General News

What a beautiful week! It is so good for the soul to enjoy the wonderful spring weather, to get outside and see God’s handiwork. The students are thriving at recess as they enjoy our wonderful property to its fullest. As Open House and McNally House fall into the rearview mirror, we anticipate a return to some ‘normal’ weeks. I dare say the last few of the year! Already plans are well underway for final field trips, Play day and so much more! A big thanks for the Ladies Auxiliary who provided us with a cheerful mid-week treat on Wednesday! Thank-you! It was greatly appreciated. As we anticipate a weekend of rest it’s worth mentioning our principal Mr. VanIperen. For several years already he has been busy studying for his masters in education. This month he has begun his final course, a highly intensive month-long sprint to the finish line! As such he is going to be even busier than normal. Please uphold him in prayer and may he receive the strength he needs to complete his studies. As such we also covet your patience and support during this already busy month.

Have a blessed Sunday!

MJ

We have a potentially quiet week on the horizon:

Wednesday – Last day to bring in McNally Hike for Hospice donations

Thursday – Baseball practices continue

Kindergarten

The weeks continue to fly by in Kindergarten. We finished with our teen numbers this week by making some fun paper chains. Next week, we hope to begin skip counting. The children were amazed listening to the story of Daniel in the lion’s den; what a powerful God we have! We were busy working on our Mother’s Day projects this week and we know the children are very excited to give their moms a special gift. On Wednesday, we received a treat from the Ladies Auxiliary! Thank you for the delicious smile cookies. The school plans to have a spirit day on Wednesday, May 21. All the teachers will dress as students and the students will come dressed as a teacher, we look forward to seeing all the little teachers in Kindergarten! Enjoy a beautiful, sunny weekend and Happy Mother’s Day! MV/DV

Grade 1

It was good to have a full week of learning activities and lessons. We very much enjoyed our surprise snack on Wednesday! Thank you to the Ladies Auxiliary for the smile cookies! In our Church History lessons, the students learned about Guido de Bres and his book Confession of Faith. They also began to study Martin Luther. Next week we will wrap up this unit and turn our attention back to the Bible program once more. In Science, we continue to learn about structures. The students enjoyed looking at famous structures of Ontario, and also looking at structures in creation. The students were awed to discover that God created animals with the instincts to build nests, dams, and tunnel systems. In our language arts program, we read about mandrills and learned about verb tenses. Enjoy your weekend!

Grade 2

Good afternoon! We are so thankful for the beautiful sunshine we could have this week! Grade 2 has been learning about habitats in Science in connection with our Investigating Animals unit, and we could spend some time outdoors exploring habitats. We are looking forward to our field trip to Toronto to Ripley’s Aquarium! If you haven’t handed in the chaperone sheet please do so by next Friday. In our Bible/Church History Lessons we continue to study the stories of Paul and his missionary journeys.  Have a good weekend! MB & BV

Grade 3

Here we are again!  It’s grade three!  Open House and McNally Walk were wonderful events.  We thank the Lord for the communion of saints in action.  In our Bible stories we continue to hear of the Israelites on their way to the promised land with the LORD as their faithful guide and shepherd. We hope to have a test on Thursday.  Please take the time to study the notes with your child. Mathematics is all about division.  We continue to practice our multiplication facts too. We are exploring soils and plants.  Ask us about what we are doing. That’s it for now. Have a blessed weekend and Mother’s Day.

In French, the students are putting the final touches on their weather forecast presentations and we look forward to being able to present them soon. Once we are finished with those, we will move on to learning the vocabulary to identify the various members of our family. Grade 4B has received letters from students in a Reformed primary school in the Netherlands who wish to improve their English. We are excited to answer them! Please review Lesson 1 and 2 in their duotangs. 4A will have a science test on Tuesday covering only the lessons on light. A review sheet will be sent home on Monday.

This segues nicely into our next social studies unit as we begin to study the first nations of North America. In French we are busy learning the different rooms of a house. Next week Tuesday we anticipate a field trip to Crawford Lake. Have a blessed weekend! CVA MJ

Grade 6B

This week Grade 6 students continued to learn about the life of John Wycliffe and how the Wycliffe Bible Translators of today are still working diligently to make the Bible available to all people in their “heart” language.  In our social studies unit we are focussing on the Indigenous peoples of the Woodland:  the first citizens of the land we now live on.  We look forward to a trip to Crawford Lake Conservation area to see replicas of the longhouses they once lived in.  Please make sure that the students are dressed for the weather and have a drink and a snack that can easily be taken with.  This trip will include a hike, so please bring water and sunscreen/bug spray as required.  The students will also have a vocabulary, spelling and French test on Thursday so please make sure they remain diligent with their studies.  Enjoy your weekend!

Grade 7A

While the past week was somewhat more subdued in terms of special events and activities, there was still much to do. We welcomed Mr. D. Muis and A. Datema to the class on Monday morning as they told us about the joys and struggles associated with entrepreneurship; we thank them for their insight and encouragement. Our next focus in math will be investing, insurance and identity theft. We’ll wrap up our study of vegetation in physical geography and move on to the next unit dealing with our world’s natural resources; use and sustainability, specifically our needs and wants and the environment. Moving on in science we’ll learn more about energy transfer systems methods, analysis and construction. The Kingdom of Peace and King Solomon will come to an end as we move on to Jean Cauvin in Church History. Enjoy your weekend.

Grade 7B

Grade 7 was back to regular routine this week, working hard on many assignments and quizzes. The students have been powering through grammar rules this week and are looking forward to starting the Hobbit next week in language arts. Our hallway has been filled with the anticipation of the upcoming track and field meet and grade 7 has begun to practice some of the events. Our financial literacy unit in math is still going on, teaching the students about real, adult issues – hopefully this has sparked some discussion at home! Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend!

Grade 8

With another week in the books, we are now just four weeks away from Ottawa! It’s amazing how quickly the year has gone by. Regarding the Ottawa trip, our Krispy Kreme donut fundraiser is underway. So far, we have sold just over 30 boxes. Students have received an order form they can use to help boost these numbers!

In Church History, we are nearing the end of our Reformation in the Netherlands unit and will have a test at the end of the week. In Math, we will participate in the Gauss Math Contest on Wednesday to test our skills against other schools in the province. In Science, students completed their hydraulic systems projects, and we got to see some truly creative builds.

For everything else, we continue with our regular programming. Enjoy your weekend! TB/RT
