Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.” Job 28:28
This past weekend, the JCCS choir, under the direction of Miss B, gave a wonderful performance at Lincoln Church. We also extend our thanks to Mrs. North for accompanying the choir on piano. Their music reminds us of the beautiful blessings we have in praising God. It also builds excitement as we begin preparing for the upcoming school concert. This year, we will present an Easter concert on April 16th and 17th. Stay tuned for more details!
Amidst the usual busyness of the school week, we are working diligently to finalize report cards. Assessments, grading, and preparing these reports require time, but they are valuable tools for guiding the growth and development of our covenant children. We are grateful that God grants these academic gifts, allowing us to learn more about Him and appreciate the blessings of education. May we glorify God and fear Him as we seek to faithfully serve Him through our work at JCCS.
Looking ahead to next week, we’re saddling up for School Spirit Day on January 23rd with a Western theme! Dust off those plaid shirts, tie on a bandana, and pull on your boots—and of course, no cowboy is complete without a trusty cowboy hat. Get ready to yee-haw, holler, and maybe even two-step your way through a rootin’-tootin’ day of western-style fun!
On Friday, we also welcome another Early Years morning. We look forward to welcoming all with preschool children to the gym for activities and fellowship.
May God strengthen and bless us in the week ahead.

Kindergarten
We had a great week in Kindergarten. The students have picked up right where we left off in December. They have really enjoyed our new Math unit, learning about shapes, solids and equal parts. We heard about Moses and the 10 plagues in Bible, ask your child if they can tell you any of them. We learned about the letter “n” in Language. The children are very excited that we are beginning to start reading some words. Next Wednesday, we will be going skating. Please let us know if you are able to join us. Also, a reminder to send your child in appropriate winter gear. Extra gloves are a good idea. KA will be participating in Western Day with the school on Thursday, Jan 23. We can’t wait to see all the cowboys and cowgirls! That’s it for this week. Have a great weekend. MV/DV
Grade 1
We are counting down to 100 day in grade one! Wow, time just flies when we’re having fun. In Bible we heard how the LORD showed his mighty power by crumbling down the walls of Jericho. We have begun to add and subtract with double digits in math class. This is a new skill for the students. In reading class the children worked hard on their work sheets and story reading. Hula hoops kept us running and hoops rolling. It was a lot of fun in phys.ed. Ask us about our mitten and penguin art. Our halls are filled with beautiful creations.
Grade 2
We had a fun… yet cold week at school this week! This is just a little reminder to double-check that your child has all their snow gear with them so they can stay warm and be bundled up at recess time. This week we continued learning about Nunavut in Social Studies. We learned about the Arctic Tundra and permafrost! The students also enjoyed learning about the animals that live in the Arctic as well. We are wrapping up our unit in CKLA, and we’re looking forward to starting our new reader next week! Have a great weekend! MB & BV
Grade 3
Hello again!
Another busy week has passed. We finished our church history with a test. Check your child’s agenda for the results. Well done, grade three! We now move on to Bible stories dealing with Joseph and how the Lord will use him for His glory. We also started a new unit in social studies dealing with communities. What is a community? Ask your child all about it. That’s it for now. Have a blessed weekend.
See your child’s agenda for the spelling words.

Grade 4
Students have settled well into regular routines once again and we are getting a good amount of work done. Grade 4A will have a Church History test on Wednesday as well as a geometry math test on Friday. In French, we are very busy with clothing, weather and now possessive adjectives. This is all in preparation for a detailed weather presentation each student will be making. It is a fairly quiet week coming up but we do have one special event. Next Thursday, we will be having a dress-up day with a Western theme. So dust off those cowboy hats and boots!
4A Devos: Levi (M), John Paul (T), Eden (W), Landon (Th), Quinn (F)

We are wrapping up a number of different things next week. 5A is wrapping up Chapter 6 in math, and will have a test on Wednesday. 5B is finishing Chapter 4 in math, and will have a test either Tuesday or Thursday. Chapter 5, “2-Digit Divisors,” continues and extends the concepts learned in the previous chapter. Both classes hope to finish Theme 3 for World of Literature, after which we will begin another novel study! Both classes will be writing a Bible test for the last half of Unit 3 on Friday. We look forward to seeing lots of Western costumes on Thursday!

Grade 6A
The students enjoyed their turn on Mt. Calvin even though there was hardly any snow. We are starting another novel study next week, namely, Underground to Canada. In French the students are learning the French names for various items in the classroom, the numbers 70-100, prepositions, and some more verbs. In Church History we turned our attention to the crusades as the Western Church sought to liberate the holy land from the Muslim empire. In Science we began a unit on Electricity. Its proved to be a shocking experience. Have a blessed weekend! CVA MJ
Grade 6B
Grade 6 continued to work diligently this week. In Social Studies, we’ve wrapped up our unit on Canada’s relationship with the United States – the students have been asked to keep their eyes on the news as changes in our trade relationships will be negotiated over the next couple of months. On Monday the students will be quizzed on their knowledge of Islam and its origins – definitely a topic that captured their interest and is very relevant to what is going on in our world today. In the coming weeks we will continue to look at the effect this religion had on the Christian churches and the clashes that follow, keeping in mind God’s provision for His people throughout history. Tuesday the students will be given a science quiz on lesson 1-4 of their electricity unit. Have a wonderful weekend!

January 23 – Western Day
Grade 7A
Our main focus next week continues to be the Science Fair preparations. We’re finishing out tri-fold display paragraphs and reviewing the rubrics to be used. We’ve added the finishing touches to our LA graphic novels and we’ll bind them next. Soon we’ll transition back to Bible History and to the reign of King David; God’s promises always come true! We’re discovering that basketball skills are tough to master but we won’t put up with any B.E.E.F.(Balance, Eyes, Elbow, Follow Through). Enjoy your weekend.
Grade 7B
This week was a busy one for grade seven. The students have continued to work hard on their graphic novel assignments and are very close to completion. The students also persevered through some challenging geometry terms in math class this week. Next Tuesday, there will be a quiz in french class on avoir expressions. Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend!
Grade 8
This week turned out to be a busy one, as we concluded several units across different subjects. We finished our Church History unit on the Reformation in Scotland and have moved into the ministry of Christ, starting with a focus on the Sermon on the Mount. In History/Geography, we completed our respective chapters and will be switching classes starting next week.
Next week will also be a busy one, with several extracurricular activities taking place. On Tuesday, Mr. Tomlin from Guido will visit in the morning to talk about what students can expect as they transition to Grade 9. On Wednesday, Grade 8 will go skating from 12:15 to 2:15 PM. During the first hour, Grade 8 students will assist Kindergarten, and during the second hour, we will have the ice to ourselves. On Thursday, we have our next spirit day, “Western Day.” As we approach the end of January, the Science Fair will be a major focus, with projects being set up on February 4. Please ask your child(ren) how their project is progressing. Students should also be sharing their work with you for review and advice.
Enjoy your weekend!
