General News

“Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” Eph 6:11

And just like that, we are heading into the last week of school for 2025. It is usually at this time of year that we pause to reflect on what the LORD has provided. Each of us has our own story; we learn that God shapes us in different ways; sometimes through sorrow, and sometimes through joy. Yet, through the promise of redemption and eternal life, we look back on a year of blessing as the year of our LORD 2025 comes to an end.

On Thursday, the Ladies Auxiliary treated us to a wonderful pizza lunch. It was a delicious meal complete with a drink, a sour key, and chocolate bars (even some with nuts!). Wow! We felt truly spoiled. Thank you again for your diligence and support in granting us a nice warm lunch!

The staff would also like to thank the Board for the wonderful lunch provided for us today. We are very appreciative of the work the Board does, and we are grateful to see that appreciation reciprocated. It was a delicious treat!

We have some highlights for the final week of 2025. You are all warmly invited to the Christmas Assembly on Friday at 11:00 AM. The Grade 5/6 classes, along with Rev. Jagt, will lead this assembly. We will also be handing out numerous awards for the Remembrance Day Poster, Poetry, and Essay contests.

Please note that the assembly coincides with an early dismissal; we hope to wave off the buses at noon.

We have a number of birthdays to celebrate this week! Mrs. McKenzie (formerly Schipper) celebrates on Sunday, followed by Mr. Breukelman on Thursday, and Mr. Kampen rounds out the week on Saturday. We wish them all the LORD’s continued blessings in the coming year and give thanks for the blessing they have been to our school.

That wraps things up for the week. May God grant His blessing.

Kindergarten

This week ended up being shorter than expected with a snow day. We hope the children weren’t too disappointed to miss school! We enjoyed a yummy pizza lunch and treats from the Ladies Auxiliary, thank you for still making this happen. In Bible, we continue to hear about the amazing birth of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. The children are getting more comfortable with their letters and reading some simple words, it’s very exciting for everyone. Next Wednesday, we will be heading to the arena again for skating at 1:15. We would love to have the extra help with getting them ready to skate so join us if you are able. Only one week left until Christmas break, a reminder that there is an assembly on Friday and early dismissal that day. We hope you have a wonderful weekend! MV/DV

Grade 1

Grade 1 had a full and exciting week! In Bible, the Israelites faced their first battle against the Amalekites and learned once again to trust in God alone. We also read about God giving His people the Ten Commandments—rules for thankful living.

In math, the students have been tackling the challenging skill of counting coins. They are working hard and showing great perseverance. In language arts, we wrapped up our unit *Snap Shots* and continued our weekly testing of the tricky words.

Next week, we look forward to a cozy, wintery mini-unit inspired by Jan Brett’s “The Mitten”. The unexpected snow day on Wednesday brought delight to many and perhaps also a bit of extra rest to fight off the bugs going around.

A special thank-you to the Ladies Auxiliary for providing a delicious pizza lunch complete with treats. What a fun week we had!

Grade 2

We’ve had a fun week at school this past week, with the added bonus of the snow day at home on Wednesday. We have started our Social Studies unit about Iqaluit, Nunavut. So far the students have really enjoyed looking at maps of Ontario and of Canada, and talking about our own community. In Church History studies we have finished our learning about the worship service and the sacraments for now.              We were quite happy in our classes that the ‘Pizza Day’ got bumped to Thursday so we could still enjoy that! 🙂 Thanks, Ladies Auxiliary!    Have a great weekend and a blessed Sunday!

Grade 3

We look forward to our Christmas holidays, where we can celebrate the coming of our King. Before the holidays, we will continue to hear stories about Jacob, and how the Lord blessed him and his family. This is all part of God’s plan of salvation for His people and the coming of Jesus through this line! We continue to work on multiplication facts. We encourage students to practice at home to increase fact fluency. Grade 3B will have a Science quiz on Monday. Notes were sent home on Friday to study.

Memory Work: Psalm 103: 1

See agenda for spelling words.

Grade 4

Only one more week of school in 2025 – wow, time sure does fly when you’re having fun! It has been a huge blessing to be part of your children’s lives as teachers this year. We pray for the Lord’s continued guidance as we wrap up 2025 and prepare for 2026. Speaking of wrapping, on Wednesday we look forward to wrapping up our Canada unit with a Travel and Tourism Show from 1:15–2:15 p.m.Families are warmly invited to stop in and say hello! Students are welcome to dress up as something from their province or territory if they wish.  On Thursday, Grade 4Bwill be wrapping small gifts for one another as part of a simple gift exchange. In Math, we will be getting our heads “wrapped” around multiplication and division once again. A short daily review of math facts over the Christmas break would be a great way to keep skills sharp. In Church History, we look forward to learning more about the famous reformer John Hus and his lasting influence on the church. We will also be completing some fish art and trying our hand at a bit of Christmas-themed art as we finish out the week.

And that’s a wrap for Grade 4 this week!

Grade 5

Thank you very much to the Ladies’ Auxiliary for our delicious pizza lunch on Thursday! We’re thankful that we got to enjoy a snow day on Wednesday and still have pizza the next day. In our last school week of 2025 (!), 5A has a science test about properties of and changes in matter on Thursday, and 5B has one on Tuesday. 5B will also be having a mid-Unit 3 Bible test on Thursday. We’re hoping to wrap up our novel study on Call it Courage next week as well.
Parents, please remember to check that, when your child has devotions, the paper is completed and the child is ready for their turn. Thank you!

Devotions for next week are: for 5A: John Paul (M), Eden (Tu), Jackson (W), Quinn (Th); and for 5B: Landon (M), Gabriel (Tu), Veda (W), Ivan (Th).

Have a wonderful weekend! CDV/KV

Grade 6

As we inch closer to Christmas, we have a wide variety of assessments and projects going on in Grade 6. We hope to wrap up our Bird project, our trading partners project as well as some art lessons prior to the Christmas break. However, it still was a welcome break to have a snow day this past week. Have a blessed weekend! CVA BK MJ

Grade 7A

Next week we’ll try to stay positive as we encounter negatives in math. In geography we’ll listen to Dr. Calvin Beisner, the founder and national spokesman of the, “Cornwall Alliance for the Stewardship of Creation”, as he discusses the history and worldviews surrounding climate change, and how we as Christians should think about this topic. In church history we’ll wrap up our study of the Reformation and Martin Luther by examining why we’re not Lutherans and how Dr. Luther can be compared to a “rough woodsman”. Continuing our look at the principles of art, pattern and rhythm, we’ll finish our tessellations.  Enjoy your weekend.

Grade 7B

We are hoping to complete the Church History unit on Martin Luther before the break.  Due to the review taking longer than expected, as well as a snow day, we have not yet started to learn about integers. We hope to have a few lessons before the Christmas break, and will continue with the unit in January. Our art projects are coming along well! We are learning about harmony, unity, and contrast as we create tessellations, which we should have completed before the break. Have a good week! RK

Grade 8

It has been an eventful week in Grade 8 as we wrapped up a couple of units with tests, completed our poinsettia fundraiser, and even enjoyed a snow day! A big thank you to those who supported our poinsettia fundraiser! We raised close to $1500 for our Ottawa trip. Next week is our final week of 2025—where does the time go?

We will be finishing a few more units, so students can expect a couple of tests and project wrap-ups. The biggest excitement comes from our ceiling tile project, which we are painting to complete our novel study of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Students will also have a Geography test at the end of the week.

One more week to go before Christmas Break! Stay strong, Grade 8! TB/RT
