“Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” Eph. 6:11
Next week, our Grade 8 class heads off to Ottawa! This trip definitely signals the approach of the school year’s end. You can sense the students’ eager anticipation for this adventure, as well as their preparation for the next step in Grade 9. The bus will leave before the crack of dawn with excited campers and chaperones, capably driven by Mr. Mans!
Meanwhile, students in Grades K–6 are gearing up for Play Day next week Friday, June 12. To ensure everyone stays safe and energized, especially if it is sunny and hot, please remember to apply sunscreen to your child(ren) before school, send along one or two labelled water bottles, and include a salty snack for the day. Our Grade 7 students will be assisting teachers at the events. Everyone is looking forward to the cupcakes at snack and the hot dog lunch, which will once again be generously provided by the Ladies’ Auxiliary. Parents, coffee will also be available at first recess. Thank you very much in advance, ladies, for this special treat! You are cordially invited to attend, and the full schedule can be found elsewhere in the Chronicle.
As we wrap up the year, please note that our library schedule has come to an end. If you have outstanding books at home, please return them to the school promptly so our librarians can return them to their rightful spots. Additionally, we have officially finished collecting mission money for the year. Please do not send any further funds, as we are wrapping up those files.
We have also locked in the final pieces of our staffing puzzle for the upcoming school year. Michaella VanAmerongen will be returning to partner-teach in Grade 6 with Mrs. deBoer, while taking on a few subjects in Grade 7 as well. Mr. Joosse will join Grade 7 to co-teach alongside Mrs. Kelly. Furthermore, Mrs. Stieva and Mrs. Huizinga have been hired to share the Kindergarten TA position, assisting the teachers in that important role. For those wondering about Mrs. Visser, she remains with us but will now be working as an EA. We welcome our new and returning staff, and wish them God’s blessings as they take on these roles.
I believe that is all, may God grant you all a restful weekend.

Kindergarten
On Wednesday, we spent the day outside at Happy Rolphs and the splash pad. It was a beautiful day, we did a fun scavenger hunt in the morning and cooled down in the water in the afternoon. Thank you to all the moms who joined us and to Mrs. Apperloo for driving the bus! We are wrapping up our unit on Plants in science. The children have been enjoying learning about all the types of plants and how plants grow. Since we have finished our Kit reader, we found some other short stories for us to read and it has been wonderful to see how far we’ve come since September. Next Wednesday, we will celebrate our summer birthdays. On Friday it will be the long awaited Play Day, we have practiced for many events and it should be a fun day. KA, take note of the day changes on the calendar. A reminder that today was the last day to send in mission money, thank you to everyone who contributed throughout the year! We hope you have a wonderful weekend. MV/DV
Grade 1
This week was filled with fun and learning in Grade 1. In Bible history, we wrapped up our unit on the unfaithful people of Judah with a test and have now begun the exciting stories about Daniel. In reading, the children have been discovering many fascinating details about animals in our reader. They continue to be in awe of the amazing creatures the Lord has made. We have begun to our final reader—it is wonderful to see how far the students have come in their reading this year. Our mapping unit has come to an end, and we look forward to starting our final science unit, which will focus on energy. The children continue to practice their track and field events with great effort and enthusiasm—way to go, grade 1! We are looking forward to putting our practices to use on Play Day next Friday. Wishing you a wonderful weekend.
Grade 2
This week we’ve enjoyed some more countdown activities in grade 2, as we count down to the last day of school! We had a gum day where we got to try different kinds of gum throughout the day. We had a bring-your-stuffy-day, and a crazy sock day! The students are excited to see what next week’s activities will be! We are still making our way through our last reading unit on Sir Gus. We look forward each day to our new study in Bible class on Ephesians. Please make sure to look for any missing books at this time, since we aren’t scheduled for any more library visits. Thanks again to our volunteer librarian! Have a great weekend and a blessed Sunday!
Grade 3
Welcome to JUNE!
Grade three has been enjoying the unit on financial literacy. We hope to move on to fractions and decimals after this unit is completed. We are investigating soils and plants. We thank the Lord for His creation and may we be good stewards of it. This was our last library week to take out books. Just a reminder to bring back all the books by the end of term. Please keep the library bag, as it will be used next year.
Psalm 86:1
Text: Psalm 24:4-6
See your child’s agenda for the spelling words.
Grade 4
The countdown is on! It is hard to believe that we are staring down the final ten days of school. What a blessing it has been to spend so much time together, working, learning, and growing throughout the year. To keep the momentum going, we will be busy in Grade 4 over these final days. Students are currently creating slideshows and brochures about habitats, expanding both their computer skills and media literacy skills. In Language Arts, we will be wrapping up our novel study of Charlotte’s Web. Students have certainly enjoyed following the growing friendships and many intricacies of this timeless classic. In Phys. Ed., we will be focusing on baseball skills. Students are encouraged to bring a baseball glove if they have one. If any families have a junior-sized bat that we could borrow for class activities, it would be greatly appreciated.
Have a blessed weekend!

Grade 5
Thank you so much to everyone for the beautiful bridal shower on Thursday. I (Miss VanderLaan) really enjoyed it and appreciate all the love and support. 5B also enjoyed the chance we had to use our knowledge of pizza toppings and recipes from French class to make pizzas; thank you for all the contributions! Although we are nearing the end of the school year, we are not done with our work yet! The students will be presenting their recipes to the class en français next week. We are enjoying reading our last novel study, Mystery at Cranberry Farm. Once we finish reading it, we will be making some cereal box book reports. Both classes will be having a Lesson 5 church history quiz about the fall of Jerusalem on Thursday. In math, we’ll both be working our way through our financial literacy unit, where we will learn about ways to transfer money, sales tax, and a brief intro to budgeting. Remember to look over Unit 2 in the science textbook with your child before next week. Please remember to return library books soon! Students will not be able to take any more books out this year. We look forward to Play Day on Friday! A reminder to students to dress for the weather and the events of the day and bring sunscreen and lots of water!
Devotions for next week are: 5A – Julia (M), Hailey (Tu), Reid (W), Avery (Th), and 5B – Hailey (M), Macy (Tu), Kenzie (W), Brynlee (Th), Quinn (F). Have a wonderful weekend! CDV/KV
Grade 6A
Two weeks to go! We enjoyed the beautiful weather this week, enjoying the brilliant sunshine and lovely temperatures. Credit to the students as they continue to work hard. After considering the 10 plagues we have now turned our attention to the institution of the first Passover and the eventual exodus out of Egypt. In art the students did a little ‘dumpster diving’ as we started a project building a sculpture from recycled materials. Next week is an exciting one as the school anticipates the annual play day. It will be an especially exciting day for the grade 6 students. They will have an extra responsibility as they will be either a runner or a leader. A great day to work as a team cheering each other on. Have a blessed weekend! CVA MJ
Grade 6B
Bible/Church History: We studied Peter Waldo over the past few weeks, and will turn our attention to other “forerunners” of the Reformation.
Math: Geometry has been challenging us for the past couple weeks, and we look forward to learning about volume and surface area!
L.A.: Lost in the Barrens has officially caught our attention, and students are working hard to complete their “roles” to facilitate meaningful discussions with their peers.
French: Students have been learning about how to plan a trip en francais!
Science/Social Studies: Students have begun group projects to learn about some of the indigenous groups that we can find here in Canada.
Art: Grade 6 is combining our knowledge of art with the task we serve the school all year with: recycling. Students are building sculptures of living creatures using items they’ve repurposed!
Phys. Ed.: As the weather continues to grow warmer, we hope to get outside more and more. Baseball remains our primary focus, but Track and Field events will also play a role.
Enjoy the warm weather this weekend!
Grade 7A
We put the finishing touches on our point of view art; we were on the outside looking in creating a room with mood and personality. Calvin has returned back to the city from which he was banished from; will he return a more patient and even tempered minister? Having made our way through Mirkwood, we’ll stop for a bit at Laketown on our way to the Lonely Mountain. We’ll continue to learn about transferring risk through insurance and it won’t come at a premium. Enjoy your weekend.
Grade 7B
Have a great week!
