Things have been moving smoothly this past week. We have jumped right into our curriculum and begun unpacking our first units and learning materials. Chocolate bars flew out of the office and into homes, and funds are already returning to support our year-end trips. A huge thank-you goes out to our diligent salespeople for taking such pride in their efforts! We are also well underway in preparing our athletes for the upcoming soccer tournament and two cross-country meets.
Looking ahead, we kick off the week with Picture Day on Monday, and we look forward to seeing everyone looking their best! Class KB will have their photos taken on Tuesday. On Wednesday morning, we plan to hold our first fire drill of the year to help students build familiar safety routines.
Later Wednesday at 1:30 PM, Mr. Joel Pegg from the Ministry of Natural Resources will present to our grade 1 to 4 students ahead of our upcoming theme week: Fish. (Frankly, I can think of a number of our staff who are already eager to grab the Mike and share their own fish tales!)
Thursday brings two exciting field trips. Grade 4 will visit Rock Point Provincial Park to explore rocks and minerals, while grade 6 heads to the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum to enrich their science unit on flight.
To wrap up the week, we are hosting our first Early Years Morning this Friday at 9:30 AM. We invite parents and their preschool-aged children to join us in the gym for activities, stories, and playtime, which is a wonderful way for families to get acquainted with our community. Grade 1 will also round out Friday with their field trip to Safety Village.

Classroom News
Kindergarten
We had another busy week in kindergarten and are beginning to get familiar with the routines in our classroom. In Bible class we finished learning about the days of creation, and we were amazed at everything God created. Next week, we will be learning about Cain and Abel and Noah. On Wednesday we practiced bus safety drills, thank you to all our bus drivers for showing us how to stay safe in an emergency. We also enjoyed our first time in the gym playing games with both classes. We hope to begin our weekly Library next Wednesday! A reminder that picture day is on Monday for KA and Tuesday for KB. Please remember to return the “All About Me” papers back to the school if you have not done so yet. We hope you have a great weekend and Blessed Sunday! MV/DV
Grade 1
It’s hard to believe we’ve already finished the second week of school! Our students are settling into classroom routines nicely, and we’re enjoying getting to know one another more each day.
A quick reminder: If you haven’t already, please send in a spare change of clothes for your child to keep at school.
In Bible, we’ve been learning about the consequences of falling into sin as we explored the story of Cain and Abel, the Flood, and the Tower of Babel.
In Social Studies, we focused on bus safety, which tied in nicely with our bus evacuation drills on Wednesday. We then moved on to fire safety. Next week, we hope to learn about street safety and will enjoy a trip to the Safety Village in Welland on Friday! If the weather is nice, we will be eating lunch at the Safety Village, so please do not send a microwave lunch that day.
In Language Arts, we’ll spend one more week reviewing letter names and sounds before jumping into our Language Arts program.

Grade 2
Grade 2 has had a busy week! We wrote our first Bible test at the beginning of the week and practiced bus evacuation drills on Wednesday. In math we have looked at skip counting, graphs and patterns. The students have been enjoying the stories in our readers about the cat bandit – ask your child about what he has taken! In science, we have been taking a closer look at solids and liquids, talking about the ways in which they are the same and how they are different. Grade 2B is also learning their responsibilities in collecting the mission money. This is a task we will do every Friday for the year. Wishing everyone a relaxing weekend and a blessed Sunday! Grade 3

The weeks are already starting to fly by! It has been so nice to see everyone getting settled into our classroom routines again. The students are learning what our days look like, and our routines are coming along nicely. May the Lord bless our work together!
We have started our novel study of Sarah, Plain and Tall. As we read, we are learning about what life was like for families living in the prairie during the 1800s. This connects nicely with what we are learning about in Social Studies. Our upcoming trip to Westfield Heritage Village on October 27 will give us a chance to experience some of what life was like during this time period. We are looking forward to making connections between what we are reading, learning, and seeing on our trip!
In Math, we have been reviewing number sense and place value. We have also been working on rounding numbers to the thousands place.
In French, we have been working on some basic French greetings. The students are practicing how to greet one another and use French expressions in the classroom.

Grade 4
As summer officially comes to a close over the next week, we welcome the arrival of fall!
Each fall, we show our love for our neighbours by participating in a Community Care Food Drive. We kindly ask students to bring in non-perishable food items to donate to those in our community who use the food bank. Thank you for helping us care for others in our community!
Next week, our big event is our field trip to Rock Point. Thank you to all of the volunteers who will be joining us! We will be exploring the shores of Lake Erie, specifically looking at the rocks, minerals, fossils, and geography found there.
As part of the fun, students will have the opportunity to explore the shoreline in the afternoon following a BBQ lunch. Students have been asked to contribute $2.00 toward the BBQ. If you have not yet contributed, please do so.
Students are also welcome to swim if they would like to. Please ensure your child brings the appropriate clothing and supplies if they plan to swim.
Lastly, if your child has not yet purchased a recorder, please contact the school office.

Grade 5
It’s only week two, but grade 5 has already been very busy digging into content!
In Bible class, we have already heard stories about the time between the Testaments, all the way up to the stories of Simeon and Anna at the temple. Both 5A and 5B will be having a mid-unit Bible quiz this week. 5A’s quiz will be on Thursday, and 5B’s quiz will be on Wednesday.
In French class we have been reviewing basic French vocabulary. 5B will be having a small French quiz on classroom objects on Tuesday. 5A will be having a French quiz on Friday on the numbers 1-60, the alphabet, and the colours.

Grade 6A
We are back to school in full swing, as you can see by our schedule below! Next week Thursday we can look forward to our first field trip – the Warplane Museum in Hamilton! Please check your email for more information. There will be a “Welcome Home!” quiz on Wednesday, and a Spelling test (lesson 3) and Vocab quiz (word list 2) on Friday. Please remember to bring records for music class (Wednesday). Students will be bringing home their Science duotangs later in the week and can expect a quiz on lessons 1-3 early the following week. Grade 6B
Bible/Church History: We start our year by exploring the book of Genesis. Students have learned about the promise and obligation of a covenant, and will begin to explore how our covenant with God is broken again and again, as initiated through the Fall into Sin.
L.A.: Our first Language Arts unit is titled “My Floor is Somebody’s Ceiling.” This unit is about different perspectives, and students have begun to explore how others view the world.
Science/Social Studies: Students all designed and built successful phone holders for Mr. Kampen, but only one could be chosen as the champion (thanks to Mr. VanIperen, Mrs. Kelly, and Mrs. Rozema for judging)! We will begin to explore the mechanics of flight, especially in the creatures that God has created.
French: Our year begins with some review of previous concepts, and students can expect a short quiz about the days of the week, months of the year, and numbers on Wednesday.
Phys. Ed.: We will begin to develop our soccer skills this week. Feel free to bring soccer equipment to school. Students are also reminded to bring their Phys. Ed. uniforms every Monday and Thursday!

Grade 7
This week in Bible History we continued our study of the prophet Samuel and the start of his ministry in Israel. In Language arts we have discussed the difference between internal and external conflict and what kind of story that produces. Ask your child if they understand the difference between fahrenheit and celsius :). Students are continuing to learn about the development of New France under Cartier and Champlain and have (mostly) completed a summary of Cartier’s voyages. In Geography, we are learning about landforms and plate tectonics as we explore the incredible world God created.
On Tuesday, we will have our first vocab quiz on Word List 1. On Wednesday, students will be quizzed on l’alphabet français, and les numeros 1 – 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90.

Grade 8
This week we dove headfirst into all of our classes, and it was great to see students settle back into their regular routines. Next week will be mostly regular programming, as we have another full week ahead of us.
Our math test, originally planned for this Friday, has been pushed to next Tuesday. Students can also expect a French vocabulary quiz (#1–22) that same day.
On Thursday, the hand-written portion of our first major writing assignment is due, along with our first spelling test.
Soccer and cross-country practices continue next week as well. Enjoy your weekend!
