The school was full of excitement twice this week!
Our first highlight was Mystery Readers. Between 10:30 and 12:00, all 102 reading slots were filled. Every 15 minutes, a new reader, kept a secret until they arrived, shared a story. Parents, grandparents, firefighters, police officers, and many others joined in to make this event so special.
Next came Book Character Day. While it has become a beloved tradition, it was enjoyed just as much this year. Students showed off some clever and creative outfits, and the school spirit was wonderful to see.
The lobby tree is now full of colourful leaves, a visible sign of all the reading that has happened this month. Thank you to everyone who participated in Reading Month and a special thank you to our organizers, Miss Oosterhoff, Mrs. Poort, Mrs. Stel, and Mrs. Tesfaye.
Today, our volleyball teams head to Guido for the Tripleball tournament. We appreciate the dedication of our coaches, Mrs. Werkman, Mrs. Jonker, and Mrs. Bos, and look forward to hearing about the teams’ performances.
Looking ahead to hockey season, permission slips have already been sent home and should be returned before the skates hit the ice. Tryouts will take place on Friday after school.
We also celebrate a few birthdays this week. I will mark mine on the 3rd, followed by Miss DeVries on the 4th, and Miss Broersma on the 6th. May God continue to bless each of us in the year ahead.
Finally, the lost and found has been on display for the past few weeks. It will all be going to West Lincoln Community Care on Friday December 5th. Please stop by if you haven’t to see if any of it is yours.
That is all for this week.
God bless.

Another month is done, we can’t believe it’s already December next week. We are proud of all the reading the children did for our reading month. We had fun dressing up for book character day, everyone looked great. In LA, the students are continuing to learn new letters each week. They are having fun blending and being able to read short CVC words. Our new “mystery bag” show and tell has been a hit, great job coming up with your clues! Next week, we will hear about Gabriel’s message for Mary and the birth of John the baptist. With the colder weather, the children have been getting a lot of practice getting themselves ready for recess. Keep practicing those zippers at home. It looks like it’s going to be a snowy weekend, we hope you enjoy it! Have a blessed Sunday. MV/DV
Grade 1
Reading Week wrapped up with two wonderful activities. On Thursday, students enjoyed our character dress-up day, and Tuesday’s Mystery Readers were a big hit. We welcomed a mom who is a nurse, a dad who serves as a police officer, the local fire chief, a grandmother, a mom, and an aunt who is also one of our bus drivers! Thank you to everyone who helped make this week special.
Beginning next week, students will be tested weekly on reading their assigned tricky words. These words will be glued into the agendas along with the memory work papers.
In Bible, we have returned to the stories of the Israelites in Egypt. The class learned about Moses, his calling, and his early appearances before Pharaoh.
In Science, we are finishing our unit on life systems and will soon be shifting our focus back to Social Studies.
Grade 2
In Bible Studies we are finishing another section in our unit about Jesus’ Ministries where we have been hearing a lot of His parables, and learning about the miracles He did. We will be switching over to working on our first Church History unit which is about the Worship Service.
This past month has been filled with fun reading opportunities and dressup or reading surprises. We are thankful to all the people who came out to read to us on Tuesday! It was fun to see Grade 2 dressed up on Thursday! We had everything from pirates, lego people, princesses, caterpillars, piggies, and fairies to Thing 1 & Thing 2! 🙂
Please remember to send along some dry socks, or even a change of clothing as the cold/wet weather is around the corner.
That’s all for this week; have a blessed weekend!
Grade 3
November ended with a flurry of activities and excitement! Thank you for your wonderful participation on Thursday for book character day! The school was alive with characters from a variety of genres of books. We also enjoyed the many mystery readers who entertained us on Tuesday. Thank you!!! Let’s continue to read, grade three, even though book month has passed. We are coming to the end of our church history unit of Church Life. Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church and we are the members of His Body. We’re thankful that we can all work together to serve our God and our neighbours. Please check your child’s agenda for the spelling words.
Memory Work: Hymn 20: 1,4
Text: Proverbs 3: 9,10
Grade 4
It was a busy week in Grade 4. We had mystery readers on Tuesday. Thank you to all of the volunteers who came in to read to us. We absolutely loved all the reading. On Wednesday we went skating. Thanks to all of the parents and grandparents who came with us skating and helped tie shoes. On Thursday we had Book Character day! We had Heather from Green Ember, Spiderman, Harry Potter and Pinkalicious. What a treat to be able to see all the students dressed up. Both classes have started a social studies project on a province of Canada. The students have loved learning more about their assigned provinces and territories. We also have started working on writing a memoir about our lives. On Friday we enjoyed the snow! Hope you have a great weekend.

Grade 5
What a wonderful Reading Month! We thoroughly enjoyed the mystery readers that came in on Tuesday, as well as the Book Character Day on Thursday. Thank you to all those who read books to us, as well as the organizers of Reading Month!
Both classes will be having a French quiz next week Thursday on pages 13-16 of the review package. 5B will be having a Unit 2 Bible test on Tuesday, and then both classes will be on Unit 3, where we’ll continue learning about Jesus’ ministry, including a number of parables. 5A will be starting Chapter 4 in math, which is about 1-digit divisors. 5B is still working through Chapter 3, and the students are doing very well with multiplication. We also look forward to skating on Wednesday from 1:15-2:15. We would love to have parents to help tie skates and come skate with us. Students must wear helmets if they are playing hockey. Those who are not playing hockey are strongly encouraged to wear them.
Devotions for next week are: for 5A – Reid (M), Avery (Tu), Lily (W), Leah (Th), Megan (F); and for 5B – Shawn (M), Shepherd (Tu), Taryn (W), Elias (Th), and Phoenix (F).
Have a blessed weekend! CDV/KV
Grade 6
We are off to the warplane museum today! This was the anticipated highlight for the week. It was nice to have a full week in class this past week. In Phys. Ed we have begun our Volleyball unit. In Social studies we have started our trading partners project. This weekend marks the end of November…already! Have a blessed weekend. CVA BK MJ
Grade 7A
What a wonderful connection we recognized this past week! In catechism class, many students are learning about God the Father and our Creation and His Fatherly hand through Providence. This was made evident as we studied global climate factors and saw the Father’s hand in wind, air masses and ocean currents. We’ll move next on to local climate factors, elevation, relief and bodies of water. We started a new unit in science and attempted to baffle our skin; is our skin a good thermometer? Why does five degrees celsius seem mild in winter and colder in spring? We’ll wrap up plane geometry in math with circles and the area and perimeter of irregular shapes. All in all it was a good month and we thank the LORD for the work we could do. Enjoy your weekend.
Grade 7B
It was nice to see you all at the parent-teacher conferences last week! In Church History, we continued to learn about the Lord’s work of reformation through Martin Luther, and this will continue into the next few weeks. Students are recognizing the relationships between angles, and applying this to their study of geometry. In L.A. class, students are finishing their speeches about themselves and will present on Monday (Liam, Lincoln, Sawyer, Corban, Ezra, Brooklynn, John, Logan, Kaylin, Quinn) and Tuesday (Laren, Rob, Cason, Seth, Nadia, Amryn, Emma, Jonathan, Evan, Allison). They should be practicing at home in order to become comfortable, and to find the appropriate pace and volume. Please have a listen and provide feedback (hint: “Louder, please!”) 😉 Encourage them to add details to their speech if you find they do not explain themselves well. In French class, they will write a short quiz on Tuesday. Have a great week! RK
Grade 8
This has been a busy week as we wrap up chapters and complete tests in both History and Geography. In Math, 8A has transitioned into Geometry, while 8B is working on a coding unit. In Bible, we are studying the early part of Christ’s ministry, and students can expect a test sometime the week of Dec 8th. We are also focusing on professional writing, as we are working on writing a five-paragraph essay on the Sixth Commandment, using Thomas Watson’s The Ten Commandments as our guide. Our Tom Sawyer novel study is now more than halfway finished, and students are already excited about the culminating ceiling-tile project. It’s full speed ahead as we move toward Christmas break.
Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend,
RT & TB
