“Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.” Job 28:28

Here we are, heading into the final week of the school year! All the learning, growing, and stretching that happened this year has been under the LORD’s blessing. We praise God for His faithfulness in all the work we were able to do. As I write this Chronicle, the Grade 8 class is heading back into town after a fantastic week in Ottawa—tired, happy, and maybe just a little sunburned. Outside my window, Play Day is in full swing, complete with cheering, races, and enough sunscreen to fill a bathtub. We’re thankful for the sunshine and these joyful moments together.

This coming week will be a busy one! On Monday at 1:00 p.m., you’re invited to come watch the legendary Staff vs. Grade 8 showdown. Under the steady hand and sharp eye of Mr. Roland VanAndel (our esteemed umpire for the day), we expect a game filled with athletic prowess, questionable strategy, and plenty of laughs. We’re grateful to Mr. VanAndel for stepping in with his special style and good sense of humour!

Tuesday will be the annual year- end  trip day for students in grades K–6, who will be adventuring off to Safari Niagara and Wet’n’Wild. Please note: there will be no afternoon bus service. Students in K–6 will return to the school around 4:00 p.m. and an update will be emailed to parents in the afternoon once they’re on the way. If you have a child in grade 7 or 8, you’ll need to pick them up from school at 2:35 p.m., as the buses will not be running in the afternoon. Thank you for your flexibility!

Friday brings a few final milestones. Report cards will be sent home—an incredible amount of thought and work has gone into these documents to reflect your child’s growth this term. We encourage you to sit down and read through it with them (maybe with a celebratory ice cream in hand!). At 11:00 a.m., we’ll gather for our closing assembly in the gym. You are warmly invited to join us as we wrap up the year together. Students will be dismissed after the assembly, around noon.

We also have one special celebration this week: a birthday! Happy birthday to Ms. Stoffels on Friday! We wish her continued blessings in the year ahead—and we hope her students serenade her with all the enthusiasm (and hopefully with not too much pitch variation) they can muster.

Finally, library notices are heading your way! If you find any rogue books hiding under beds, behind couches, or in the depths of a backpack, please return them promptly. Our amazing library team is eager to get everything packed up and ready for September—and they thank you in advance for your detective work.

That’s it for now. May God bless us all with energy, joy, and a strong finish to this school year!

Another week has flown by in Kindergarten, only 2 ½ school days left after today. The much-anticipated field day is finally here.  The weather was perfect for a fun day spent outdoors.  Thank you to Ladies Auxiliary and all the volunteers for providing yummy snacks and lunch today.  On Wednesday we had fun celebrating the summer birthdays and enjoyed a popsicle to cool off outside along with other treats.  Everyone is very excited for our Safari Niagara trip on Tuesday!  Thank you to the many volunteers who are joining us—we appreciate your support.  Please have your child wear a JCCS t-shirt or a similar coloured shirt at the zoo.  The splash pad will be open, so don’t forget to pack a bathing suit and towel for your child. On Sunday we celebrate Father’s Day.  All the students have worked so hard to make a special gift and card for Dad, check their backpacks for it.  Have a wonderful weekend and Happy Fathers Day.  DV/MV

Grade 1

Here we are—just one more week of school! Where has the time gone? We’ve begun our final Bible unit, learning about Esther and how God used her to save the Jews from destruction. In math, our last unit focuses on identifying clue words that help us know whether to add or subtract. The children have been reading stories from our final reading unit, Kate’s Book. We were spoiled by thoughtful parents who baked cupcakes, and by the Ladies Auxiliary who provided a delicious hotdog lunch and fruit during our Field Day. The children had a great time taking part in the Field Day activities. Everyone is now looking forward to our school trip next Tuesday! Wishing you a restful and wonderful weekend.

Grade 2

Another exciting week has flown by! Our countdown activities brought a treat for track and field day, a picnic lunch outside, an extra recess, hat day, and a day in the dark with flashlights and glow stick bracelets. We’re thankful such a fantastic day could be organized for the students today. In Grade 2 we’ve been practicing these track and field activities, and looked forward to it. In our Science classes this week, we continued with our research project to study an endangered animal and learned more about what it looked like, its habitat, predators, and diet. Thank you to Grade 6 for helping us! We are looking forward to one more week with our students! Next Thursday please bring a bag to school to help with taking home school supplies. Have a great weekend! MB & BV

Grade 3

It’s crazy to think that we only have one more week of the school year! The last week will be one filled with many fun activities, as we wrap up our learning and our time together. On Monday afternoon, students look forward to watching the staff – grade 8 baseball game. Wednesday is our year end trip to Safari Niagara (looking forward to seeing all the chaperones, too). Lastly, on Friday, we will have our year end assembly. Many exciting things to look forward to next week! 🙂 With that, we would like to thank all of the parents for their support over the past year, as we worked together with these covenant children.

Grade 4

It’s been a wonderful week of learning and a flurry of activities for the Grade 4 students. We also wish a very happy Father’s Day to all our dedicated and loving fathers. Our field day went smoothly, and we thank the students for all their hard work and team spirit displayed throughout the day.

And now, suddenly, we are looking ahead to the final week of school! It is a fun-packed week which includes our field trip to Wet and Wild on Tuesday. We’ve enjoyed working on our cereal box book reports this week, and we will be making commercials to get people to want to buy our cereal on Monday (if we haven’t started already)! At the time of writing, Play Day has not yet happened, but we are sure it was a fun day! We look forward to our trip to Wet’n’Wild on Tuesday. Don’t forget to wear a JCCS T-shirt! Any parents that are coming will receive a list of their group on Tuesday morning. Please bring a baseball glove for PE again on Thursday.

Grade 6A

With the Play Day on the horizon, one of the most anticipated days of the school year is here! We look forward to spending the day outside in friendly competition. Next week promises to be an absolute blast! Have a restful weekend. Cheers, CVA MJ

Grade 6B

Just one more week to go! The students have been busy wrapping up a number of projects this week. Our booklets on La Famille and our Disease Presentation are now a thing of the past. We are still busy with our Lego Literacy; honing the students skills at creative writing and proper use of punctuation and grammar. Something quite a few of them still struggle with doing consistently. In Bible, we are learning how the Lord gave laws and instructions to guide the Israelites into becoming a nation; His people set apart from the rest of the world.  The students have become quite proficient at adding and subtracting fractions and now they are learning how to multiply and divide fractions. And yes, we will be plugging away at our fraction unit right up until the last day. Grade 6 has been eagerly looking forward to Play Day and the chance to be either a leader or runner for the groups. It was a beautiful day!  Have a wonderful weekend and a blessed Sunday.

This past week was another eventful one… Our class trip to Ft. George, Queenston Heights, Niagara Glen, the Falls was enjoyed by all. We also enjoyed our opportunity to serve others as we volunteered at the JCCS Play Day. In science we created and tested our own energy transfer systems using a tea light to warm water. Our study of natural resources continues in geography including a look at footprints. As we enjoy the low order co-operative game of capture the flag, we’re faced with the dilemma of playing defensively or offensively. Enjoy your weekend.
