“Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.” Job 28:28
This Chronicle arrives on the very last day of January, 2025. It’s amazing how quickly time flies. As we look ahead to February, we’re thinking about hiring and hope to do so in the next few weeks. Please pray for the HR committee as they put in extra hours to meet the school’s needs for the upcoming year. We also pray for the teacher candidates as they enter the world of interviews and decisions.
This coming week, we’ll celebrate two birthdays. Mrs. Simone Oosterhoff will celebrate her birthday on Monday, and Mrs. Visser will celebrate hers on Friday. It’s a nice way to start and wrap up the week.
This week is Science Fair week. The grade 7 and 8 students, and teachers, have been busy with this project. We thank all those who have volunteered to judge. It’s a great learning experience in project management, science, and presentation. You are welcome to our Open House, which is from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 6, 2025.
I believe that’s all for the week. May God strengthen and bless us in the coming week

Kindergarten
It was a short and quick week in Kindergarten. We enjoyed our time in the gym on Wednesday, playing with the scooters! We continued to learn more about our teen numbers in Math. These numbers seem to be fairly tricky, any extra review at home would be very helpful. We learned about the letter “f” this week and made a beautiful Flamingo art. We sent home the February calendar, be sure to take note of any special days coming up. As always, a reminder to pack extra gloves and socks as the weather has been a little more wet. We hope you have a wonderful weekend! MV/DV
Grade 1
After a long weekend, the children began their short week with skating. The children enjoyed their skating outing this past Wednesday. A big thank you to the parents who came out to join us. The grade 7 students were a tremendous help to their younger brothers and sisters again. Thank you, Mrs. Stieva, for driving the bus to and fro. We continue to stand in awe of how the Lord uses weak and sinful people to bring about His perfect plan. Ask us about Samson. We have begun a measurement unit in math. The children continue to enjoy the stories about Gran, Jen, and Josh in our reader. Only eight more days until 100 day!! We are getting very excited for this day.
Grade 2
We enjoyed a nice short week this week. In Bible we are finishing up our unit on Jesus’ death and resurrection. We plan to start another Church History unit when we are finished. In Language Arts, we have started a new unit called “The Job Hunt”. The students have enjoyed reading the stories so far, and we’ve had lots of conversations about the subway and New York City, where the story takes place. We are also finishing up our Social Studies unit on Nunavut and will begin looking at Zimbabwe next! Have a great weekend and a blessed Sunday! MB & BV
Grade 3
That was a short week! Welcome back!
We hope to finish our Bible unit dealing with Joseph soon. Please check your child’s agenda for the date of the test.
In our Social Studies unit, we continue to explore urban and rural communities. Just a reminder that students take the time to practice their spelling words. They are posted in your child’s agenda and on Google Classroom for grade 3A.
That’s it for now. Have a blessed weekend.

Grade 6A
This week the students have written their first journal entry for the novel study. They are using the facts from the story and writing it as if they are experiencing what Julilly went through. The challenge is to write it as if they are a slave talking and showing how she felt with what is happening to her. In church history we have finished our study of the crusades and will switch to Bible history, continuing our study of Isaac and Jacob. Next week they will use their computer time to plan out the hockey jersey they need to design for the upcoming Flag Day activities. Have a blessed weekend, CVA MJ
Grade 6B
Well, it’s been a short but interesting week here in Grade 6. After enjoying two days away from their regular work, the students returned on Wednesday under Mrs. Maria Deboer’s tutelage and then spent Thursday with Mrs. Van Egmond (myself). They began a new Social Studies unit on Explorers which they seem quite excited about and in church history learned about the Great Schism of 1054, which saw the church branching off in two separate directions, The Latin Western Church and the Greek Eastern Church – ask your children how the two differed. If all goes well we hope to go back to our proper scheduling next week. Enjoy the weekend!

As we head into the first week of February, our thoughts and efforts are very much focused on next week’s Science Fair. Be sure to check in with your child as to their preparedness for the event. Students are asked to bring their projects et al to work on Wednesday morning. They will be interviewed during the afternoon with their displays being evaluated in the evening; please note that the students do not need to be at work Wednesday evening. The Open House will take place Thursday evening from 7:30 – 8:30, after which they may take their projects home. Also on schedule for next week is a new math chapter covering integers, a return to Bible history and the reign of King David. Enjoy your weekend.
Grade 7B
Grade 7 enjoyed the short week while still remaining extremely productive. The science fair projects are almost finished; we’re excited to see the final products on Tuesday! The students have been busy working with poetry and are currently practicing their dramatization skills by memorizing and reciting poems. In history, we are finishing up the chapter about the 7 years war in North America, with a quiz happening likely on Thursday. Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend!
Grade 8
