“Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” Eph. 6:11
We welcomed a beautiful warm week! However, with the water on the fields and the excitement to be outside, the halls have frequently taken on the “delightful” aroma of damp, musty, dirty socks after recess. We’ll take it as a welcoming, if slightly pungent, sign of spring.
Another sure sign of the season is the start of baseball tryouts. We have many students jostling for a place on the team, and because of that high interest, we’ve been cleared to send a mixed team as well. We are very thankful for the support of the extra coaches who have stepped up to lead this group.
This coming week, Mrs. VanAndel celebrates her birthday. I’m sure the Grade 6 class is in for a treat! We wish her God’s blessings as she celebrates another year and pray that God will continue to bless her in her various tasks.
I believe that is all for the week!

Kindergarten
Another week has flown by in Kindergarten! Our Alphabet Party on Wednesday was definitely a highlight for everyone. It was fun to see all the creative costumes that matched each child’s letter. We also enjoyed a variety of delicious snacks and treats throughout the day. Thank you to all the parents for your support in helping your child with their costumes, snacks, and beautifully decorated letters. We will continue listening to Bible stories about David. We have just wrapped up our math unit on subtraction, and everyone did a fantastic job learning this new concept! Next week, we will start with teen numbers. Just a reminder that Open House and the Hike for Hospice is coming up on Friday, May 1st. KA students will attend school on Friday instead of Thursday that week. Please remember to send in an extra pair of pants and two pairs of socks for your child if you haven’t already done so. It is very helpful to have spare clothing after a wet and muddy recess. Have a wonderful weekend! DV/MV
Grade 1
We certainly enjoyed the lovely spring weather this past week. With the beautiful spring weather, we are sure you and your child are collecting money for McNally House, our community fundraiser. In our Bible stories, we learned about faithful King Asa, evil King Ahab, and God’s faithfulness. The children recognized the Bible stories about Elijah from our Easter concert last year. We finished our third reader in reading class. The children have learned so much during our unit on fables. Our fourth reader, The Green Fern Zoo, is up next, and we are looking forward to learning about many different types of animals. In science, we are enjoying our unit on materials, objects, and structures, with many hands-on activities—be sure to ask your child about what they’ve been exploring! Our classrooms have become especially “gezellig” with the addition of houses and yards, which we are excited to show off during Open House in a few weeks. Have a wonderful weekend!
Grade 2
We are looking forward to our exciting Detective Day next Friday – a dress up day filled with fun activities. We are still busy reading Nate the Great and look forward to finishing the story, and figuring out who took Annie’s missing picture! Since Grade 2 wrapped up their Church History unit , we are back on track learning about the new testament stories. In Math we have still been working hard with double digit subtraction and regrouping. In science, we continue to learn about Air, Water and the Environment. Please remember to send in Mission $ on Friday -if possible. Have a great weekend and blessed Sunday!
Grade 3
This week in Bible, Grade 3 will be learning about the building of the tabernacle and its furnishings. The Lord gave detailed instructions of how he wanted his place of dwelling to be. What a joy that while we are in our bodies, our earthly tents, we can celebrate that we also have the Spirit dwelling in our hearts. “That’s the happy news of Pentecost,” as we have been singing as we practice one of our concert songs. Yes, we are in full swing with almost all of the songs learned. We continue to practice those and polish them up so that we can perform for our parents and family members, but ultimately to praise the Lord! In math, we continue with various types of measurements. Science keeps us busy with strong and stable structures.
See the agendas for spelling words.
Memory Work: Psalm 43: 1, no text
Grade 4
The students have been enjoying the warmer weather this week and the rain hasn’t stopped them from enjoying the outdoors during recess. With all the rain that we have had many of the students are coming inside from recess with wet socks and clothes. If you haven’t already, can you please ensure that there is an extra pair of socks and pants in your child’s backpack? Both classes are wrapping up units in Bible, math and science. Our next unit in science is Habitats. One of the projects that the students will be working on is a triorama. Students will be assigned a habitat and then they design and create a triorama. Students are invited to bring items (such as sticks, miniature trees etc.) from home that would be helpful for them to create these trioramas. Also a reminder to practice the spelling words with your child. The spelling words are increasing with difficulty and the extra practice at home would be greatly appreciated. Have a blessed weekend. Grade 5
We enjoyed some beautiful, warm, and sunny weather this week! With the spring weather also comes a lot of mud and puddles. Please consider sending your child to school with an extra pair of socks in case their feet do get wet at recess. Both classes have wrapped up their dioramas and diorama presentations. It was so fun to see the students’ creativity and artistic abilities. You can look forward to seeing their wonderful creations at the open house in May. Looking forward to next week, both classes will be wrapping up our final Bible unit on the suffering, death, and resurrection of our Saviour. 5B will have their unit test on Thursday and 5A will have theirs on Friday. After the tests are complete, we will move on to our Church History unit on the early Christian church. On Wednesday we look forward to taking a break from our regular school activities and enjoying the play that the Guido students are putting on. The bus will leave at 9:30 and we will be back before the buses leave in the afternoon. Guido is providing pizza and other snacks for our enjoyment so students do not need to pack a lunch. 5B will also have their third quiz for Ancient Egypt on Friday.
Devotions for next week are as follows:
5A: Leah (M), Megan (Tu), Jasper (Th), Gabe (F)
5B: Hailey (M), Macy (Tu), Kenzie (Th), Brynlee (F)
Enjoy your weekend! CDV/KV

Next week, our class will begin reading the novel Lost in the Barrens by Farley Mowat. In Math, we will be focusing on integers, while in Science we will be wrapping up our unit with a study of the planets in our solar system and aiming to complete our Nebulae art project. We’re also looking forward to spending time outdoors playing ball. Additionally, please note that we have an upcoming field trip to Crawford Lake on April 30th. If you are interested in participating, please reach out to the teachers, and kindly remember that chaperones will be responsible for covering their own costs. Have a blessed weekend! CVA MJ
Grade 6B
Bible/Church History: We have jumped back into Bible history, where we are exploring how God’s covenant with Abraham continues through his son, Isaac.
Math: Students have come to a joyful discovery: they will never need to divide fractions! Instead, we “invert and multiply.”
L.A.: We’ve begun to plan out sequels to Ray Bradbury’s Dark They Were, and Golden Eyed, focusing on the creative writing process.
French: We’ll be looking at how we can describe our houses, and writing floor plans for each of our houses in French!
Science/Social Studies: As we wrap up our study of trade, we will begin to turn our focus to what we know about space!
Art: Students have begun some work with proportions, and we’ll practice these skills some more over the next little while.
Phys. Ed.: Having spent some time playing basketball, we will now turn our attention back to some cooperative games over the next few weeks.
Enjoy your weekend!

Grade 7A
We’ll wrap up our study of probability in math next week and transition over to personal finance. In science we’ll work with solutions and mixtures and learn about saturation, solubility and supersaturation. Things will get dirty in geography as we discuss how we use and misuse soil. As we wait for the fields and track to dry up, we’ll begin to practice our track and field techniques, beginning with high jump, inside the gym. Enjoy your weekend.
Grade 7B
Students have been working on a Bible project in which they learned about the furnishings of Solomon’s Temple. We hope to have their findings on display at the upcoming Open House. This week has been filled with reviewing math topics from earlier in the year, and we hope to move on to new material in the coming week. The Bully Boys is a novel we have been reading together about the War of 1812, which coincides nicely with our new unit in history class! With all the rain, the fields are very wet. Sending an extra pair of socks (or two) is highly recommended! Have a great week! RK
Grade 8
After a number of shorter weeks, a full 5 day week was welcomed as we inch closer to the end of the year. We are excitingly working on our Ottawa Logos, picking t-shirt colours, and choosing graduation texts as we prepare for the end of the year. We continue to work our way through our regular programming and next week will be a busy one. We will be finishing off our low order cooperative games presentations next week, a reading comprehension quiz on the Voyage of the Lucky Dragon on Tuesday, linear equation quiz on Wednesday, geography test on Thursday (8A)/Friday (8B). It will be a busy week! Enjoy your weekend!
