General News

Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. Ephesians 5:1-2

Another week has flown by! Highlights for our classes included a visit from Conservation Officer Joel Pegg, as well as field trips to the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum, Rock Point, and the Safety Village. Beyond the excitement of these outings, the steady rhythm of classroom learning continued with plenty of valuable growth, lessons, and insights throughout the week.

Looking ahead to Tuesday morning, the Greijdanus choir will join us in the gym at 8:15 AM for a half-hour performance. From what we understand, this will be their final international tour due to recent policy changes. We plan to begin our morning devotions shortly before 8:15 AM, and you are warmly welcome to join us.

On Thursday, October 1st, Rev. Atallah will be visiting on behalf of MERF (Middle East Reformed Fellowship) to give a presentation in the gym at 10:30 AM. You are invited to come hear firsthand about his work and witness how God’s providence continues to guide the spread of the gospel across the Middle East.

Our grade 4 class has also organized a school food drive in support of West Lincoln Community Care. After coordinating with WLCC, the students and teachers are encouraging everyone to participate by bringing in boxes of cereal. Before donating the collected food, the class hopes to build a giant cereal-box domino run through the school, so be sure to look out for their promotional posters around the building.

Finally, we look forward to hosting the annual Soccer Tournament this Saturday across both the JCCS campus and the Leisureplex. The complete tournament schedule is available here.

May the Lord richly bless and sustain your families in the week ahead!

Kindergarten

Another week flew by in Kindergarten! Wednesday was an exciting and busy day. We had our first visit to the library, and the students were very pleased to pick three books to take home for the week. We also had our first fire drill, and the children did such a great job following their teachers’ instructions. Well done! Our Bible stories next week will be about the Rainbow, Tower of Babel and God’s covenant with Abram. Everyone was amazed to learn about how much water would have covered the earth during the Flood. On October 7th, we will go on our first field trip to Mountainview Orchards. Please let your teacher know if you are able to join us on the trip. All the students have been enjoying our science unit on Our Senses! Next week, we will be doing some fun experiments involving smell and touch. Have a great weekend and blessed Sunday. DV/MV

Grade 1

Grade 1 had a busy week of learning. In Bible history, we heard about God calling Abram out of the land of the Chaldeans to the land He would show him. In reading class, we learned a few new sounds that will be a great help as we prepare to begin our CKLA program. We have come to the end of our Social Studies unit on Safety and look forward to beginning our first Science unit on Living Things next week, DV. This past Wednesday, we welcomed Mr. Pegg, a conservation officer, to our school. He spoke to us about caring for God’s beautiful creation and showed us many fascinating items—animal pelts, different types of turtle shells, snake skins, a carnivore as well as a herbivore animal skull, and even told us about his favourite kinds of fish. The children were captivated. If all went well, today was our trip to the Safety Village. Ask us how the day went—your child will surely have lots to share! Have a wonderful weekend.

Grade 2

Another week has flown by in grade 2! It was a week filled with lots of extra events such as picture day and a fire drill. On Wednesday afternoon, we could enjoy a presentation from Mr. Joel Pegg of the Ministry on Natural Resources. He spoke to us about his work as a conservation officer and showed us the gear he carries plus lots of furs, turtle shells, skulls and snake skins. Pretty cool! In addition to all of these special activities, we also managed to get a lot of regular work done too. We wrote our second Bible test and that wraps up the unit on the birth of Jesus. Our next units in Bible will focus on Jesus’ ministry here on earth. We are also wrapping up our first unit in math. That’s all for this week; enjoy your weekend! MB/LS/BS

Grade 3

We thank the Lord for giving us a beautiful week to serve and glorify him.

Our first Bible test is completed.  Please check your child’s agenda for the results. Well done, boys and girls!

In our math classes, we began a new unit on the topic of addition.

Who are the Anishinaabe?  Ask your child all about these people and how they lived.

On Thursday, we had our first library session.  Thank you to our librarian, Mrs. Bernice Lenting for assisting us and reading to us!

We also welcomed our new class mom, Mrs. T.J. Vanbrederode!  Thank you for volunteering for us this year!

Have a blessed weekend!

Psalm 50:1

Text:  Genesis 3:15

Please check your child’s agenda for the spelling words.

Grade 4

What a wonderful week we had once again! On Wednesday, we enjoyed listening to and learning about the MNR. The students loved seeing the furs and hearing about the rules and regulations regarding hunting, fishing, and trapping in Ontario.

Thursday was a fantastic day out at Rock Point on Lake Erie. What a blessing to have parents join us on these trips to explore God’s creation—some students were even brave enough to take a dip in the lake!

Next week, we kick off the Community Food Drive with a focus on cereal boxes, which we hope to set up for a giant domino effect at the end. In Art, we will play with lines to create optical illusions. In Math, we are wrapping up our unit on addition and moving on to how numbers are put together in our next unit on place value. In Bible, we will conclude our study of Samuel and Saul.

Please note that we will have our first tests in Bible, Math, and Science over the next couple of weeks. Grade 4 students should use the provided review sheets to prepare for their Bible and Science tests.

Have a fantastic weekend, everyone!

What a beautiful start to fall! We have been busy in grade five this week and enjoyed the amazing weather as we took our Phys. Ed classes outside.

Grade 6A

Grade 6 enjoyed a trip to the Warplane Museum in Hamilton this week – what a wonderful way to deep dive into our Flight unit of Science. We had the opportunity to see lots of planes, and even go into one – ask your children about what they learned! Students can expect a Science test on chapters 1-3 of this unit on Tuesday. There will also be 2 quizzes for French next week – on Tuesday, a quiz on days of the week and months of the year, and on Thursday another quiz on numbers. Please continue to be prepared! On Friday students will be tested on Vocab, Spelling, and Memory Work. Enjoy this first weekend of Fall!

Grade 6B

Bible/Church History: After a short quiz, students will begin to learn about the descendants after Adam that connect to Noah, which will bring us to the Flood.

Science/Social Studies: We’ve begun to learn about how human flight has been inspired by flying objects and creatures from God’s creation!  We were able to enjoy a wonderful day deepening our understanding at the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum this week; it was first-class!

French: Students have completed their first quiz, and we will continue to review previous concepts like colours, weather, and feelings.

Phys. Ed.: We will begin to develop our soccer skills this week.  Feel free to bring soccer equipment to school.  Students are also reminded to bring their Phys. Ed. uniforms every Monday and Thursday!

Grade 7

In math class, we will be working with factors and multiples, and the rules of divisibility.

Grade 7 will be having our first Science test on chapter 13 on Wednesday. Students can also expect a Bible test in the week of October 4. We have completed the first chapter of our history textbook. We will now learn about the fur traders and missionaries of New France.

Have a great week! MJ/RK/MVI/MVA

Grade 8

We have come to the end of another full week in Grade 8. Next week also promises to be a full week, as we reach the point in the year where a number of subjects close out their first chapters.

On Tuesday, students can expect their first Bible History test on the intertestamental period. Our science chapter on observing cells comes to a close next week, so expect a test on Thursday. On Friday, students can also expect our first full chapter math test, covering everything from Chapter 1.

We also have a couple of extracurricular activities next week. We look forward to a presentation by MERF on Thursday from 10:30–11:30 a.m., and to hearing the Greijdanus Choir performance on Tuesday from 8:00–8:45 a.m.

As we near the soccer tournament on October 3, a reminder to parents to leave that day open to help out with the concession stand — our first Ottawa trip fundraiser. Thank you to the organizers who are hard at work getting it all organized!

Enjoy your weekend!
