60th Anniversary Celebration
We’re excited to invite you to our Celebration Day at JCCS on December 2nd at 10:30 a.m.! The day will kick off with a community assembly in the gym, where we’ll celebrate the history, challenges and blessings of JCCS. You’ll hear plenty of fond memories shared, and afterward, you’re welcome to stay for lunch and casual conversation as we continue to celebrate together.
We’d love for you to be a part of this special day by contributing your own JCCS memories. One way you can participate is by creating a short video sharing your favourite moments from your time here and sending it to me at principal@johncalvinschool.com.
Additionally, we’ll have JCCS toques available for purchase for $10, so be sure to grab one as a keepsake from this memorable event!
We can’t wait to see you there and share this wonderful occasion with you!

Grade 1
Grade 1 has had another full week of learning. We’ve enjoyed stories from our reader “Snap Shots” and have even begun answering questions about a story using a full sentence. In Science, we could marvel about God’s goodness in creating our bodies with 5 senses that allow us to explore His beautiful world. In Church History, we learned about the difference between church with a lowercase ‘c’ and Church with an uppercase ‘C’. We also learned about how Jesus is the Church’s one foundation. Today we have to say goodbye to our student teacher, Miss Lenting. We pray that the Lord will bless her in all her endeavors. We have certainly enjoyed having her in our classes! We look forward to meeting with you all next week in parent teacher conferences. Have a blessed weekend!
Grade 2
In Bible study this week we talked about Jesus being our good Shepherd and heard more about His stories and parables. In Science we looked at simple machines, starting with the inclined plane and the lever. Our highlight of the week was skating! Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who came to skate with us and help tie skates! Grade 2 is also looking forward to all the extra reading time they will have next week for the planned DEAR and buddy reading! Looking forward to seeing parents this week at the parent-teacher conferences. 😊 Have a great weekend and a blessed Sunday! BV&MB

We want to start by saying thank you to all the parents and friends who came skating with us this past week. We are thankful for the help with tying skates and joining us on the ice. Coming up this week, we look forward to buddy reading, as part of Reading Month. Keep reading lots at home, too! There will be a math test on Thursday to complete our subtraction unit. We continue to work on our church history unit about the body of Christ. We have seen what a blessing the communion of saints can be and next we will look at the work of the elders within the congregation, as well as how members share in each other’s’ joys and sorrows. Next week is a short week, with a PD day on Friday and we look forward to meeting with parents for conferences on Tuesday and Thursday evenings to discuss the progress of the students. Have a lovely weekend.

Grade 6A
The students have completed a productive week. They have started writing rough copies of paragraphs for the bird research project. In math they completed a variety of questions multiplying numbers with decimals which they found challenging. The progress reports are going home today. We look forward to discussing your child’s progress thus far and how we together as parents and teachers may assist your child to reach their full potential. With the 60th anniversary quickly approaching we have an idea that we wish to share. Together with grade 5 we hope to have some of our students film a brief interview with a family member that has a connection to the early days of John Calvin. If you have any ideas let your child know! It would be a beautiful opportunity for students to connect with JCCS history.
Grade 6B
This week has definitely turned to much more seasonal temperatures. Inside the classroom the students have been very busy in all their subjects and we are wrapping up quite a few units. The students had their math test in Mrs. Oosterhoff’s class last week (please make sure to sign and return those) and next Tuesday they will be writing one for Mrs. VanEgmond’s math class. Also on Tuesday we will be having a presentation from Niagara Pen Energy. This will tie in nicely with both their social studies class and our next unit in Science which is Electricity. Which leads to the next test. We are almost finished with our Flight unit and we will be having our unit ending test on Thursday. Please encourage your child to spend a couple of evenings studying for this test. A quick 10-minute review will not be sufficient. Coming soon we will be celebrating 60 years of JCCS and each grade is doing a small bit for our assembly. Grades 5&6 are invited to interview a parent or grandparent or other relative that is an alumni of JCCS. They will come prepared with a few questions/prompts and we would love to have these interviews recorded. If you (or another relative) and your child are willing, please have the interview recorded and sent to either mike.joosse@johncalvinschool.com or kendra.vanderlaan@johncalvinschool.com. so we can compile them into a small presentation. Have a wonderful weekend and a blessed Sunday. SO/EV

In preparation for our part in the JCCS 60th, we’re designing symbols and patterns while we reflect on what JCCS represents. We’ll be introduced to a smart minor’s son from Eisleben, Saxony and how his father hopes for him to become a lawyer…. Enjoy your weekend.
