“Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.” Job 28:28
This week went by in a blur. We were thankful to have a strong connection between home and school. This was evident at parent-teacher conferences. We could share a conversation about the growth of the covenant children enrolled here at JCCS. May God continue to bless these conversations as we seek to serve him in all areas of our lives.
I am sure the highlight of the upcoming week will be Book Character Dress Up Day for JCCS. This is one of the highlights of Reading Month, although I must say that many students are coming up to me to speak about getting a bingo. If you do not know what that is, ask them.
On Friday our Volleyball teams will head out to Hamilton to play in the Tripleball Tournament. We wish them all well. We thank our coaches for their work.
May God bless us in the upcoming week.

60th Anniversary Celebration
We’re excited to invite you to our Celebration Day at JCCS on December 2nd at 10:30 a.m.! You’ll hear plenty of fond memories shared, and afterward, you’re welcome to stay for lunch and casual conversation as we continue to celebrate together.
We’d love for you to contribute your own JCCS memories to this special day. One way you can participate is by creating a short video sharing your favourite moments from your time here and sending it to me at principal@johncalvinschool.com.
Additionally, we’ll have JCCS toques available for purchase for $10, so be sure to grab one as a keepsake from this memorable event!

Kindergarten
Kindergarten was busy with their new units this week. We learned about the letter “m” and what sound it makes. The students also learned how to write the numbers 1-4, some of them were a little trickier than others. KB was able to enjoy a presentation on Tuesday about power and electricity. Both classes headed to the arena on Wednesday for an enjoyable time skating, the kids did great! Thank you to all of our volunteers who joined us. We heard about many dreams in our Bible stories this week. Ask your child if they can tell you one of them. Next week we are excited for our book character dress up day (KA Nov. 25) (KB Nov. 26). If you haven’t sent back the interview envelope yet, please do so as soon as you can. We hope you enjoy your extra long weekend! MV/DV
Grade 1
Thank you for coming and speaking with us at Parent Teacher Interviews. We value your encouragement tremendously. On Tuesday, we learned all about electricity and how to use it safely. This week we concluded our church history unit about church life with a test. Our next Bible unit will be about Moses and how he was used by God to lead His people to the promised land. You may have noticed new tricky words on our ring. Continue to practice these words as it will help us read them in our reader. Next week, we have some fun things happening. On Tuesday, we have book character day, so dress up as a favourite character. On Wednesday, we hope to go skating from 12:15 – 1:15. Helmets are a must! Looking forward to seeing you there to help tie skates and have some fun skating with your child.
Grade 2
It was so nice to see so many parents this week at the parent teacher meetings. 🙂 In Bible study this week we talked about Jesus reminding us to put others before ourselves and heard
more about His stories and parables and how he continued to heal people. In Science we continue to learn about simple machines, and movement, and spent some time searching the
classroom for different machines, as well as identifying them in our neighbourhoods. Grade 2 has been enjoying and looking forward to more of all the extra reading time they have been getting for Reading Month and the DEAR days. They are very excited about dressing up on Tuesday for Book Character Day. Have a great weekend and a blessed Sunday! BV & MB
Grade 3
It was good to meet with you this week. What a blessing it is to work together. May the Lord bless our conversations and plans for His glory. In Math, we finished our unit on subtraction and now move on to multiplication. In our Church History classes, we continue to hear how Jesus Christ is the head of the church and that we are the sheep of His pasture. Ask us about the communion of saints. Just a heads up that next Tuesday is book character dress up day! Can’t wait!!
Have a blessed weekend.
Hymn 17:1,3

It’s the end of a short but busy week here in grade 4! Thank you to all of our parents for taking the time this week to meet with us, your child’s teachers, to discuss your child’s progress report. We have the privilege of working with your wonderful, covenantal children and conferences are a lovely opportunity to connect with you to help us steer the year ahead! We had buddy reading with grade 8 this week – very enjoyable! Grade 4A enjoyed doing buddy reading with grade 8B and 4B with 8A! Thanks for reading with us! Next week Tuesday is Book Character Day – maybe the students can use a bit of their day off tomorrow to decide who they want to be! We are looking forward to seeing their creative costumes! Also, next week, grade 4B will be wrapping up their science unit on Rocks and Minerals with a review on Thursday and the test on Friday. 4B will soon learn how to play a recorder – a musical milestone many parents look forward to in their homes! The green recorder booklets that will be sent home can stay at home, your child will need this to practice their weekly recorder song. Enjoy your long weekend!

We really enjoyed the Energy & Electricity Safety and Conservation presentation from NPE! The demonstrations were very interesting, and, on the way back to the classroom, many of the students were practicing how to jump (and shuffle) to safety if their car hits a hydro pole. We also enjoyed the opportunity to go skating on Wednesday. Grade 5A will be having a Unit 2 Bible test on Tuesday and Grade 5B will have a Bible test on Friday. It was a pleasure to meet with the parents this week to discuss their child’s progress. This weekend the students get to enjoy some extra time with the PD day on Friday. The students have started typing some paragraphs for their research project. This week the recent Bible Tests were returned. Check in on what your child has achieved and please sign the test and return. Looking ahead to next week, don’t forget to dress up on Tuesday! Next week the class will be going to the Canadian Heritage WarPlane Museum on Thursday. Please do not bring microwavable foods on that day. Have a blessed weekend. CVA MJ
Grade 6B
Here we are again at the end of another very busy but short week. The presentation on Tuesday from Niagara Peninsula Energy was enjoyed by the students and it was a great sneak peek at our next Science unit. The Flight Science test was postponed until next Wednesday just to make sure the students had adequate time to properly study for this test. Duotangs have gone home today and the students have been encouraged to study a bit each night until next Wednesday when they will have their test. Thursday will see us at the Heritage Warplane Museum, a highlight the students are very excited for. Thank you, parents, for coming to the conferences. It was good to connect and talk to you all about how your child is doing thus far. If there are still any report card envelopes at home, please send them back to school ASAP. Have a wonderful long weekend and a blessed Sunday. SO/EV

As the seasons change and the days/weeks go by, we continue with applying excellence to the ordinary. As we return to work next week, we’ll present our JCCS 60th Anniversary flags to our peers and decide on the best presentations. We’ll also move on to a new idea in Gr. 7 language arts; graphic novels as they’re applied to the short stories we’ve read. Our history projects continue with interviews, brochures and models all relating to New France. In church history we’ll learn about “sola scriptura”. Our progress relating to the science fair was shared; please continue to be involved with your child’s progress. Next week we’ll apply formal balance to our masks as we paint them. Enjoy your weekend.
Grade 7B
Grade 7 has been busy beginning to work on their history projects. They’ve been working well together to research and are now applying that to create something. We’ve started a new unit in math about integers after completing a test on Tuesday. We’ve also been having some great discussions in Church History pertaining to Martin Luther which I look forward to continuing with next week! Wishing everyone a lovely long weekend!
Grade 8
Another week is done as we come to the last full week of November. Hard to believe that we are only 4 weeks away from Christmas holidays! A thank you to all the students who put the work into our Poinsettia fundraiser. Next week Friday will be the delivery day, so those students who are not at the Tripleball tournament will be helping organize the orders in the morning. On December 4 (two weeks away), we look forward to Grade 8 skating. We do ask that each student wears a helmet, whether they are playing hockey or not. It does not have to have a cage unless they are playing hockey. Either than that, next week should be a relatively “normal” week! Have a great long weekend! TB/RT
