“Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.” Job 28:28
On Monday we celebrate Remembrance Day, commemorating the sacrifices that were made for the freedom that we have today. At JCCS we will be doing this in two ways. There will be an assembly for the kindergarten to grade 4 students at 10:30 in the gym. The grade 5 – 8 students will be walking over to the Cenotaph starting at 10:30 to participate in the Remembrance Day ceremonies there. Our piece in the program will be to sing a few hymns and lay a wreath. You are all welcome to join either the assembly or the trip to the cenotaph.
We have been enjoying Book Month here at JCCS. We have some road signposts up in the lobby of the school and we can see them begin to fill up. Be sure to ask your child about what they can do for reading month. I encourage everyone to take the time to do some reading with your children to celebrate this month.
Staff have been working hard to get the Progress Reports completed. They will go home on November 15th. You will get a link to register for interviews. We request everyone to sign up for these interviews as they are important in shaping the year of learning.
This week we will be celebrating some birthdays as well. We congratulate Mrs. E. Vis (EA who will celebrate her birthday on Tuesday. Mrs. Bartels will celebrate her birthday on Thursday. I am sure the grade 7 class will have some sort of celebration. Finally, Miss VanderLaan will celebrate her birthday on Saturday. We wish everyone God’s continued blessings in the various tasks and roles in which God has placed them. We have much to be thankful for.
Wishing you God’s blessing and care in the upcoming week.

Kindergarten
Another week has flown by in Kindergarten. The children have been busy learning about the different seasons and the changing weather. In our Bible story, we heard about Joseph and his colourful coat and his two dreams. Ask your child if they can remember what Joseph’s dreams meant. We look forward to book month and all the special activities that we get to do. Make sure you’re reading lots of books for the book bingo that was sent home this week. Also, start thinking about ideas for book character dress up day. We plan to go skating on Nov. 20, if you are able to join us to help, please let us know! A reminder that there will be a Remembrance Day assembly on Monday at 10:30. Have a great weekend. MV/DV
Grade 1
The children enjoyed their tour through the Smithville Canadian Reformed Church under the guidance of Rev. C. Swaving. Thank you for taking us on the tour, Rev. Swaving. It was with great excitement that we began our first reader in class. The joy written on the students’ faces when reading a story from our reader is beautiful to see. In math we have begun a unit about addition and subtraction. The children created a beautiful Remembrance Day poster. On Monday, we hope to have a Remembrance Day assembly. We are looking forward to the presentation.
Grade 2
In our Bible lessons this week, we learned about Jesus’ transfiguration and how he began to prepare his disciples for his death. In Math, we were reintroduced to the concept of measurement. As simple as measuring may seem, it takes a bit of practice using our rulers with accuracy. In Language Arts, we finished up our unit on Bedtime Tales, and we look forward to starting a new unit called “Kids Excel.” In this unit, we will be learning about the different ways that all children can grow in their talents and skills to also serve their Lord. Next week Wednesday is our turn to go skating! We are skating from 12:15-1:15. If you are able to meet us at the arena, that would be great! We would love to have parents there to tie skates and help with skating! Have a great weekend! MB & BV
Grade 3
November is Reading Month. We look forward to spending time in books, buddy reading, and a book character dress up day on Tuesday, November 26. Oh, the places we’ll go! We finished our Bible unit with a test on Friday. Next week we hope to switch to Church History. Church Life is the new topic. Math is all about subtraction strategies. Ask us about some different ways to subtract numbers. Grade Three is going skating on Wednesday, November 13 from 1:15-2:15. Helmets are required. Parents are invited to join us. Hope to see you there.

Another week has gone by quickly. Daily the students receive 10 short math questions as their quiz. This is to stay on top of the various things they need to remember. Each day they record the ones they need to study. Friday’s math drill consists of the questions they had wrong during the week. On Monday the students will be walking to the cenotaph and standing there for the Remembrance Day service. Please dress according to the weather and bring a donation for the poppy.
