“Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” Eph 6:11
The first week of December is in the books. It was chilly. We know this because we stood in it during Wednesday’s fire drill. The “crisp” air made the evacuation memorable, but the re-entry was the real highlight. Never have we seen students so eager to get back to class. We are pleased to report the drill process is now automatic, efficient, and ideally, not to be repeated until March.
The Defender Tripleball teams did very well. Both the boys and coed teams made it to the semi-finals, while the girls made it all the way to the semifinals. Congratulations on the good sportsmanship, teams. We have now moved on to hockey. The seasons change and so do the sports!
Our Early Years Team will be hosting another morning on Monday. The doors will open at 9:30, we look forward to seeing you there.
A highlight this week will be our Pizza day which falls on Wednesday. No need to pack that lunch, just snacks, which will be a highlight for students and staff alike!
This is all for the week. May God continue to grant blessings!

Classroom News
Kindergarten
It’s a new month, and the cooler weather has certainly arrived! It’s great to see how independently the students are dressing for the chilly temperatures. It was a quieter week filled with our regular classroom routines. We wrapped up our science unit on seasons and weather, and the students continue to enjoy the Bible stories leading up to the birth of Jesus. After a week of review in language arts, everyone is excited to begin learning 2 new letters next week. Looking ahead, we have a pizza lunch on Wednesday, December 10th and we also have another skating day scheduled for December 17th. Have a great weekend and blessed Sunday. DV/MV
Grade 1
This week was a wonderful and productive time of learning for our students. In Bible, we saw the LORD’s mighty power as we explored the ten plagues in Egypt and His miraculous provision of a dry path through the Red Sea for His people. In math, we have begun our unit on financial literacy. The children are enjoying hands-on practice with coins. In language arts, we continue to enjoy reading stories from our first reader, and the students are growing in confidence each day. We are looking forward to a yummy pizza lunch next Wednesday, D.V.
Grade 2
We’ve had a good start to December in grade 2! We’ve paused the Bible stories about Jesus’ life on earth for the time being and have begun learning about the worship service as part of our church history unit. There is a worksheet that is going home today – please have your child fill it out this Sunday and bring it back to school on Monday so that we can discuss it together.
Many thanks to all those who came out to help us with skating on Wednesday – the students get such a big smile on their faces when they see a familiar face! There will be a pizza lunch served next week Wednesday – hooray for easy lunches! That’s all for another week. Wishing you a restful weekend and a blessed Sunday. MB/LS/BS
Grade 3
” For you, O Lord, have made me glad by your work;
at the works of your hands I sing for joy.” Psalm 92: 4
Indeed, the Lord’s works are marvellous: the blessing of safety, homes, families, and our Christian school. We stand in awe at His goodness towards us again this week, as we anticipate the coming Christmas holidays where we can celebrate the birth of our Saviour. Together, we rejoice with those who rejoice, just as we heard about in our Church History unit on the communion of saints. Looking ahead to Bible History, we are ready to hear stories about Jacob and Esau. In penmanship, students continue to work on learning the letters in cursive. Reminders are sometimes needed so that our regular printing should also stay nice and neat. Math classes have introduced multiplication, repeated addition, and equal groups. Practice these new facts at home, as we learn them! See the agendas for spelling words. Memory work: Psalm 72: 1; Proverbs 3: 9, 10
Grade 4
We have had a lot of fun in Grade 4 over the last few weeks in math, learning about symmetry, polygons, rays, geometric shapes, segments, and many more exciting terms! We will be wrapping up this unit this week and beginning a new unit on multiplication and division. Any extra practice at home on multiplication facts at this time will be greatly appreciated by both your child and their teacher .
In Church History, we have been learning that we belong to a household of faith. In connection with this, we look forward to welcoming Rev. den Hollander as a guest speaker on Wednesday. He will share about his time at the Theological College and his life as a minister.
In Social Studies, we continue our study of Canada and all it has to offer. The students are working hard on their projects, and we are excited to see what they learn and display through their brochures or Google Slides!
In Art, we look forward to applying what we learned in math by exploring symmetry in nature.
Lastly, we wish Miss Jes a fantastic birthday on Saturday! Thank you, Miss Jes, for all the energy and hard work you bring to Grade 4.
Grade 5
The countdown to Christmas holidays is on and we have been busy in grade five! We enjoyed skating this past Wednesday; some played a good game of hockey and some enjoyed a leisurely skate around the rink. Looking forward to the coming week, 5A will be working towards a mid-unit 3 test in Bible towards the end of the week, or into the beginning of the next week. Both classes have loved diving into Call it Courage and look forward to finishing the book next week and beginning a special project of designing new book covers for the book. We are eagerly anticipating a delicious pizza lunch on Wednesday, so thank you to the Ladies Auxiliary for arranging this special treat for us!
Devotions for next week are as follows:
5A: Jasper (M), Gabe (Tu), Autumn (W), Avalon (Th), Levi (F)
5B: Hailey (M), Macy (Tu), Kenzie (W), Brynlee (Th), Quinn (F)
Wishing you all a blessed Sunday! CDV/KV
Grade 6
Last week grade 6 was able to enjoy a wonderful day at the Warplane Heritage museum. Several planes came with fascinating stories of the war that captured our imagination and awe. The students have been busy this week completing all the necessary items for a few different projects. Some students will be ready to put their bird display together next week. As we wrap up our week we wish to encourage students to make a renewed effort to study their memory work. Effort has been falling the last few weeks. Have a blessed weekend! CVA BK MJ
Grade 7A
We’ll carry on with our mastery of public speaking in language arts as we’ll learn the difference between listening and hearing as well as working with gestures. We brought our study of plane geometry to a close in math. Some students enjoyed this different type of math, working with area, perimeter, circles and polygons. We’ll stay positive as we study integers next. In church history we’ll learn of Martin Luther’s reaction to the papal bull. In physical geography we’ll learn about adaptation and mitigation as it applies to climate change; as well we’ll hear what Dr. Beisner has to say about the Christian’s reaction to climate change. Enjoy your weekend.
Grade 7B
This past week, students have become much more comfortable speaking in front of the class! Thanks for helping your child practice at home last weekend! They have finished presenting the speeches about themselves, and have begun impromptu speaking about an unknown topic. We have gone through two rounds of these “Table Topics” and they are learning how to think on their feet. Next week, we will continue to work on the skills needed to listen and present effectively, including body language and using hand gestures. We will finish up the geometry unit in math early in the week and will move on to integers, a unit which should take us to the Christmas holidays! Have a great week! RK
Grade 8
Time marches on as we complete another week in Grade 8! With only two more weeks until Christmas, we will be working to wrap up a number of units before the break.
Next Wednesday, students will have a Bible test on the beginning ministry of Christ, covering the period from John the Baptist to the calling of Jesus’ first disciples. We are also nearing the end of our Tom Sawyer novel study, which means our ceiling tile project will begin next week. In addition, students will have a history quiz as we conclude our look at how British Columbia, Prince Edward Island, and the Northwestern Territories became part of Canada.
The next couple of weeks will be full, but we look forward to finishing the year well.
Enjoy your weekend!
