“Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” Eph 6:11
It has been a very pleasant second week of the school year. With the beautiful weather, soccer and cross-country practices, and chocolate bar sales stacking up, we have much to be thankful for in these first weeks. I’m sure we’ll also enjoy the wafting scents of peanut butter throughout the school as well!
The gym shorts and shirts have been ordered and should arrive in the next few weeks. Until then, we will continue to show some grace with the uniform protocol.
Library begins Monday, September 15! Please remember to bring your library bags on your class’s scheduled day so our books stay in great shape. A reminder to parents: if your child has a missing library book, a $10 replacement fee applies (you will have received an email if this concerns you). And don’t forget to bring in your summer reading challenge BINGO pages! 🙂
Adding to the excitement of the week is the Plowing Match. The small hamlet of Grassie will be bustling with visitors from near and far. As part of the education program, students will attend for a day of learning and celebrating our agricultural roots. I’m sure your children have already shared the schedule with you! What is especially unique this year is that the Plowing Match is so close to our community. We look forward to learning and celebrating agriculture together. These activities will take the place of our Theme Week, which we usually hold in October.
As we have done for many years already, JCCS continues to collect mission money every week in support of several organizations. Currently, through CRWRF, we sponsor 2 families in the Busia region of Kenya. For more details, please visit https://crwrf.ca/projects/busia/. We are also sponsoring a child, Sherline P., in India through Word and Deed. We have just received a letter from her in which she shares that recently she has finished 10th grade and received baptism! We thank you for your support through the faithful contributions we receive every week and please pray that work done by CRWRF and Word and Deed may be blessed.
That’s all for next week.

Classroom News
Kindergarten
We had another busy week in kindergarten and are getting used to the routines in our classroom. In Bible class we finished learning about the days of creation, and we were amazed at everything God created. Next week will be learning about Cain and Abel and Noah. We enjoyed our time in the gym playing games with both classes and learning how to use Ipads. On Wednesday we practiced bus safety drills, thank you to all our bus drivers for showing us how to stay safe in an emergency. Picture day is on Monday for KA and Tuesday for KB. We are looking forward to our trip to the Plowing Match on Wednesday, September 17. Please remember to return the “All About Me” papers back to the school. Have a great weekend and Blessed Sunday! Grade 1
We’ve just wrapped up our second week of school, and the students are continuing to do a wonderful job settling into our routines—even though coming every day is still something new for many of them.
In Bible, we heard the stories of the Flood, God’s rainbow promise, and the Tower of Babel. In social studies, we learned about bus safety, and on Wednesday the students had the chance to practise this during evacuation drills led by our very capable bus drivers.
We’re also looking forward to our trip to the International Plowing Match next week. Thank you to the parents who have volunteered to join us—it looks like it will be a very fun day!
Grade 2
Grade 2 has had a busy and productive week. In Bible History, we are learning about the birth of Jesus and his work here on earth and even wrote our first test! We are enjoying the stories about “The Cat Bandit” in our CKLA unit – ask your children what he has stolen so far! Next week Friday, we are going to the International Plowing Match – should be very exciting for the students! Also, a reminder that Picture Day is on Monday.
Memory Work: Psalm 119:40 (due Sept 19)
Text: New Testament Books (due Sept 26)
Grade 3
Hello again! Or should we say “Bonjour?!” It is so good to be in school and seeing the children getting comfortable with some of the routines. Being ready in the morning, listening to directions, sitting respectfully during devotions and Bible stories, and listening to others are some of the routines we are busy with. In Bible, we could hear about the first murder, the LORD’s disappointment in His creation, and His wonderful grace and mercy as He made a covenant with Noah and his family. On Tuesday, we will have our first Bible test. The notes from our unit will go home on Monday and students are encouraged to read through them for review at home. On Friday, we look forward to attending the International Plowing Match. Parents who hope to come along should have been contacted by the classroom teacher. We are really looking forward to this event! Grade 3A’s spelling words can be found in their agenda.
Memory work: Ps. 17:3; Text: The books of the Old Testament
Monday: Picture Day
Tuesday: Bible test
Thursday: Library: bring library bag
Friday: Plowing Match Field Trip
Grade 4
It’s hard to believe that we are already done the second week of school! The students are settling into routines and expectations. Thank you so much to both parents and students for the selling of chocolate bars. Keep up the great work. There are still a few boxes in the office that need to be sold. Both classes have begun the first science unit on Rocks and Minerals. The unit began with an introductory experiment on the formation of crystals. Next week we eagerly look forward to going to the plowing match on Wednesday. If you would like to come along with Grade 4, please email either teacher.
Memory work: Psalm 66:1; Text: Psalm 32: 1-2 (due September 19). Have a great weekend. JB/FR
Grade 5
The second week of school has flown by! We look forward to a number of exciting things next week including picture day on Monday, as well as the Plowing Match on Thursday. For further details regarding the Plowing Match please see the email that was sent out a few days ago. Just a reminder that if you would like to join our class for this special day, you are welcome to purchase your own ticket and please inform us that you are coming. Our Bible stories this week have focused on the birth of John the Baptist as well as the birth of Christ which has tied nicely into our Social Studies lessons on the Roman republic and religion. We look forward to seeing more connections made between the two classes in the coming weeks! The start of student-led devotions has been wonderful. A reminder to parents to please look over the devotions sheet that has been sent home with your child and to sign it before the day of their turn.
Devotions for this week are as follows:
5A – Avalon (M), Levi (Tu), John Paul (W), Eden (F)
5B – Phoenix (M), Hailey (Tu), Macy (W), Kenzie (F)
Have a blessed weekend! CDV/KV
Grade 6A/B
With the 2nd week behind us, we continue to settle into our daily routines. In Church History, students have been learning about the development of the early Christian church, the rise of the invading Huns, and the rise of the pope as leader of the church. In science, students have completed activities that introduced them to the Engineering Process, and from here, we will be ‘gliding’ right into Flight! Our Phys. Ed. classes will be heading outside in the next week, so please be sure to bring proper footwear! The students have made a good start with setting up their notebooks properly. Great job learning the meanings, spelling, and usage of the first twelve vocabulary words. Keep up the effort! Next Wednesday we look forward to enjoying a day at the Plowing Match.

Grade 7A
So far in math this year we have addressed exponents, square roots, scientific notation and order of operations. Chapter one continues with number sense as we look to a test midweek. Our new science chapter, “Strength, Forces and Efficiency”, began with super strength straws. Be sure to ask your child how much their framework cost them. Next week in Bible history we will learn that even though the LORD has shown mercy to His covenantal people by providing a leader/judge in Samuel, the people of Israel will want to be like all the other nations and make a specific request… Enjoy your weekend.
Grade 7B
Have a great week!
Grade 8
The first full week of school is in the books, and the big wheels are in motion! It’s been a busy start: students have already completed their first math and French quizzes, our soccer teams are underway, and cross-country practices have begun.
Looking ahead, next week will be just as full:
Monday – Picture Day
Tuesday – Language Arts comprehension quiz
Wednesday – Field trip to the Plowing Match (thank you to all who volunteered to chaperone). Please remember that students will need to bring a non-microwavable lunch for the day.
That, along with our regular programming, should keep us busy!
Wishing you all a great weekend,
