General News
The soccer tournament is around the corner. Here is the schedule. Games will be played at both JCCS and Southward Park, with the bulk of the games being held there. We look forward to you being there to cheer on our Defenders. You can even pick up lunch there as the grade 8 class is fundraising for the Ottawa Tournament.
This past week grade 7 went to the Wainfleet Beach in connection with their geography unit on weather and grade 1 explored the apple orchard at Mountainview Orchards. We also saw a well attended Early Years Morning. We thank our dedicated crew for putting this event together. It is nice to see the young families join us and get acquainted.
The final countdown is on! We have a sweet 16 boxes of chocolate left. Grades 4-8 parents: please encourage your child(ren) to sell one or two more boxes and we’ll be done! These sales are crucial as they help pay for the end-of-year trips! We covered the costs completely last year; let’s crush that goal again!
This coming week we welcome Armanj and Dan Younis. They hail from Iraq and their family has been sponsored to come to Canada by the Spring Creek congregation. Armanj and Dan, we hope you soon feel at home in the JCCS community!
On Monday, Mrs. Gansekoele will be celebrating her birthday. We wish her God’s continued blessings in the upcoming year. Later in the week, on Friday, Miss Schipper will be married. We wish her God’s blessings as she enters into married life.
Finally, I will be heading out to the National Principals Conference in Muskoka on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. We will be learning from Dr. Justin Irving about Healthy Leadership for Thriving Schools based on his latest book which you can find here.
Wishing you all a blessed week

Kindergarten
Another week flew by in Kindergarten! Wednesday was an exciting and busy day. We had our first visit to the library, the students were very pleased they got to pick 3 books to take home for the week. We had our first fire drill as well and the children did such a great job following their teachers instructions, well done! Next up, we headed off to Mountainview Orchard where the children got to pick their own apple and learn the process of getting the apple ready for the store. Thank you to the Feenstras for having us and to our parent volunteers. We have begun our Science unit on our Five Senses, the children were eager to learn about a new subject. Don’t forget to send in a toonie or a craft supply for our Fall Fest theme basket. We hope you have a wonderful weekend. MV/DV
Grade 1
Oh, the exciting things that happen in grade one! We finished last week with a very educational and fun trip to the plowing match. And then today we could go to the Safety Village to consolidate our learning about fire safety and road safety. This trip is always enjoyed by all… especially the part where they get to ride little pedal vehicles all through a miniature village complete with road signs, stop signs, and a railroad crossing. We’ve been working diligently on reviewing the letters and sounds of the alphabet, and are looking forward to beginning our core language arts program next week! In our Bible classes this week, we learned about God’s faithfulness and care to Abraham in saving Lot, in giving a son, and also in providing a sacrificial ram. How thankful we can be that while God spared Isaac, he did not spare his only Son!
Grade 2
It’s been another busy and productive week here in Grade 2. Both classes have finished up the first chapter in their math books and are moving on to addition and subtraction. We are also finishing the first CKLA unit in language arts – our stories about the cat bandit are coming to an end. From the sounds of things, the students really enjoyed reading about his antics and adventures! Looking ahead to next week, the only “extra” on the calendar is the start of the fall food drive in support of Community Care.
Memory Work: Hy 15:1 (due Oct. 3)
Text: Names of the Apostles (due Oct. 10)
Grade 3
Our upcoming week will lead us into the month of October and we are looking forward to our trip on the very first day of the new month. Yes, on Wednesday, October 1 we hope to go to Westfield Heritage Village to experience life as an early settler. Stay tuned for pictures of all of us as we step back in time! A member from the FallFest committee stopped by our class this week and got us excited for the upcoming event. Another exciting thing is that we have the opportunity to help out by collecting items for a themed basket. Grade 3’s theme is baking basket so we encourage everyone to bring in some items that would be great for baking. You could also donate $2 and the FallFest ladies will pick up some things. These items are due on Friday, October 3.
Memory Work: Hymn 53:2; Genesis 3: 15 (due Oct. 10) *We would like to encourage parents to spend time singing with your children at home.
3A: Spelling words will be in the agendas
Grade 4
Both classes have been very diligent selling chocolate bars and are in the top 5 of all of the classes participating in the chocolate bar sales. Let’s finish strong, Grade 4! Science continues to be an exciting subject as this week the students each made a fossil and spent some time extracting the object they wanted to be fossilized. Ask your child about the process! The school will be participating in food drive for the West Lincoln Community Care. Grade 4 is responsible for the tallying of all of the items. For every 50 items donated, the entire school earns an extra 1 minute of recess. Let’s see how many items we can donate. Don’t forget to bring in something for the fall fest baskets. Grade 4 is doing the birthday basket.
Memory Work: Hymn 13: 1,2; Text: 1 Samuel 15: 22 (due on Oct. 3)

Grade 5
Another busy week has passed, and we have accomplished many things. The students have been working hard and are continuing to grow in their independence. Next week, 5A will be having a social studies quiz on Wednesday. Both classes will learn about the Roman army and how they fought in the Punic Wars against Carthage after that. 5A will have a Unit 1 Bible test on Wednesday. 5B will continue learning about Jesus’ early ministry and the calling of His disciples. Cross country practices are still happening three times a week, and the students are building up their endurance in anticipation of the meet in October! Please remember to bring in Fall Fest basket items or a toonie for our movie night basket by Friday!
Devotions for next week are as follows:
5A: Julia (M), Hailey (Tu), Reid (W), Avery (Th), Lily (F)

Grade 6
This year grade six students are involved in 2 main service tasks for our school. The first is looking after the recycling for the school. 6A will continue doing this until the end of January when 6B will continue. The other way we help is by setting up and cleaning up for the early years event in the gym. The students enjoy helping out with these activities and learn a lot about working together efficiently. We look forward to regularly serving our school in these tasks this year. Next week students can expect a church history quiz on Tuesday. This will cover the first three major characters we have studied: Leo I, Gregory the Great and Charlamagne. Have a blessed weekend! BK, CVA, and MJ
6A Devotion Schedule: Waverly, Micah, Aiden, Emma
6B Devotion Schedule: Kingston, Lia, Claire, Emmett
Grade 7A
On Wednesday we had the opportunity to put into practice what we recently learned in physical geography, when we went to Wainfleet Public Beach and created our own watersheds. Our next chapter will focus on landform patterns. In math we will wrap up number theory and work with GCF and LCM. We will bring our science chapter to close next week dealing with strength, forces and efficiency. We’ll design and do, with an investigation where students will need to build a stable table. Enjoy your weekend.
Grade 7B
We have been learning about Samuel and Saul as Israel’s king. We are nearing the end of the unit and are expecting to write a test near the end of the week. We have moved into chapter 2 in our math textbook and are working with prime numbers and factorization. Students are catching on quickly, having worked with the concept in previous grades. Have a great week! RK
Grade 8
We wish our soccer teams the best of luck as they compete in the tournament tomorrow! A big thank you to everyone helping with the soccer concession stand for our Ottawa trip fundraiser, and a special thanks to the parents who organized it.
Our Grade 8 students are realizing how quickly the year moves along. After completing Math, Bible, and French tests this week, they can expect the following next week:
Science Test – Wednesday
History Test – Thursday (8B) / Friday (8A)
Geography Test – Thursday (8A) / Friday (8B)
Students are encouraged to bring their materials home and review a little each day to stay on top of their work.
Enjoy your weekend!
