General News

“Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” Eph 6:11

We began the year with an assembly that brought the Armour of God to life in the form of a story—a conversation between a farmer and his son about this passage in Ephesians. We encourage you to take some time to discuss this passage with your children.

With the start of the school year also comes our chocolate bar fundraiser. Students in grades 4–8 may bring chocolate bar boxes home. Please do your part to help us raise funds for year-end trips. Ideally, each family contributes so that the responsibility of fundraising is shared fairly. For every box sold, students receive the reward of a free chocolate bar. There will also be prizes for the top individual seller, as well as for the class that sells the most. Go JCCS!

Soccer practices are underway. This year, we will be sending boys’, girls’, and mixed teams to the tournament on September 27. Thank you to the volunteers who are giving their time to coach our school teams. These extracurricular activities provide meaningful opportunities for students. If you are interested in volunteering to coach or co-coach some of our other sports events, you can sign up here.

The Transportation Committee would like to remind families that parking along the south driveway (between the church and Huizinga’s house) for drop-off and pick-up is unsafe for our bus drivers entering and exiting the lot. Students have been running across the driveway without looking for buses, and there have been several close calls where bus drivers needed to stop suddenly. We ask that all parents use the north and west parking lots for student pick-up and drop-off.

Gym clothing orders are being processed and will be ready soon. Some families have asked about the retirement of the old JCCS shorts and shirts. We plan to phase them out by the summer of 2026.

On the topic of dress code, please review this with your children to help us avoid awkward conversations. Bike shorts, short shorts, and leggings are not permitted as school attire. The full dress code can be found here.

On Wednesday morning, we plan to hold bus safety drills for all students—even those who do not regularly ride the bus. Since every student uses the buses for field trips, all should be familiar with the safety routines.

That’s all for next week.

Kindergarten

We finished our first week of school! It was a great week filled with learning routines, meeting new friends, making crafts, and lots of fun at recess.  They all did a wonderful job and made a great start!  In our Bible stories, the students heard about the Creation Story and learned how powerful God is and all that He created on days 1 through 5.  We’re excited to start our Math and Language Arts units next week! If you haven’t already, please remember to send in a binder and an extra set of clothes.  Have a great weekend.  DV/MV

Grade 1

The first week of school is already complete! We have learned so many new things: sitting properly at a desk, colouring neatly, and reviewing letters and their sounds. In Bible history, we were amazed by God’s wonderful creation—He spoke, and it came to be! We could praise Him for His marvelous works through our first song: “O give thanks and praise the LORD.” In Social Studies, we learned about playground safety, and practiced this outside on the playground. The children are already looking forward to it! Wishing you a blessed weekend, RG/MP

Grade 2

Grade 2 had a busy and exciting week, getting used to their new teachers, classmates and routines. We look forward to spending this next year together, learning and growing in not just knowledge but also in our service to God and his kingdom!

Memory Work: Hymn 19:3

Text: Ephesians 6:11

Grade 3

Greetings and salutations!  Welcome back to JCCS.  We’re so thankful that the Lord guided and protected us this summer.  May the Lord continue to bless us as we begin another year in His service.

In our Bible classes, we will be hearing stories from Genesis.  We hear how the Lord made His covenant with Adam and Eve and with us!

Social Studies is all about the pioneers and communities in Canada.  Stay tuned for our up and coming pioneer dress up and field trip day.

Just a reminder to bring in the school forms and headphones.

Thank you!

Memory Work:

Hymn 63:4

Text:  Ephesians 6:11 (two weeks)

See your child’s agenda for spelling words.

Grade 4

Welcome back everyone! It’s been a busy but great first week here in Grade 4 as we adjust to new students and teachers, new routines and new expectations. Just a reminder that with the warm weather, students should have a water bottle, especially on the days they have PE. Please have your child’s belongings labelled. Spelling words will be listed in your child’s agenda each week. Chocolate bar sales will be in full swing. We encourage you to participate in this fundraiser as it helps support all class trips. Speaking of class trips, we will send a notice home about our first trip to the plowing match. Have a wonderful weekend.

Grade 5

Just like that, one week of school is complete! The students are quickly getting used to the new routines and expectations, and we’ve enjoyed our time with them so far!  In Bible class, we are starting with the time between the OT and NT, and we will work our way through the gospels from there. This fits nicely with our unit about Ancient Rome in social studies, since the Romans were in power when Jesus was on Earth.
Student-led devotions will begin next week. We have written prayers in class, or at least gotten a start on them. Parents, please look over the page and help your child choose a text and finish their prayer if needed. Then, please sign it before the day of their turn. If necessary, they should practice reading their chosen Bible passage at home.
For next week, the schedule is:

5A – Leah (M), Megan (Tu), Jasper (W), Gabriel (Th), Autumn (F)
5B – Sawyer (M), Shawn (Tu), Shepherd (W), Taryn (Th), Elias (F)
Have a wonderful weekend! CDV/KV

Grade 6

How blessed we were to start another school year together. Our week has gone by quickly. It may seem that we didn’t accomplish much, but I’m sure that the students will attest to the fact that we did in fact do many different things. We have made a start to our various units. We also took some time to prepare for upcoming lunch devotions. We look forward to using the talents and gifts that the LORD has given us to complete our work to His glory and honour. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any cares or concerns. You can always leave a comment in the agenda or drop us an email. Have a blessed weekend, CVA/MJ/BK

Grade 7A

With much thankfulness we could return to our daily work. Echoing the prayer of Moses in Psalm 90, we were sure to ask the LORD to establish the work of our hands to His praise. The students have settled into routines and procedures smoothly. It was an interesting few days as students and teacher “figured eachother out”. We’ve begun learning about rivers, structures, Ndw France and short stories. Be sure to ask your child what’s new! Enjoy your weekend.

Grade 7B

It has been a great week in 7B! The students and teacher alike are getting into the swing of things, and settling into our new routines. We’ve begun to study 1 Samuel, seeing how God remained faithful to His people in those dark times. The math lessons have dealt with familiar topics and we hope to continue building our number sense with these lessons. Next week, the students will be learning vocab lessons that they are required to know by the end of week. The first memory work test is also due on Friday. Students are made aware of when it’s their turn to lead lunch devotions. We ask that parents read over the prayer and initial the prayer sheet. Have a great weekend! RK

Grade 8

And we’re off!

Summer flew by, and it’s wonderful to see the hustle and bustle of a brand-new school year. Grade 8 has already hit the ground running with a French quiz completed and soccer tryouts underway!

Next week, we’ll be settling into the regular rhythm of the year. Highlights include a math quiz towards the end of the week, continued soccer tryouts, and bus evacuation drills on Wednesday.

Wishing you a great weekend! TB/RT
