Here it is:
“Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.” Job 28:28
The flurries haven’t just been happening outside; we’ve seen a flurry of activity in school as well. The drama production, Annie, is in its final stages of preparation; we’re in the midst of basketball season; we have chess club happening; we had a geography challenge, on top of the regular education that takes place. It is remarkable that God gives gifts and talents in so many different areas. “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” James 1:17
We congratulate the winners of the Geography Challenge! In grades 4-6, Corban placed third, Liam G. placed second, and Cason placed first. For the grades 7-8 challenge, we congratulate Leena for third place, Jakob for second place, and Austin for first place. The day was an enjoyable opportunity to stretch our brains as we marvel at the world God has placed us in.
We are welcoming three pre-service teachers to our school this week. Miss Claire DeVries has been in the school for the past week with Miss. Oosterhoff is already getting acquainted with the class during this final induction practicum. We look forward to seeing a lot more of her next year. Miss Makayla Otten will be joining Mrs. Kelly in grade 5 and Miss Alana Otten will be joining Mrs. Tesfaye in grade 8. We welcome them to JCCS and hope that their stay is full of many good memories and learning experiences. So if you see them in the hallways, please welcome them.
Finally, the Annie production is in full swing. If you have not purchased your tickets yet, I would suggest you do, as they will become scarce very soon.
I believe that is all for the week. May God bless and uphold us in the coming week!

Kindergarten
It was good to be back at school after an extra long snowy weekend, we enjoyed hearing all the stories about sledding, snow forts and visits with cousins and friends. On Wednesday, we had a delicious soup and buns lunch; thank you ladies auxiliary. We also had lots of fun skating at the arena. We were amazed at how well all the kids did on the ice; thanks to all the parents and grade 8 class who came to help. Next week our Bible stories will be about Gideon and Samson. We are excited to start reading our new pet fun books; kindergarten has been working hard at sounding out and reading our cvc words. We are participating in the ‘toonies for anchor’ fundraiser. Please check your agendas for the little envelopes and return by March 6th. Have a great weekend. DV/MV
Grade 1
The long awaited, and twice moved 100 day has finally taken place! Our classrooms were abuzz with activities such as building a tower from 100 solo cups or counting out chocolate chips, jelly beans, and other small snacks to make a goody bag of 100 items. We enjoyed oodles of noodles for lunch! We extend a huge thank you to all the moms who assisted in making our day memorable! Amidst all that fun, we also enjoyed a few regular school days too. We learned about the Israelite people longing for a king, we studied spelling patterns of the long vowel ‘e’, and we finished another unit in our language arts curriculum. Next week we will begin a unit about fables. Have a great weekend!
Grade 2
We hope everyone had an enjoyable Family Day weekend. This week, we finished our stories about Preacher John, and next week we hope to start learning about Polycarp in Church History. In math, we have started with double-digit addition with regrouping. Please keep practicing math facts at home; it will make the daily work a lot easier if the students are able to answer the math facts quickly. Please make sure students have hats, mitts, and snow pants in their bags for recess time! Have a great weekend. MB&BV
Grade 3
Grade 3B welcomed a student teacher, Miss C. DeVries, into the classroom this week. We look forward to having her continue to teach us over the next few weeks. Both classes have wrapped up the math unit about division and will be moving on to financial literacy. In social studies, we are nearing the end of our studies around living and working in Ontario. This coming Wednesday, we will have the opportunity to go on a field trip in connection with this unit. We look forward to going to Summit Station Dairy, where we hope to see what life is like for those that live in this part of a rural community. Please make sure everyone dresses for cold weather; we will be outdoors for most of the tour. We will be eating lunch away from school so please pack accordingly.
Have a look in your child’s agenda for the spelling words for the week.
Memory Work: Psalm 108: 1; Joshua 24: 15
Grade 4
And just like that another week comes to an end. We crammed a lot into this shorter week! Thanks to the Ladies Auxiliary for our delicious soup lunch on Wednesday. It was enjoyed by all! We spent Thursday participating in the Geography Challenge, either as finalists or spectators. Although none of the grade 4 students moved on to compete in the Grade 7-8 final, we are proud of their efforts – well done! Today, the students get to enjoy the dress rehearsal of Annie Jr. Looking ahead to next week, we have a “normal” schedule on the horizon. Please note the Medieval Day information sheet that children brought home on Wednesday afternoon, and take note of the shift and food you’ve been signed up for. We are looking forward to our special theme day on March 21!

A shorter week with a lot of different things happening. Thanks to the ladies who provided and served the soup. It was much enjoyed by all. We have been practicing the songs for the Easter concert. The students are learning the words as well as the tunes and are doing very well. On Thursday we enjoyed the Geography Challenge. Stay tuned for the results! Have a blessed weekend, CVA MJ
Grade 6B
We completed another wintry week here in 6B. The students had extra time to slide down Mt. Calvin and build forts in the snow during their outside PE class on Tuesday. We continued to work on our spring concerts songs – keep practicing at home! – and began to plot out our stories that we will write in Language Arts. Thursday brought the much anticipated schoolwide Geography Challenge with Liam G. and Denver representing our class well. Liam G. placed 2nd in the Gr 4-6 round and was able to compete against the Gr 7 & 8ers where he held his own, very well. Next week comes with a couple of tests in Bible, Vocab/Spelling and Social Studies, so keep studying grade 6!

Grade 7A
Another eventful week has passed; geography challenges, basketball practices, soup and musicals… never a dull moment in grade seven. Next week we’ll transition into more of a “normal” routine. We’ll bring our science study of solutions and mixtures to a close with a test as well as our unit dealing with pure substances and mixtures. In math we’ll continue working with integers, multiplying and dividing them. We’ve moved on to local climate factors in geography, relief and bodies of water. In Bible history, God’s promises do come true as King David will subdue his enemies and enjoy peace. Enjoy your weekend.
Grade 7B
It was a full, exciting week for grade 7 students. It was wonderful to see different student’s talents shine this week with the geography challenge as well as the play rehearsals. Next week, we’re looking forward to returning back to a regular routine. The students will be working on a project in history class and beginning a new unit in math. Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend!
Grade 8
The “hidden curriculum” was in full swing this week, as we had a number of extra-curricular activities going on. Between full day play practices and dress rehearsals, the Great Canadian Geography Challenge, and skating, we can say that this week was a little bit chaotic. Next week looks to be a little bit more structured, and hopefully we can get somewhere in our actual curriculum. Enjoy your weekend! RT/TB
