“Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.” Job 28:28

Despite the fact that most of us are probably ready for some more sunshine after all the rain this week, we can still praise the Lord for His faithfulness to creation in sending the rain. As Isaiah 55:10 says, “…the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater,…”

We enjoyed a beautiful performance from the junior and senior Guido bands yesterday. Praise God for the gifts and talents He gives!

Our baseball teams will be travelling to Dorchester tomorrow to participate in the baseball tournament. We wish them all the best, and we thank all the coaches involved for all their hard work over the past couple months!
We give thanks along with Mrs. Kingma and her husband that, after a long wait, they were able to welcome a healthy baby boy, Wesley Joe, to their family this week. May the Lord give them all that they need to raise this covenant child in the fear of His name.

We have two birthdays to celebrate this week. We wish Mrs. Vandenoever a happy birthday on Wednesday, and Mrs. Vis on Saturday. We are thankful for both of them and the hard work they do at JCCS, and we pray that God will continue to bless them in the year to come.

On Tuesday, we look forward to hosting the last Early Years Morning for this school year. It sounds like it’ll be an exciting one! All are welcome to join us at 9:30.

On Thursday, we look forward to celebrating Ascension Day with an Ascension/Pentecost assembly. It will start at 1:45, and we will be welcoming Adam Werkman in to speak to us. All are welcome!

May God bless us in the week to come!

Kindergarten

With only 4 weeks left of school, we have been busy with our Math and LA units preparing to wrap things up. The children have done so well over the last few months and we look forward to some fun days ahead. It was a rainy week and we were all feeling it being stuck inside, we’re hoping for some sunnier days next week so we can get outside to practice for the upcoming field day. On Thursday, we got to enjoy the Guido band’s performance and see their many talents. KB was able to do buddy reading with Grade. 7 on Friday, it’s always a highlight of their day! A reminder that Kindergarten will have a home day this coming Wednesday, May 28, due to the new Kindergarten students visiting the school. There will be an Ascension Day assembly on Thursday morning. We hope you have a wonderful weekend! MV/DV

In our Bible studies, we learned about the downfall of Israel as a punishment for their idolatry. On Thursday the students enjoyed the musical presentation of the Guido band. It’s always a highlight of the year! Enjoy your weekend!

Grade 6A

We really enjoyed listening to the Guido band perform for us and share the musical talents that they have been blessed with. We plan to complete the current novel in the coming week and look forward to watching the movie version as well as the sequel, “The Curse of the Viking Grave”. In math we will work with ratios and rates. In Bible History we have worked our way through the ten plagues and will move on now to the institution of the Passover. In social studies we have turned our attention to the Eastern Woodlands First Nations. Have a blessed weekend, CVA MJ

Grade 6B

The students enjoyed listening to the Guido band performance this Thursday!  Perhaps an inspiration for some of them to join up in a few years… After writing church history tests on Monday and French tests on Wednesday, students spent a lot of time reviewing material learned throughout the rest of the subjects. Much of this will be tested next week, so please make sure they remain diligent and study a bit every evening in preparation. Enjoy your weekend!

Next week in church history we’ll learn how John Calvin reformed Christ’s church in Geneva, and then was dismissed. We’ll follow him to Strasburg and then back to Geneva. In math we’ll get practical as we apply taxes, discounts and percent increase/decrease. Geography will have us move from an introduction to natural resources to renewable resources. We look forward to our trip to the Royal Ontario Museum next week Friday, and then a week later the Track and Field Tournament. Enjoy your weekend.

Grade 7B

Grade 7 enjoyed a quiet, short week. We’ve finished chapter 1 and 2 this week of the Hobbit and are looking forward to finishing chapter 3 as well as watching a portion of the movie next week. The students learned about John Calvin’s early life in church history and were challenged in listening to the preface of his book: “The Institutes” (one of the most important books that came out of the Reformation!). The practice and result-collecting for track and field continued this week, and the students are looking forward to an entire afternoon of practice next Monday. Wishing everyone a restful weekend!

Grade 8

While it doesn’t feel like May outside, it definitely feels like May in the classroom. Students (and teachers) are sensing the final stretch to the end of the year. On Thursday, we enjoyed a performance by the Guido Band, which gave the Grade 8 students a glimpse of what may lie ahead for them in the coming years.

Next week, we will be wrapping up our math unit on linear equations, with a test scheduled for Wednesday. Grade 8B will have a geography test on Tuesday as they conclude another unit.

We’re also looking forward to our field trip to the ROM next Friday! It’s a wonderful opportunity to explore more of God’s Creation in a tangible way.

Enjoy your weekend!
