. Enjoy your long weekend.

Grade 7B

Our first concert practice happened this week; we are getting there! We are still taking a break from regular memory work as we continue to learn the new concert songs.  Students have selected and begun to practice a radio play in language arts. Next week, they will add sound effects to their practices. We are nearing the end of the history chapter and will review the topics during the coming week in preparation for a test, although the date has not yet been determined. We will have a French quiz on Tuesday when we return. Although it’s not ideal to write on the first day after a long weekend, they have had plenty of time to practice and review the ER verbs, and vouloir. Have a great weekend! RK

Grade 8

A short week is behind us and we look forward to another short week ahead of us. This week we were able to welcome Hank and Eseme from Tall Real Estate to talk to us about purchasing our first house and the cost associated with that. Next week we will enjoy a regular week. Enjoy your long weekend celebrating the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
