“Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” Eph 6:11

Congratulations to our soccer teams for a job well done last Saturday. The boys’ and girls’ teams won all three of their regular games and advanced to semifinals, but unfortunately both teams stopped there. This year we were also able to field a co-ed team in the tournament. They also enjoyed their tournament, going 1-2. Thank you to our coaches: Mr. Witten, Mrs. Rozema, Miss VanderLaan, and Mrs. Vis. This tournament also allowed the grade 8s to fundraise a significant amount of money for their Ottawa trip!

This past week grade 3 stepped back in time, travelling to Westfield Heritage Village for their annual Pioneer day field trip. It was a beautiful day filled with all the traditional cuteness that comes with their costumes for the day.

We are happy to report that all boxes of chocolate are out of the office! Thank you, parents, for allowing and supporting your children in selling them. Each box helps to fund our field trips, a much loved aspect of regular school life. Please ensure that the rest of the money comes in as soon as possible so that we can completely wrap up this campaign.

Fall Food Drive is headed into its last week. The bins have been filling up and the thermometer continues to rise!

On Monday afternoon, the Dethans will be coming to present to us on their work in Indonesia. The assembly will begin at 1 p.m. You’re welcome to join us!

On Tuesday, Mrs. Jonker will be celebrating her birthday. We wish her God’s continued blessings in the upcoming year.

Wednesday is Hot Dog Day! Thank you to the Ladies’ Auxiliary for providing these treats for the students (and staff 🙂).

Next week Thursday is the Golden Horseshoes Cross Country Run for grades 5-8 at Southward Park. This is put on by NACE, the Niagara Area Christian Elementary schools. The students will be gone from school from 9:00-2:15.

On Friday, the grades 7/8 students will be running another cross country race at Dundas Valley, this time with the other students from our League schools. They will be gone from 8:50-2:30.

Also on Friday, we will be having a Thanksgiving assembly, starting at 1:45. Scott Dekorte from Word and Deed will be speaking to the students about this organization’s important work that they are doing around the world. All are welcome.

Heads up: October 22 is Wacky Hair Day!

Wishing you all a blessed weekend,

MJ/KV

Classroom News

Kindergarten

It was a very productive week in Kindergarten!  In math we are starting a new unit learning about patterns; students are learning how to recognize, complete, and extend a variety of patterns.  In Language arts the students continue to learn all of the different lines needed to write letters as well as how words are made of different sounds!  They are so excited to separate words into parts and then put them back together to make compound words.  In Bible, we will be hearing more stories about Isaac and how God continues to keep his promises to Abraham’s family.  On Wednesday, the ladies auxiliary will be treating us to hotdogs for lunch.  We have a field trip coming up on Wednesday Oct. 22 to Bry-Anne Farms.  Let your teacher know if you would like to join us for this fun trip.  Have a great weekend.  DV/MV

Grade 1

There’s been a buzz of excitement in grade 1 as we’ve launched into the CKLA program! The children are learning to tap out sounds, blend them together, and—most exciting of all—READ words! Their eyes lit up with pride and amazement when they realized they could read a word on their own. It’s such a wonderful and joyful time in their learning journey. Your child has brought home a ring with their number and “tricky words” (sight words) on it. Please take a few minutes each evening to review these words together and return the ring the next day. We’ll be adding new words regularly, so it’s important to keep these cards organized and coming back to school each day. Thank you for your continued support. In Math, we’ve begun exploring shapes, open and closed shapes, and are reviewing patterns. The children are enjoying this hands-on learning!  In Bible history, we focused on how Isaac and Rebekah received twin sons, Jacob and Esau. We also explored the story of how Rebekah and Jacob deceived Isaac so that Jacob could receive the blessing. We learned that Jacob had to learn to trust God, who had already chosen him to receive the blessing—even before he was born. This reminds us that God’s plans are always in place, and we can trust Him fully, even when we don’t understand how everything will unfold.

Grade 2

Wow, just like that the first month of school is over! We have been very busy in Grade 2 learning about solids and liquids in Science, painting and cutting for Art, and starting our second Math unit. This week again, we enjoyed practising our theme song whenever we have a spare minute. Remember to check your child’s agenda to know what spelling words and memory work needs to be memorized for each Friday. Please continue to bring in your non-perishable food items for the food drive, we would love to see the bins overflowing! Have a great weekend and a blessed Sunday!

Grade 3

Another busy week has passed.

Mrs. Henrietta Buikema visited us on Tuesday and gave us a lively presentation on many pioneer artifacts.  We thank her for her time and gift of telling us stories about the way the pioneers lived.

On Wednesday, we travelled back in time.  We visited Westfield Heritage Village!

What a day to remember!  Thank you, parents for dressing up your children as classic pioneers!  The lunches were very creative too!  Nicely done, girls and boys!

We thank Mrs. LeeAnna VanIperen for driving us safely to and fro. And to Mrs. Heather Werkman for assisting us.  Please check the JCCS Instagram for pictures!

In Church History we continue to hear about the missionary, John Eliot.  Ask your child how the Lord used him to gather His church among the Indigenous Peoples in North America.

Have a blessed weekend.

Psalm 19:1

Text: Genesis 3:15

See your child’s agenda for spelling words for grade 3A.

Grade 4

We’ve already completed our first month of Grade 4 and are enjoying the beautiful sights and sounds of autumn! In Bible class, we’re learning about King David and his incredible journey of faith. In Science, we’re wrapping up our unit on rocks and minerals, and in Math, we’ve just begun a new unit on Addition. We’re especially excited for our upcoming field trip to Rock Point this Wednesday! Students will be guided through the park and will learn about the various types of rocks found in the area. In the afternoon, students are welcome to take a dip in Lake Erie (weather permitting) or explore the shoreline. We’ll be enjoying a hot dog lunch together in the park—please make sure your child is well-prepared for the day with weather-appropriate clothing, swimwear (if they’d like to swim), and any other essentials. Looking ahead to Friday afternoon, Grade 4 will be leading our Thanksgiving Assembly. We’re also excited to welcome Mr. Scott DeKorte for a special presentation. Families are warmly invited to join us at 1:45 p.m. in the gymnasium for this celebration. Thank you for your continued support, and have a great weekend!

Let’s go Blue Jays!

Grade 5

Our fifth week of school has come and gone and once again we have been very busy in Grade 5! It is evident that fall is here with the chilly mornings but we have been blessed with beautiful, sunny weather. Looking forward to this coming week, 5A will be starting their second Bible unit on the Ministry of Jesus and will begin learning about the Roman army and how they fought in the Punic Wars against Carthage. 5B will be having their Unit 1 Bible Test on Tuesday (Oct. 7) and may be beginning their Social Studies projects next week. Parents, look for a paper with more details in your child’s agenda. Some of the students will be running in the Golden Horseshoe XC meet this coming Thursday; we wish them all the best!
Devotions for next week are as follows:
5A: Leah (M), Megan (Tu), Jasper (W), Gabriel (Th), Autumn (F)

5B: Taryn (M), Elias (Tu), Phoenix (W), Hailey (Th), Macy (F)

Enjoy your weekend! CDV/KV

Grade 6

This week we stepped into the second month of the school year. October brings harvest, cool mornings and misty fields. This month has several exciting activities coming up. Including a Paper Airplane Contest as well as a field trip to Latitude Air on Oct. 17th. Stay tuned for more details. This week we welcomed a new classmate, Armandj, welcome! Together with his family they have been welcomed by the Spring Creek congregation all the way from Iraq! It’s our prayer that you quickly find yourself at home here. Students are reminded to bring in a nonperishable item for the food drive and also something for the theme basket for Fall Fest. Next week some students will go on the cross country run on Thursday. They are responsible for the work that they miss in class. Have a blessed weekend! CVA, BK, MJ

Grade 7A

We’ve moved on to fractions and decimals in math and have reacquainted ourselves with improper and equivalent fractions, reciprocals and complex fractions. We met Mr. R VanWinkle this past week and learned how a writer can advance the plot of a story by comparing what stays the same and contrasting it with what is changeable. In science students will identify the forces that will act on an object and then try to figure out the most efficient way to build the object so that it can withstand those forces. Enjoy your weekend.

Grade 7B

We have completed the first section of our Bible lessons, and will begin learning about King David. Students have a good grasp of the factors and multiples and will be using these concepts as they work with fractions in the coming weeks. Students are reminded that the French crossword puzzle is due on Tuesday, but there will be no more class time given to work on it. Samuel de Champlain’s eulogies are being written and revised. I encourage students to rehearse their speech at home, and to think of creative props to bring to their presentation. Many students will be attending the cross-country meets next week; the students remaining at school can look forward to exciting opportunities to serve others. Have a great week! RK

Grade 8

What a week it has been—History tests, Geography tests, Math quizzes,
and Science tests! Congratulations to our students on making it
through such a busy week.

Looking ahead, next week should bring a lighter load of tests and
quizzes, but more extra-curricular activities. Our cross-country teams
will be competing on Thursday at the Golden Horseshoe run and on
Friday at the Dundas run. In Phys. Ed., students will be teaching
low-order cooperative games to their peers. It’s always enjoyable to
watch students take on the role of teacher and see who naturally steps
up as leaders.

With those activities and our regular classes, it should be a full and
enjoyable week.
Enjoy your weekend!
